It's not really that well hidden considering you have the same usertitle as your old user :p

My least favorite song'd probably be The Funeral Portrait. It has a few good parts but just overall doesn't do much for me. It's usually the skippable one. Come to think of it, When I'm listening to the whole album, I either completely tune out during this one or just basically wait for Patterns in the Ivy to begin.
...And on that note, am I the only one who completely loves Patterns in the Ivy? I have a habit of listening to it on repeat over and over again. Makes me wish I had the Blackwater Park with the bonus tracks, so I could listen to part two. |
I don't think Patterns in the Ivy is THAT great...it's a nice little interlude and a cool intro to the epic beginning of Blackwater Park but in itself it isn't all that creative or interesting.
|
When I first got Blackwater Park I thought Patterns in the ivy, was the most amazing song ever for a few weeks
|
Its a good build up to Blackwater Park. I never play BP withought playing Patterns In The Ivy first.
Also a cool lil song to play on acoustic when it's quiet at night... |
My Opeth ticket just came in. :D I'm extremely excited for the show.
|
That reminds me, I have to check when they will release the tickets for the show in Stockholm...
I love In Mist She Was Standing. It's a great song to play along to, not to mention the lyrics give me chills. I especially like the ending acoustic riff before the outro, some good music.
Indeed, it is one of Opeth's best songs. The last 2-3 minutes after the acoustic break is some of the best, most beautiful music I've ever heard. I know I've mentioned that a lot in here |

Yes we both have :) Hardly ever see people talk about that particular segment. |
How many days now...11 days. Yes.
Wow, Still Life was loads better than I previously thought... |

I apologize for anything disrespectful. I took care of it though. I know who it is and got some Vindication. :p |

I love Patterns In The Ivy, it makes me think of waterfalls for some reason, it's so peaceful. And Patterns In The Ivy Pt. 2 is pretty cool, but not as good as the first. |

Yeah, it's amazing... they never did anything like that again. It's like triumphant, yet sad.... those twin harmonies are just so beautiful. |

It sounds almost like Renaissance, it's a great feel for that song, especially when it's played. :) |

Hey, I just realized who you are ;) One of the other great harmony parts in the song is the whole beginning stretch of instrumentation. It's unlike anything I've heard- classical, very colorful, slightly dark, and heavy at the same time |

I never get sick of any song from that album. |
 Yeah, that comment gave it away. Nice to see you stick around though.

Gave what away? I'm a MX noob, I don't know what you're talking about. :p |
The Fragments avatar gave it away to, since you're the only hardcore fan on here. :D
Some of you may have seen the list of summer festivals on the website... but if not, go check em out. |
I feel like repeating myself. The other day I saw Orchid in stores and did not buy it. I was short on money...I should have, it was the first Opeth album I wanted.
NP - To bid You Farewell |

I apologize to everyone for my rep and all the crap fake posts in here and many other threads on MX. I found out who was on my account and got my revenge. That's all that matters. I don't care if anyone on MX thinks I would be stupid enough to type all that retarded BS that was posted on my main account. The people that know it wasn't me, know my posts and I am greatful to have talked to you about this. You know who you are.

Greetings, Opethians!
Just felt the need to express my admiration for this band because of how much they have influenced me musically. Been playing to some selected riffs and one i've been obsessed with, for quite some time now, is the third riff on Closure. Fvcking badass. I love playing that on an acoustic guitar. But anyway.. With me being a n00b and all i'd like to spark some n00b discussion.. ;} What would everyones' favourite Opeth riffs be? Maybe top 3 or something? Include solos if you like. ..Or you could not reply at all. Then I would be sad. ;{ heh.. But I think it'll be interesting because there's always much love for songs.. but not as much expressed in the detail of certain arrangements and parts. My 3, for the moment, would have to be that aforementioned riff from Closure (~1:07), the end of The Leper Affinity (~8:01 onwards, amazing!) and the acoustic guitar of Serenity Painted Death (~8:06 onwards, the fingerpicking timing breaks my mind). Just brilliant stuff! :chug: |
It's hard to pick favorite riffs, but off the top of my head....
The second main riff in Black Rose Immortal, it goes electric-acoustic-electric with variations on the same riff. The main riff on April Ethereal....jah JAAAAAAAAAH jah JAAAAAAaaaaaah The opening acoustic/electric riff of The Moor. |
Top 3 riffs:
"White face, haggard grin" part of Serenity Painted Death. Possibly the greatest use of a pinched harmonic ever. The intro to Karma. I just really like it for some reason The 2nd riff of White Cluster. It just sounds really evil. |
