Efrim 03-06-2010 12:13 PM

We'll find out in a week or so when it's marked, but it don't feel too good.

123, the ones I felt best about were the ones I ****ed up :chug:

Efrim 03-06-2010 07:08 PM

My professor basically put near-unidentifiable passages from lecture slides on the test, rather than passages from the major works that we studied. I knew one, and knew the author of the other one, but nothing else about it.

Epidemechanical 03-06-2010 08:37 PM

Of course. Think I'm gonna use my legs for movement like a sucker?

Efrim 03-07-2010 09:30 AM

This sucker doesn't have to spend money on gas and insurance.

funkyhoney 03-07-2010 10:10 AM

Gas? Hahaha, I love how you call petrol gas. What do you call heating gas? i.e. propane?

Of course when I say "gas" I mean "geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessss." With a proper offensive twang.

More an American jab.

There's some snobby NA guy who comes through my work (local bottle shop in a dodgy suburb) and expects us to be his slaves. i.e. get anything and everything for him, swipe his card for him, etc.

He just throws his AMEX at you and lets out a sigh.

The point of this story is that every time any of us refuse to do things for him for whatever reason it may be he winds off into a story about how "people yooooost toooo poomp yooor geeesss for yeeeww."

Stuff in your car's tank = gas.
Stuff in your stove (not as common as electricity these days) = gas.
Stuff in your intestine that is especially prevalent after eating bean-laden Mexican food = gas.

FunkMetalBass 03-08-2010 09:03 AM

I want a Baritone guitar, man. I think I'm going to try to sell my Ibanez and buy an Agile 2800 LP-style baritone.

In other news, the gold EMG 81/60's that I ordered should be in today, so I can put those in my Epi Les Paul and have a more beastly guitar that will make my guitarist's tone look like pure bullpoop.

Gas for cars is short for gasoline.

Heating gas is also known as natural gas.

I know gas is short for gasoline. We say petrol.

My point was, do you say both "I need to go get gas for my car" and (providing you have a gas oven/stove top) "turn the gas on"?

Damn homophones.

Just saying, stuff you put in your car is petroleum distillate. I'm not sure why gasoline came into use.

Probably the same reason you guys say ALUMINUM. It sounds weird. I have a book around here that explains that though.

gaslight 03-08-2010 07:27 PM

The aluminum one is weird, I've read a pretty convincing argument that the "um" suffix is correct rather than "ium".

So you never plan on driving, ever?

BenJammin 03-08-2010 08:13 PM
So you never plan on driving, ever?
Depending on where you live, it's not a necessity, at all.

gaslight 03-08-2010 08:30 PM

Sure, public transport can be pretty useful, but it's worth at least having a driver's license even if you're not going to buy a car.

BenJammin 03-08-2010 08:31 PM
Sure, public transport can be pretty useful, but it's worth at least having a driver's license even if you're not going to buy a car.
Agreed, but driver's license =/= gas and insurance.

gaslight 03-08-2010 08:34 PM

Of course not, though, if you're to drive a car, petrol is pretty essential and insurance is a good idea.

What else are you going to do, hope that buses and trains go where you want to go, and pay a king's ransom for taxis the rest of the time?

I don't know how it is in your big cities, but ours have pretty precise and efficient public transit systems. It's not hard to get where need to go within a reasonable period of time at pretty much any time of the day.

gaslight 03-08-2010 08:40 PM

Oh, we have a good train system. Buses I find pretty annoying.

I use the trains to go in to uni, or to the CBD in general, but if I'm doing a gig or a rehearsal, I'm hardly going to cart my stuff around a train or a bus, and I don't wanna pay a heap of cash to get there/back in a taxi, so it's times like that I'm glad I can drive myself places.
