what did you do?

Shattered_Future 02-08-2006 03:17 PM

I've always contemplated moving to Canada for some reason or other when I get out of my house...

SDBTS is an excellent track. It's happish, almost.

Artemician 02-08-2006 03:47 PM

Hello all at the Opeth board (I'm new here in case you didn't realize).

Anyway, I got Morningrise just a couple days/weeks ago and something's been bugging me a bit. I really like The Night and the Silent Water (even though I like Black Rose Immortal more), but I read on Opeth's site that Mikael and Peter apparently dislike it quite a lot. What do you guys think of it?

i am the robots 02-08-2006 03:52 PM

Night and the Silent Water is good, I don't understand why they don't like it... kinda like Killswitch Engage with When The Balance Is Broken.

gmoneyguy 02-08-2006 03:59 PM

I just bought my tickets to the March 19 show.

Its one of my favorites by Opeth. They said on Lamentations that they didn't like it cause all the other bands where they were started sounding just like them. something like that

Stoo 02-08-2006 04:31 PM

They said something like they didn't like the older Opeth sound (Dual guitar harmonies and the like) thats why on Still Life onwards they opted for more traditional heavy riffing. They said all the Swedish metal bands were using the old style and they wanted to move on.

I can't remeber if I heard that on Lamentations or the FaceCulture videos of Mikael.

ok lateralus 02-08-2006 04:50 PM

Can anyone send me Still Day Beneath the Sun on AIM?

m0rningrise is my AIM sn

Not much, if anything, about the Still Life album is "traditional."

I can't remember where I heard this, but I read somewhere that they dislike it because it was about the death of Mikael's uncle or something like that. The song itself is very good though.

Yes, but grandfather actually.

Plus the general disinterest in that style doesn't help.

Jude 02-08-2006 06:38 PM

Mike says on Lamentations that he loves Morningrise and thinks it's really great but the reason they stopped playing in that guitar style was because so many other Swedish metal bands were doing it at the same time and he felt it was getting played out (paraphrase).

The reason he dislikes TNATSW is because of his grandfather's death being associated with it, other bad memories, etc. if I remember right.

Truth. I've started listening to this album lately, and it's entirely unconventional for what was going on in music at the time. Hell, even to this day, it's still unconventional.

Moses 02-08-2006 06:55 PM

Finally got BWP back on my computer from such a long time of not being able to listen to it. It sounds so good.

Darkness 02-08-2006 10:35 PM

Nice thread kill Moses, but I'm going to ruin it.

I thought this video was pretty funny. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-308190821724584227&q=opeth

:p

invisiman 02-08-2006 10:36 PM

Is Martin Lopez back aboard for the NA leg of their tour? Sorry if this has been gone over, but there's no real good search terms to find it.

I just listened to it (can't friggin' sleep) and I was blown away, as usual. This time it was by how well the album flows. The parts seem to run into each other more perfectly than on any other Opeth album, especially on White Cluster (which is one hell of an underrated song)
With a welfare system like they have, that's what I would be doing!
I suck at hockey:( And welfare sucks most of the time. Usually you don't have enough money to support anyone but yourself. No, i wasn't on welfare but some of my family in the rez are on welfare.

kurrpt 02-09-2006 09:28 AM

whats some of the "better" Opeth songs.

I have 3 albums i barely listen to, and i cant seem to get into this band
