Im always too impatient when I check out new music.

BurningSky 05-28-2006 08:08 PM

This song is awesome. The drums are a bit meh, but the guitar is great and Mikael's vocals are as good as always...

Killtacular 05-28-2006 08:11 PM

Mmm.... foreign language Åkerfeldt.

Carrionshine 05-28-2006 08:16 PM

It's a shame we cant hear more stuff from this project.

Rightclick save target as doesnt work?

Darkness 05-28-2006 08:30 PM

Wow, really cool song.

The guitar solo rox.

Tyler 05-28-2006 08:41 PM

Great song. I didn't expect anything but, though.

NymphetamineX 05-28-2006 09:01 PM

Wow, that kicked ***. Mikael is pretty much amazing.

Slapping Penguin 05-29-2006 12:51 AM
I have 7 words for you:

THERE IS A VOICE...CALLING FOR ME...
Oh yes Ted!

Ted do you have recording set up on your drums?

Kaiwaz 05-29-2006 08:47 AM

Nice guitar solo.

Clunge 05-29-2006 09:02 AM

Aha, I've really really really got into Opeth in the last few months, especially their acoustic bits and I was wondering what other bands there are that play similar-ish music.

Any suggestions welcome really :D.

Sleepy 05-29-2006 09:30 AM

I really can't name a lot that sounds like Opeth...but both Agalloch and Vehemence have some awesome acoustic work.

Shadius 05-29-2006 09:34 AM

I don't really like any other bands that sound like Opeth. A lot of their albums have really poor production and their vocalists arn't that great. They just seem to pale in comparison for me.

I can't name any names, because they've slipped my mind, I think I looked "Agalloch" though.

Shattered_Future 05-29-2006 09:52 AM

Novembers Doom. Especially on The Pale Haunt Departure...amazing album. One of the best by an American band.

Det_Nosnip 05-29-2006 09:58 AM
Oh yes Ted!

No. In fact, I don't even have my DRUMS set up. :( Just moved to Chicago, trying to find a place to store my gear and practice. Unfortunately, I haven't even found a job yet, so I don't know how long it will be. I've been playing alot of Doumbek and piano lately, heh.

BurningSky 05-29-2006 10:33 AM

Check out Pelican, they are an instrumental post-rock/metal band that has some sweet acoustic parts...

They sound more like Opeth than any band that I've ever heard, but they are actually good, too...

Carrionshine 05-29-2006 10:39 AM

Novembre has a Orchid/Morningrise feel to them.

Farmakon is similar to Opeth in their heavy bits.

Cardboard Headgear 05-29-2006 03:01 PM
Farmakon is similar to Opeth in their heavy bits.
And then they get funky like there's no tomorrow.

UpperDecker 05-29-2006 04:16 PM

I don't know if anyone else saw this but this site says that Opeth started recording or are starting recording soon for their new album. http://www.funeralportrait.com/index.php?showtopic=66

Darkness 05-29-2006 04:18 PM

Feb 27 2005, smart guy. :p

That was last years release, Ghost Reveries.

Shadows 05-29-2006 04:18 PM

Did you look at the dates? That was all in early 2005. They're talking about Ghost Reveries.

JamJar 05-29-2006 04:19 PM

Are you sure that wasn't March last year because it said their 'eighth' album which was GR.

EDIT: Beaten :upset:

UpperDecker 05-29-2006 05:40 PM

Shadows 05-31-2006 08:27 AM

It happens.

I gots me a taste for some Opeth!

Stoo 05-31-2006 08:56 AM

The Pale Haunt Departure has it's moments, but certainly nothing close to Opeth.

Jesus Christ 4th Page. This is some kind of record.

I was trying to think of a reason to bump this thread...

And I got it... Opeth are doing a small UK tour in November!!

Oh my fucking god.

Moses 06-02-2006 08:35 PM

How is it that Opeth makes all their solos so memorable?

Because Mikael has an amazing sense of melody?

Carrionshine 06-02-2006 08:46 PM

I dunno.They arent pure wankage?

Anyway, it seems Mikael has sort of gained a reputation for being an arrogant ****-talker according to people on Blabbermouth.

http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=52915

I just think Mikael's statement get's taken way out of context. The last sentence in his whole statement becomes the topic title and all of a sudden everyone acts like he went on a whole rant about how much Lordi sucks.

Important note: Blabbermouth users tend to be pathetic virgins who do nothing but piss and moan about how much a band sucks or how much of an asshole some musicians are.Their opinions are worth about a half a cent.

I didn't say it was Opeth, I said it was LIKE Opeth. And you can't deny the similarities.

I don't know, Mikael has been known to be very selective about what he listens to, and he's always been vocal about bands he likes and dislikes. It wouldn't surprise me if that were true.

Thing I took from Akerfeldt interview:

Have you heard the band Naked City?

Yeah, oh yeah! Is that him?! Oh ****! I’ve been listening to them, the guy who ran our first record label, candlelight, he was a very big fan of Naked City and he played us some of their stuff and it’s just amazing. I’m not sure if I think it’s good, but I’m absorbed in it. It’s almost funny because it’s so extreme. They had one song where they put in like thirty different music styles in one song it went from Jazz to Grind Metal…

Mhm, its called “Speedfreaks,” and I’ve seen them do it live.

You must have been laughing.

It was great and the funny part is that most of them are very unassuming, almost boring looking.

And they’re a bit older. Are they American?

Yeah.

**** yeah, I was laughing when I first heard it because I didn’t know if it was a joke or not...

Another one:

BEDLAM: We are not big fans of KATATONIA but hearing this was a different story. I thought it was a totally new band. Good tour going on, sold out shows, what happened with LACUNA COIL?

MIKAEL: They didn't get their green cards, but it's no big loss to me because I think they suck.

And I've also read tons of stuff about when they were on the Sounds of the Underground Tour, how it should be called the "Sellout Tour", and how all the bands suck on it and stuff. He reminds me of me. :p

=-fukifiknow-= 06-02-2006 11:14 PM

well good he has an oppinion, in fact the same oppinon as me so good for him...
one of the hard rock POSERS, OK, good to know

he has ZERO taste in music, i heard those LAME *** songs he likes, and that is just a SHAME a supposed 'rocker', supPOSED rocker, likes that **** !!!!!!

Go Lordi!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hard Rock Halleluja!!!!!!!! God they ROCK!!!!! It's awesome!!!!!

Opeth suck *** asnyway, so what kind of music 'taste' would they have, euro-pop, euro-poop? LAME OPETH!
roflcakes

Tyler 06-02-2006 11:17 PM

Based on his track record and his supposed record collection, Mikael Akerfelt is totally entitled to say certain bands suck, and in the case of Lacuna Coil, point out the obvious.

=-fukifiknow-= 06-02-2006 11:29 PM

i think its hillarious when all these people hear some rockstar talk **** about another band and take it extreemly seriously. rediculous

Tyler 06-02-2006 11:31 PM

If you're referring to me, I wasn't taking it seriously.

=-fukifiknow-= 06-02-2006 11:52 PM

^/talking in general

gmoneyguy 06-03-2006 01:17 AM

I just found a site to make rings tones, and I turned Patterns in the Ivy into one.

Even more hilarious considering all THEY do is talk shit about bands.I guess when you have success, you arent entitled to negative opinions about bands.
