I know they write about Tom but I don't think that song is about him.
She's softly dreaming
She's scraped and sober
But theres no one listening

We'll wake up in vacant rooms
Pull you close to my aching skin
Broken glass on the porcelain
Is it what you imagined?
The whole "She" thing and the "pull you close to my aching skin" implies a sexual relationship if you look at the language. Mark, Tom, and Travis were close but...not that close.

No, but I'd imagine that was added in, so it didn't come across as a Tom thing.

Former Blink-182 frontman Tom DeLonge is sick of being accused of maturity.

"Everyone thinks I'm this crazy serious artist now but I still do and say as much stupid **** as I ever have," the Angels and Airwaves frontman says.

"The naked thing doesn't happen quite as much but I'll never get sick of dick jokes."

Since the demise of the frequently nude pop-punk pranksters Blink-182, DeLonge has done much to deserve the "mature" label. He has become a father for the second time and proven himself a capable entrepreneur with his clothing (Atticus), footwear (Macbeth) and online shopping (loserkids.com) companies. Adding legitimacy to the accusations is Angels' music: moody, anthemic and patently more mature than Blink's three-chord punk.

DeLonge started Angels last year, swiftly declaring Blink's "indefinite hiatus" definite.

"I think people are still wondering, 'Is this a side project?' or, 'What is this going to be for the future?'" he says. "I'm just saying it's gonna be the biggest band in the world."

His former bandmates, Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker, have started their own band, +44, and last month admitted to writing a song that blamed Blink's end on DeLonge.

"All the great songs, the great songwriters are singing about things that have affected them emotionally," DeLonge says. "And it doesn't make me feel anything. I would expect it, actually.

"I have songs about [the break-up], too, except mine are, kind of, more indirect. In a sense, mine were more about starting a new life and being optimistic and excited about the future. And I'm not saying that as though I know what theirs are about because I have not listened to their record."

DeLonge has not spoken with Barker or Hoppus since last year. He says he is glad the band no longer exists.

"The last couple of years were kind of painful. They were getting painful. I'm glad that we moved on. At this moment in time, it's kind of like a fresh break-up, like it would be between a guy and a girl, you just need your space. I hope one day we'll figure it out. But as far as music goes and my career goes, I've found my home for the rest of my life."

DeLonge says the end of Blink was a pivotal influence in writing We Don't Need to Whisper, Angels' debut album, which is full of riffs, introspection and jolts of stadium-worthy refrains.

"Where I was in my life, I was pretty depressed coming out of that break-up and wanted to sing something that really picked me up," he says. "The [Angels'] record was more therapy for myself than anything. I figured if I sang anthems that made myself feel good, imagine what it could do for other people."

At the least, DeLonge hopes his anthems will inspire fans to quit using eyeliner and sadness as markers of style.

"I wanted to make being excited cool, because every other band wants to dress up in f---ing make-up and act like they're pissed about everything," he says.

"I don't want to put on a bunch of make-up and walk around going: 'I'm angry at my parents.' It's like, Jesus Christ, f---ing get over it. Be excited, go outside and feel good. 'Cause you know what? It's a choice and it's kind of addictive when you do it."

Too bad AVA sucks and Blink 182 was way better.

yourstruly 10-19-2006 09:11 PM

I would respect him alot more if he quit the band in person, rather than get his manager do it for him. That's a pretty gutless way to get out of a band you have been in for almost 15 years.

British Kid 10-19-2006 11:11 PM

so.... i dont get it.... do mark and travis hate tom now or vice versa or both?

is this like another Korn-ish thing, where Head just up and left and not another word was said type of thing?

MattSharpIsCool 10-19-2006 11:19 PM

They havent spoken in over a year.

I have a feeling they'll get over it eventually, though.

British Kid 10-19-2006 11:25 PM

thats what i thought, but there seems to be a lot of hostility in recent interviews....

i thought maybe someone here had heard something different.

bottlerocket 10-19-2006 11:43 PM

It makes me sad to listen to the part of the Mark, Tom, and Travis Show when they're like, "We are the best of friends. We love each other. You guys mean a lot to me." etc.

MattSharpIsCool 10-19-2006 11:53 PM

I posted a video in this thread awhile ago.

It was a little gay. It was a video someone put together with a bunch of footage of Mark and Tom hanging out. There were voice overs of them saying how they were the best of friends.

Virus278 10-20-2006 01:36 AM

So do u guys think there will be a second AVA album or that it was just a side project like Boxcar was?

BTW, i like the green plus 44 album cover the best - for some reason i think of the color green when I think of plus 44. Does anyone else do that? I mean associate bands with colors? Oh ya, and I still can't wait untill Tom releases his new song. I actually think it's gunna be really good.

MattSharpIsCool 10-20-2006 01:57 AM

Tom has said on many many many occasions that AVA is NOT a side project.

Blink 182 is over. Probably for good.

AVA is his new band. Plus 44 is Mark and Travis' new band.

Yeh its wierd after being friends with someone for 15 years you would think it would have been an extremely intense fight to cause somthing like this.

Surtr 10-20-2006 09:43 AM

As for the colours thing, yeah I do think about different bands as different colours.

Blue = Blink
Red = AvA
Green = (+44)

I'd deffinatly say Tom's losing so much respect because of AvA. They're a decent band, but Tom's really showing his colours. He's coming across as such an idiot.

I know. They were like...the band that represented how my friends and I were when we were like 12 and 13, just saying dick jokes and farting and stuff.

Definitely. Not only does he think AvA is the best and most innovative band of all time (he says it in interviews) but he's trying so hard to be artsy and he's coming off like such a stuck up controlling jerk.

Surtr 10-20-2006 10:21 AM

Tom = Fag
Travis = Tool, but better than Tom
Mark = Teh pwn.

"Morning zoo 4 lyfe!"

I think everyone should download the "Hi My Name Is Mark" Podcast #24. It's Mark doing the his Podcast while on the European Tour. It's cool. :thumb:

To Be fair....

Me and my best mate where like that for 3 years at least, but now we dont talk, we had a fight, just drifted apart, and i cant say its effected me too much, i dunno why.

She emailed me today saying she realy missed me, and i was just like "oh".

But i can totaly see how it could be for them, even if the time isnt much different.

its been 2 years nearly, they would of got over it.

10571z 10-20-2006 07:47 PM

yeh i guess..

AVA suck.

So what's everyone's favourite Blink song? Mine's Wasting Time. It's sooo lo-fi and underground. Yah.

I thought I read in an interview that they were going to keep her vox in that song and on another one...
