I wouldn't mind playing in a 3 piece one day. That would be fun.

Sometimes I just feel like 5 is a bit too convoluted.
Same here. Having two guitarists really fills the voids and detracts from my playing. I'd prefer to be in a 3-piece so that I can fill a lot of that sonic space. It also makes writing and transportation easier.

Spaceman Spiff 03-10-2010 10:57 AM

My band could benefit from a second guitarist, but, at the same time, I'm trying to avoid adding one. The best option is to get someone that sings and can play another instrument (keys, synth, guitar).

In the past I've written separate lead and rhythm parts, I'm trying now to keep my writing down to one guitar part that will fill out the songs.
I never consider strings. I tend to buy Ernie Ball strings, I don't know what gauge, though.

My style contains both rhythm and lead playing.
Strings probably contribute to almost half of your guitar's tone. Different sizes and gauges will affect your action and intonation. They are vital and wicked cheap (especially compared to bass strings).

I just ordered some GHS .028 dynamite alloy (boomer) single strings to pair with the Zakk Wylde sigs that I have one there. I am overall very impressed with the way they sound and the overall tension they provide. Finally, my guitar doesn't feel like it's got the world's floppiest strings.

Tuning: C F Bb Eb G C
Gauges (repsectively): .070, .052, .036, .028, .018P, .014P
Don't take offence to this, but I find push bike culture a huge joke.

It's like the crappy version of motorbike culture. Much in the same way public transport is frowned upon by car drivers.

And bass is frowned upon by guitar... And everyone.
You mean the practical version.

And frowning on public transport is basically retarded.

All I know is I've never had any beef with the strings I use.

And I only play in standard tuning.

I don't frown on public transportation. I frown on the inconvenience of public transportation.

Fair enough, on both counts, but I think you should at least be aware of your strings enough to know if one is a little to floppy, too twangy, etc. and how to compensate (either with technique or different strings). Not saying that you aren't, but I think that all guitarists and bassists should be.

Spaceman Spiff 03-10-2010 11:48 AM

Yeah, I don't have either of those problems. I'm sure that, if I did notice anything like that, I would correct it. I've just always heard people back EB strings, so I've gone with them. They've been entirely reliable.

BenJammin 03-10-2010 12:54 PM

I have 2 guitarists and have no problems carving out my own sonic niche. Helps that I play well below them a lot of the time, and my bass really cuts through on the higher strings.

Good pic of you, dude. We're getting our photos done this week to put in our press pack. Should be fun.

What piercings?

Thanks. I always think I look ridiculous in live shots.

We aren't even paying this photographer - he just enjoys shooting us and shows up to a lot of our shows and sends us the pictures afterwards. Post the pics of yours when they're done. I'm interested.

I realize now that the piercings didn't show up well in the light like the other pictures. I got both of my eyebrows done. I had the left one done for a while, but pulled it out because it was too shallow.

BenJammin 03-10-2010 02:54 PM

We're paying ours with beer, but I'm expecting good results, since h has a Fine Arts degree in photography.

You don't understand how bad my cities road infrastructure and public transport is.

gaslight 03-10-2010 08:06 PM

Can't say I've ever been to Brisbane, but the trains in Sydney are pretty good stuff.

funkyhoney 03-10-2010 08:10 PM

Trains here aren't bad, but buses are a nightmare. It's similar to Sydney but it's a smaller city, that never got upgraded when it grew. So the CBD is full of two-lane and one-way streets in between massive skyscrapers. Everything is one way so if you miss a turn you're ****ed. It's impossible to find anything because nothing is signed and it's just hugely crowded. More and more people flood in, the buildings get bigger and there's more of them but the roads stay the same.

gaslight 03-10-2010 08:12 PM

Oh yeah, there's some ****house roads in this city too haha. Ages and ages of "no right turn" streets and no parking and ****, if you miss the turn you needed, you're going on an adventure.

All in all I don't wanna complain too much though.

funkyhoney 03-10-2010 08:26 PM

Last time I drove in to the city I went on a 2 hour adventure and had a fit of rage/anxiety.

If you miss a turn you have to go straight for about 10 blocks, then make the turn, then make another turn to back track about 20 blocks and then try and hit the right turn to get back to where you missed the original one to take it. Then you realise you can't turn there and **** hits the fan.

Raayl or anyone who exercises, what's a "good" deadlift amount in relation to your bodyweight?

Spaceman Spiff 03-11-2010 12:17 AM

A couple of pictures of the epic snow-snake my friends and I made a couple of weeks ago.

I weigh 65-70 (**** all ) and can move probably pushing 30kg around at work, continuously with not too much effort.

By not too much effort I mean any more and I'd hurt myself.

Dude, nice.

funkyhoney 03-11-2010 01:01 AM

I just found out my cat's dying. I'm a lot sadder than I thought I'd be.

He already had an opp. to get the cancer removed a while back but it's back. Kemo would basically kill him so the only option is remove the cists again, which is dangerous in it's own right because he's so old. Or just let him go on him way until he gets to the point where he needs to be put to sleep or dies.

I never though I'd feel like this about a pet, but I guess he's nearly as old as me.

gaslight 03-11-2010 01:13 AM

Nah man I'd feel just as down. Life is precious.

FunkMetalBass 03-11-2010 08:10 AM

Hey Ryan, the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car. You should have the manufacturer check that.

gaslight 03-11-2010 08:17 AM

How about that, right is wrong.

FunkMetalBass 03-11-2010 08:22 AM
How about that, right is wrong.
But three rights is a left? But three wrongs don't make a right, and so three wrongs don't make a left either.

I'm so confused.

But I know your steering wheel is wrong.
