Well you didn't mention a fucking price range. Don't give me that shit like you're looking for a good tube amp under $500 USD. Shit he got his Shiva for a little under $1500 with 4x4 cab.

Aes820 02-23-2012 01:12 AM

This is pretty amazing.

That's $600 and is just the head, no cab. So what's your point?

Sad But True 02-23-2012 03:52 PM

It's called common sense.

"Oh hey guys I'm looking at getting a new car, I've been looking at the Ford Mondeo, Focus, Vauxhall Astra, any other suggestions?"

"You should get a Veyron."

And by the prices of the amps I listed I clearly wasn't asking for sub-$500. Seriously everything you say is either boring, stupid or unfunny.

And I bought a Laney TT50H anyway for £440, BOOM.

SugarCoatedSour 02-23-2012 03:58 PM

Hope she lasts, laneys get somewhat farty-sounding.

edit: Although that one isn't their class a, so it should be pretty damn nice.

That's the thing, the GH and VH series are pretty decent, but the TT to me is leaps and bounds ahead. 3 channels, independent EQs, 2 master volumes, shit tons of options and switches AND is the smoothest Laney I've heard.

Left Face Down 02-23-2012 04:01 PM

You were listing stuff that I usually see for $1k give or take a little pending on how beat up they are. Sorry for mentioning something that was a little more. Did I suggest you go buy a brand new Bogner Ecstasy? No... stop making it seems like I offered up something that was horrendously more. Shit, you can't spot yourself another $200 or so for something worth it?

No. I can't.

I don't really have the £440 to buy the Laney but my JMP-1 is no more and I'm recording guitars soon, so I've scrounged and pilfered to get something pretty decent but not bank-breaking.

TBH I don't really dig the over-processed sound of the higher-end amps recently, far too polished for my liking. I want the tone in this from about 5:30 onwards, especially 6:10 onwards.

yeah it's a nice a/b amp, +effects loop is nice. Kind of wish I had one in my amp.

SugarCoatedSour 02-23-2012 04:13 PM

Gotta say, if you had the chance to own a bogner xtc you wouldn't think "oh, that's too polished for me". Same goes for any amp in that range...ofcourse depending on your preferences, if all you wanna do is bash away powerchords you can do that on anything.

Left Face Down 02-23-2012 04:13 PM

If you don't want help SBT, don't fucking ask for it. How about that? At least don't berate some one for actually answering you.

Grats on finding something you like.

Sad But True 02-23-2012 04:25 PM

No one cares LFD.

Of course. I had my "OH EM GEE I WANT A RECTIFIER" stage quite early on, and after that just drifted further and further away from really tight, typical 6L6 sound. Most of what I'm listening to/inspired by recently is more rough round the edges and uses a prett decent amp and then loads of dirt pedals for maximum noise.

Also, I'm kinda looking to make my own sound; every tone I make with a 5150, Mesa or whatever sounds exactly the same and I'm so bored of it. I'd rather have a alright tone that's mine than have a £3000 amp that sounds like everyone else's. Case i point for me would be Reuben's guitar sound, not great by anyone's standards but vertainly recognisable.

Slightly hyperbolic but you get the point.

My point...

I bought my 2x12 cab for like ~300.

My other point...you can go buy a used fender deville for $500.
You can buy this combo for a little over 500 http://www.guitarcenter.com/Egnater-Tweaker-112-15W-1x12-Tube-Guitar-Combo-Amp-105934020-i1515758.gc

Trying to nail some post rock... Any of you guys care to give me feedback on this tone?

The_Mop 03-10-2012 07:18 AM

Not the same track that I mentioned earlier, but on the way to doing a proper Sunday Afternoon cover I made this mixtest:

http://soundcloud.com/vector-monitor/deadhead-mixtest

Sad But True 03-10-2012 12:44 PM

Guitars are far too loud Zeke. I know Dev tends to focus on the guitars in his mixes but the only part of the drums I can hear is the cymbals.

blkdth 03-10-2012 01:23 PM

^very true
dosent sound like a bad recording, the guitars are just too loud

The_Mop 03-11-2012 06:16 AM

Yeah, it's a fair point.

It's really strange, this is the mixtest that has made the most divided opinions - some are like 'FUCK MAN THAT'S AWESOME', others like 'Sounds good but waveform is lulzy' and the aformentioned guitars. If I'm honest it's the most sensible bit of crit so far so cheers guys :P

In other news, hows the lod? I'm fucking about with an old Nokia (I say old, I mean E71 - not too old but fucking terrible nonetheless)... they literally make the most frustrating design choices.

Sad But True 03-11-2012 06:46 AM

nm Zeke, I'm gonne throw my old PAF pro and Lace Sensor Blue into this

Just bought a lovely new Laney as you can see above, and I'm recording my indie band's album. Shit is hard work.

Mild_child 03-12-2012 11:44 AM
