I know gas is short for gasoline. We say petrol.
My point was, do you say both "I need to go get gas for my car" and (providing you have a gas oven/stove top) "turn the gas on"? Damn homophones.
Well, no. I say "turn the oven/stove on." |
 I think the point is that petrol is not a gas and lets leave it at that. I think there's a lot more important blunders of the American nation than their dialect.
Unofficial poll: Who uses the light theme and who uses the dark theme on the forums? |
The aluminum one is weird, I've read a pretty convincing argument that the "um" suffix is correct rather than "ium".
Aluminum *is* correct. Aluminium was an amendment which was subsequently amended. But people didn't want to **** around saying things differently and didn't bother. |
Well, no. I say "turn the oven/stove on."
What if you run out of gas? "Go change the gas bottle!" "Bottle? You mean tank" "Huh? Outside the house!" "You mean in my car, yeah" "No, no, no..." Repeat ad nauseam. |

"Go change the gas bottle!" "Bottle? You mean tank" "Huh? Outside the house!" "You mean in my car, yeah" "No, no, no..." Repeat ad nauseam.
again, what the hell are you babbling about gaslight: having a driver's license does not mean that gas or insurance is necessary. it means you rent or borrow a car when you really need it. 400-1000 a month for regular insurance is waaaay more expensive than a few hundred dollars to rent a car for a short period. and i don't use public transit, i ride my bike. i ride it everywhere. and it is efficient, and very quick. comparable to a car quick, especially in the area that i usually circulate. I tried owning a car for about a year and a half, and just wasted money and lived cheaply while saving nothing, even working two jobs. now, i work part time, and have money to spare. seems pretty obvious to me. |
Bikes are the ****. I really wish I had one. I could easily beat the bus I take and I'd be getting my daily cardio.
|
bicycles are the most efficient machines man has ever built. some real nice road bikes are like 90% efficient, practically zero heat loss.

I'm pulling 3500 cash out of the bank to buy a bike off a mate. I went down ahead of time to make sure there was no clearance period or anything. Anyway, the cashier was like "oh.. so.. you mean a motorbike right?" I said of course, **** paying $3500 for something without an engine. |

It seemed a lot funnier before I typed it, but I wasn't prepared to let my 30 seconds of menial effort go to waste by deleting it. |
fair enough. as long as you understand how ridiculous it was :)

Oh believe me. Maximum ridiculosity.

Hmm, I just bought another bike.
http://montreal.en.craigslist.ca/bik/1631906252.html Gonna make some money off that purchase. |
Sexy bike. Are you selling it? I love when I sell things for more than I paid for it new.
In other news I lost my 120gb Ipod Classic on a 7 hour bus ride. I swear it was in my bag. So unless it got stolen without me knowing (unlikely) or it dropped out of my bag (less unlikely) then I don't know where the **** it is in my house. Good thing is I found a replacement one in excellent cond. for 250. If I find my one I'll easily be able to sell it for 300. Kaching. |
I'll be picking up my bike on Friday. Awesome.

Those GHS Zakk Wilde signature strings are awesome. .011 - .070. I find that the G is far too light for my tastes, though. I might try to make a custom set for more even tension across the strings - I'm not a lead player and a light top is worthless for me, especially when I'm in a baritone tuning.
|
I never consider strings. I tend to buy Ernie Ball strings, I don't know what gauge, though.
My style contains both rhythm and lead playing. |
I've never actually met anyone who was actually 100% "rhythm" or "lead".
|
if i played guitar i'm pretty sure i'd be 100% rhythm.
|
That's like, making a choice to cut off a huge amount of your instrument though. Whether or not you play rhythm or lead in a band is a different choice to whether or not you have both skill sets.
|

Agreed. Our band doesn't have a rhythm or lead guitarist, it just has two guitarists. |

I'm a bassist at heart. Creative rhythms just make more sense to me than solos. It's also the reason I play in drop Bb tuning - low notes are my friend. If I ever joined a band as a guitarist (which is something I've considered if this current band fails), I'd play exclusively rhythm guitar and would probably do some vocals. Speaking of vocals, I need to get back into vocal lessons. Poop. |
Good soloing is all about creative rhythms.
|
Good soloing is all about creative rhythms.
True, but it just doesn't interest me. I'd much rather be holding down the rhythm underneath a solo any day. Plus, with as much improvising as I do when I play the bass, I start to feel that my entire performance is a solo. ha |

I wouldn't mind playing in a 3 piece one day. That would be fun.
Sometimes I just feel like 5 is a bit too convoluted. |

Don't take offence to this, but I find push bike culture a huge joke. It's like the crappy version of motorbike culture. Much in the same way public transport is frowned upon by car drivers. And bass is frowned upon by guitar... And everyone. |
