No problem here :)
I thought AJFA's production was awesome, much better than the rest of the albums..The bass is tight and punchy,..
What bass?

\m/Pete\m/ 01-12-2005 12:25 AM

ok sorry i guess i should have been more specific. I was talking about the tightness with the drums and referring that with listening to it with a stereo system (like a nice car or home one)
whoevers running around saying metallica killed cliff so they can go commercial, or if cliff lived metallica would have stayed true to thrash metal, you're not very bright.
1) I heard it from here that Cliff had stated in an interview that they were going to try new things. Metallica's been flamed of selling out their entire career. Cliff's own quote (i'm just saying it to roughly what it actually is) "If people think that just because we're on a major record label that we sold out, then w/e." Listen to Kill 'Em All, and listen to Ride the Lightning. Listen to RTL and then MOP, listen to MOP and then AJFA. They're all different. Heres what I think is going on (Only major albums)
NLTL/Kill' Em All---->Ride The Lightning----->MOP------->AJFA------>Metallica---
Metal/Hard Punk---> Metal at its prime----->Metal----->Thrash Metal--> Rock/Metal---->
-->Load-------->Reload--------->St.Anger------->???
-->Rock------->Soft/Rock------->nu-metal-------> Metal/Hard Punk (start the cycle again)
FYI, Hard Punk refers to lots of power chords.
(edit)
My point is that each album has different even with Cliff in the band, save RTL and MOP.... Wait...
Regardless, I stand firm in my belief that Cliff wasn't just some metal anchor. Back when Cliff was alive, I heard Lars/James were the supposed metal anchor and they wouldn't change for no body.

They change their music every album and, big deal. You've gone through it for 20 years, whats the big deal about it now? This is Metallica. If they stayed the same, I'm positive everyone would want them to diversify instead of staying to plain old metal. Im glad they do, because I don't want to listen to fast thrashy metal everytime I pop in their CD. Songs like NOM, or St.Anger are important (to me).
I agree with pretty much everything you said here except for some of your categorizations, i.e. how in the hell do you call AJFA thrash metal, while calling MOP just Metal?? because of dyers eve, blackened and half of one?? What about Battery, most of MOP, Disposable Heroes, Damage inc.??? These are just metal to you? Can't say i understand that one. Plus, as much as you may or may not have like Load, how can u call it soft rock? Slow isn't the same as soft. Tempo does not vary the heaviness of a song. I'd more like call it soft Metal if anything. But i agree there is a definite change in their sound even throughout the first 4 albums.

^Dream~Theater^ 01-12-2005 12:40 AM

AJFA is most definately NOT thrash

ANGUS YOUNG13 01-12-2005 12:41 AM

what is the best metallica song? wats ur opionion in my opionion it would be a tie between ride the lightning or the unforgiven 2 probably the unforgiven 2

^Dream~Theater^ 01-12-2005 12:42 AM

Overall is pretty hard....Disposeable Heroes or..The Four Horsemen

Freezing Moon 01-12-2005 12:44 AM
What? thats one of my favorite solos'. Why in your opinion does it ruin the song. When they play it live Kirks improv at the end of the solo owns btw
I just remember listening to it awhile ago. At first I thought it was sweet, and I came to the first solo expecting something spectacular, and it just didn't do it for me.

It doesn't necessarly ruin the song, like I said, it's good overall, but I just don't listen to it as often. It's just my opinion and personal taste.

Leper 01-12-2005 12:47 AM

Whoa why's everyone dissing AJFA suddenly. IMO it's their second best album(MOP of course in the #1 spot). The only things i don't like about the production of the album is how they changed the snare drum (however this only really bugs me when i listen to blackened, and i barely notice it as i listen to the rest of the album), and how the title track is a ten minute song when it should really only be about 7. I could really care less about the lack of bass in the album personally because i think it gave it a more screaming angry sound to it, which was fitting, i think, to tribute Cliffs death.

ArcLite 01-12-2005 12:49 AM

I also think AJFA is second best. Yeah, you can complain about the production, but the songs are top notch next to MOP.

btoto 01-12-2005 10:19 AM

Oh man, AJFA and Black are the two albums I hate. On AJFA, 'tallica didn't care about the songs...they cared about tehir length and speed. That is why most of that album is boring !

If they cared about length and speed, which are elements of a song, then they cared about the songs.
I'm sure they cared about the songs as a whole anyway.

Rasta Rocker 01-12-2005 10:41 AM

Being a tribute to Cliff....I would think they did care

I had lots of arguement on this thread about AJFA before. I don feel like writing the same $hit all the time. For me it's one of the worst....in general it's one of the weakest !

btoto 01-12-2005 10:47 AM

Anyway, today I listened to Loverman and it's been about 2 years I didn't click on that song in my playlist.........Oh $hit, that's a very good song and James sings beautiful.

New Album and Favourite 'tallica song

I've got into metallica for several years now and they are without a shadow of a doubt a legendary band!

Just wanted to know which metallica album is your favourite and your favourite fast and slow song?

My fav album is: Master of Puppets
Fav slow song: Fade to Black
Fav song: Seek and Destroy or Battery

By the way, any predictions on how their new album would sound like?

AJFA used to be my favourite album, but I gradually got bored of it and the production began to annoy me.

It still holds my favourite song though. No prizes for guessing which (an uncontroversial choice)
