I think that the lack of decent solos is what really killed St. Anger. They
stopped doing cool **** like in Puppetz and took on a more Nu Metal approach. (As in no solos). |
progressive rock is taking over thats wat bob rock did to em
|
I know that bob rock has done a lot for the band, but I feel he is
taking them in a bad direction. Maybe a new producer is in order. (Like the guy who was with slayer, acdc, and more recently slipknot) While some may not like these bands, he brought out their full potential (I'll +rep whoever remembers his name as I am currently suffering from CRS) |
Rick Rubin.

i totally agree w/u lightningmetal but have u seen their new doc. some kind o monster? they love that guy they personally asked him to produce and even play bass on st anger lets face it theyre older, married, theyre parents, and theyre entering new metal music i hate it but its the truth

Exactly. Their music will never be as good as it was. Not a one of them can play their instruments like they used to. They are all good friends with Bob and they like him, so they won't fire him. Hopefully this album will be better, like we all have been saying |
Thank god Bob won't be doing bass again. I hope Rob has a HUGE influence on this album, for basslines at least.

They didnt have a bassist... he can play bass... hence the whole bass player position... |
ya and unfortunately, or i atleast have not heard, there will probly never be another band like them they were the def. of speed metal hammet could play till his fingers fell off and they just rocked hard at least we know theyll go down in history as one of the greatest of all time

I have seen trailers of it. I know for a fact that they just looooooooove bob rock, but do you think they can endure another bad album? After saint anger many metallica fans are now leary of their favorite band. His bass lines are terrible, and the band being unable to stand one another doesn't help. From what I've seen, bob hasn't tried once to help the band get along (though I may be wrong). Also what's up with the band going to therepy. Most bands that I know of (pro or amateur) deal with **** one of 2 ways: 1. Box 2. Fire people Beings that no one wants to see anyone get fired from the band, then lars and james got to find some boxing gloves :p |
Marty Friedman and Chris Poland can both run circles around Hammett. Metallica wasn't the definition of thrash.
I love them and all, but fanboyism is stupid. You can't say that Metallica were/was/is the definition of thrash/speed, because there's many bands out there, tons underground, that can run circles around them. The greatest? Hell no. One of the greatest? Definitely. Top 10? Maybe. Edit: That was to solosliveforever. |

I'd really like to say that, but I can't admit that to being true. There are plenty of guitarists coming out that are good, if not better, than Kirk Hammett. But to your other point, I don't think there will ever be a better band |
they got therapy because james and lars were too egomaniacal and kirk is just goin along w/ it, even though the album hit 1 on the charts fans are gonna get really pissy if they dont straighten up their act, u should get the doc. anyway its good and there are some funny parts in there too
|
edit:vashts
ya but they sold over 90 million albums tell me one more of those metal bands ur talkin about that has done that |
Albums sold does not mean they're the greatest Metal band ever. Led Zeppelin have sold how many albums? That doesn't mean they're the best Rock band ever.
|
How good a band is is entirely subjective to the said person's opinion.
How enjoyable something is is a matter of opinion, where as things such as success etc...are fact. it's useful to be able to distinguish between the two. |

(Even though he is a jazz player at heart and I don't play jazz). Hammett is a phenomenal player but as vashts80 stated there are other great thrash guitarist that could give him a run for his money. (Dave Mustaine for one :naughty: ). |
Ok fine, I think in overall talent and chemistry, Metallica was one of the greatest bands ever.
Talent, not really. There are so many bands that are more talented than them. |
Ok fine, I think in overall talent and chemistry, Metallica was one of the greatest bands ever.
Their talent is unquestionable, but their chemistry? Lars and James have never, ever, EVER been able to get along for very long. I find that when things go well they go really well but when bad things happen, crap hits the fan. There is no denying that they are one of the greatest bands ever, but their chemistry is confusing at best. |
They didnt have a bassist... he can play bass... hence the whole bass player position...
I know of people who have been playing bass for less than a year that are better than him. This was an example of a band trying to rush an album. If they had been patient they would have found a better bassist at that point in time. If they already had lines set up, and just asked bob to play them, then I wouldn't b**ch as much, but the sad truth is they wanted him to write all the bass parts himself. Who know's maybe if they had waited, they would have gotten rob, and had HIM write the lines (which he does very well) maybe the album would have been better. |
it was just their egos that got in the way of makin succesful music i mean st anger sucked, maybe they havent resolved everything
|
eh theyu just put out a bad one
they just missed the target |
i think rob has something to do with that but the real fact is they were and are entering a time period where, as i have stated before, progressive rock/metal rules, and bob, over the years kept pushing and pushing them until they broke from thrash metal, what they need to do on the next album is take more time on a song, the lyrics werent all that good with st anger (the song) exception
|
James and Lars not getting along kinda helped I think. They used to push each other to write better music.
That's absolutely true metal guitar, they pushed each other quite well. But how long do you think they can withstand the bull**** before that becomes counterproductive? How can a band write great songs when they don't even want to be in the same room as each other? That whole thought defeats the purpose of a band. |
which is another big reason why they took group therapy, they didnt want to play w/each other and that was a huge conflict for years
|
the whole reason behind no solos comes out in the doc. too its crap
|
My whole worry is that they can't/won't put differences aside
when they're in the studio. Ego trips have got to end if this new album is going to be successful. Look at it this way when Cliff ran the band, things were overall great. Then James ran the band. Things were alright but not great. Now Lars wants leadership and things are going sour. Popularity with Lars among fans is already on thin ice as far as his crap w/ napster. |
the whole reason behind no solos comes out in the doc. too its crap
I want the doc. but I keep getting insufficient funds every time I swipe my ATM card. :p :thumb: |
lars is a complete d*** when it comes to napster, james gets really emotional about alot of s***, and kirk just sits back and watches his band screw up, will they get their differences resolved? who knows, although i am anticipating a new album
|
that sucks sorry lightingmetal

whats with you guys get avatars!!

I feel so sorry for Kirk. He is going through so much s*** trying to keep the band together. His situation reminds me of a kid having to listen to parents who never get along, but stay together because they don't believe in seperation. Kirk deserves better than that. |
theres like 8 people here without avatars and something annoying about it
