I might get a job at spoons over the summer as my friend will soon become a supervisor so he can 'reccomend' me. Sounds like a laugh, although I agree most spoons don't have any atmosphere and are mostly full of loud, pushy fu[I]c[/I]ks or rude old people.

yeah, so when my group's project started, i was supposed to be in charge of the venue and was going to help a little with making posters.

i am now in charge of:
venue
lights/sound
advertising (all of it)
bands
food
security

lame.

Haha, for my mass comm class we had to make an anti-John McCain video [rather, we had to make a presidential candidate video, but none of us really wanted to support anyone so we did an anti-candidate video for McCain].
We had to upload it to youtube.
Within like 3 or 4 hours there were 2 comments from random people, and now there've been 34 views.
Which is 21 more than we expected, since each of us viewed it once and that was that.

It's a stupid little video really, but as long as it gets us a decent grade.

I'm not being harsh...I really am crap.

It's since I started recording my practice sessions on a regular basis. It's made me really hate the sounds I create on the drums. And I don't know why. Timing is fine (to an extent), it's all played clean etc etc...it just doesn't groove.

I'm starting to think I need to work on my touch and feel.

My girlfriend and many others are starting to question my psychological state....you know how anorexics look in the mirror and see a fat person? Well I'm like that with my drumming......

It's normal.. More or less...

Hmm....I try to. But how do you work on your touch and feel?

Like the actual way you get notes out of the instrument and how you make them groove. They're like the elements of drumming that you can really describe....as far as I'm aware.



Also, when you are actually crap and know it, it's really hard not to think about it.

Said it before:

Feel = Time + Texture + Dynamics

Touch = Control (Rudiments/Technical Ability)

See, one thing I used to think I had going for me was control. Spent hours a day working on Moeller technique, rudiments, checking I'm hitting the centre of the head and that the dynamics are all even and the way they should each time. I even used to see just how quiet I could get my tap strokes. I don't hack away at the kit hard at all. I play just hard enough to get what I deem a full sound out of the kit. It's not wimpy or aggressive. I barely feel the sticks in my hands anymore. I'm 100% percent chilled when I play...I relax and let the sticks do the work....yet my playing sounds clumsy and has no groove. It's driving me nuts.

So practice playing slowly. Make stories out of your kit. Listen.

All I ever do is practice playing slow/medium-slow tbh.

I think I may have to go buy that. I have his book....that really inspired me and my playing improved a fair bit after reading it.


My self esteem has gotten so low, I've had band opportunities and stuff come my way and I've turned them down cos I have absolutely no faith in my playing at all.
