Mr Herb 07-24-2005 11:56 PM

Also lateralus dsnt have songs like jimmy wich I cant really stand :-/

good night peeps

above: ye or on one big msn convo.

streetsoldier_249@hotmail.com my msn just cause i feel like whoring it :)

SonorKen 07-24-2005 11:59 PM

Lateralus is definiatly alot darker than Aenema. Aenema is still my favorite CD of thiers, with Salival coming in 2nd. Aenema creates so many sound scapes and seems so raw. Lateralus seems alot more powerful and dark, it seems to have the most energy of any of their recordings.

We would have to do it on AIM, my MSN is dicked up and I don't wanna mess with it. Im about to go to bed tonight, we should actually make plans for it so we could get alot of members involved with it.

Moses 07-25-2005 12:01 AM

It's just that alot of people say Undertow is the darkest and I think that's just because of the album art. If you don't count that it has some of the happiest riffs Tool has ever recorded.

We should have like a weekly conversation or somthing.

Mr Herb 07-25-2005 12:02 AM

undertow= raw and dark
Laterlus= dark and emotional

undertow had emotions too, mostly anger but you get what I mean right?

dam i dont have aim

good night

Moses 07-25-2005 12:04 AM

I don't think Undertow was all that dark in my opinion. Some parts of it are and sound like you're being corrupted via headphones but aside from a few of those parts I'd say it's the album with the lightest aura.

Dude3 07-25-2005 12:05 AM

Yeah, we should have a chat. Maybe an AOL buddy chat thing?

Whatever, I'm going to sleep. Here's my AIM for the hell of it: Crazynessdude3

Good Night!

SonorKen 07-25-2005 12:10 AM

Yea, Im out for the night too. Everyone think about starting a weekly or bi-weekly chat session. You can call it Tool related or whatever, it seems were more of a group of people who have the same ideas and found each other through a band.

BlindWriting 07-25-2005 12:27 AM

That's actually a pretty great idea. AIM Tool community chat.

I just have to finish listening to "Stranger By The Minute" by Porcupine Tree and then "The Glass Prison" by Dream Theater, and I'm off to bed.

Moses 07-25-2005 12:41 AM

Chats **** up my comp really bad but hopefully we can have some good discussion in there so it'll be worth it.

jensmatty 07-25-2005 12:43 AM
Thats a difficult question to answer. Alot of it is patterns that he has put together in strings to run together. Some of the actual patterns that he plays are with the Roland Handsonic. The Handsonic is phenominal because it will allow you to play up to 10 to 12 different rhythms at one time. You use all 10 of your fingers and your feet. I believe the majority of the intro to this is all strung out in (man, I am having a brain fart, I can't think of the word for a string of pre-arranged music) strings or pre-arranged music that he triggers the beginning and end.

If you listen to the recording you will hear the tabla type beats continue. This could be done as overdubbing in the studio but I have heard it played live and it is identical to the recording. He was playing the Handsonic when I saw them live in 92.
This post is a bit outdated but I'd like to give my input on it... I tried to score out the intro to Eulogy and I actually noticed that a way he could play it is the first sound u hear at the very beginning is just a repeating sample, and he plays the shaker/cabasa sample and any cymbal hits with his hi-hat hand, and the "ting" sound in 3's over that with his snare hand (im left handed so I'm not being specific about which hand it is) and then his snare hand plays the clicking/popping... I've got a score of it on one of my computers, so if I can I'll put it up to show what I mean.

clearvision 07-25-2005 04:12 AM

Soo time to catch up after the fellows across the pond went for about 10 pages :upset:

Jake - Beats my IQ by about 7 or 9, i can't remember. Hehe GG

Crutch - Sound really good, i wanna hear you in a proper studio, not live, with the drums mixed up properly *drool*. Pretty interesting that I'm gonna be the first person to comment on stinkfist at the end of snippets :p. It's just a shame you cut off just before the pre-chorus :(

Seth (I think) - Your vocals are shit hot. It would be great if you could laydown some vocals for Lateralus, and mebbe stinkfist/part of me if they get finished.

Jake #2 (I'm counting you as the organiser of the covers:p) - Numbers, Chris, 3074326, whatever you like to call him. Posted his guitar work earlier, but the link got banned super-quick. He said contact him on aim for it.

Aenima/Lateralus darkness debate - I'd say aenima is darker, it deals with stronger subject matter imo, and songs like push!t, third eye and Jimmy create a realy dark and brooding atmosphere. Whereas tracks on Lateralus are slightly lighter, the patient, parabol/a, schism. Though D/R/T can send you to pretty dark places.

That should do it...

Adam Jones is GOD 07-25-2005 04:18 AM

^^ That saves me from reading back properly. I can skim now and catch up.

clearvision 07-25-2005 04:19 AM
^^ That saves me from reading back properly. I can skim now and catch up.
Pshh it's your turn tomorrow.

And i only did it because my mum kicked me out of bed to early and i have nothing to do before my driving lesson.

Wet roads \m/

Syncratic 07-25-2005 05:22 AM

I believe there already is a Tool Chat. I saw it on the Tool Group on MySpace. I don't know much about it, so.....

Adam Jones is GOD 07-25-2005 05:24 AM

This is the only tool chat I need right here. Any other tool specific sites /chats rooms on the net are fully of fan boys and morons

dUSK 07-25-2005 05:25 AM

^ Your the guy who wanted Bill Hicks and RATM stuff. Two Bill Hicks albums were uploaded here not long ago, I think the links may still be valid. I suggest you look for them. I'll send you the rest of the stuff when I see you on AIM.

g mac07mx

EDIT: to MJK

PeEpHoLe_10 07-25-2005 05:34 AM

Off topic, and not even in the right place but G mac, are you the guy that talks up Cog alot?

dUSK 07-25-2005 05:53 AM

That would be me. If your interested in hearing them I answered a request in R&M YSI earlier today. :)

PeEpHoLe_10 07-25-2005 06:01 AM

Ohh, I actually really like them, i just thought i would tell you some of my good news involving them. I was looking through my local paper the other day i found an ad in there saying that Cog are playing at a club in my town next month. I was so excited as i have never seen them and my town is crap and NEVER has good bands here. Its the Country Music Capital of Australia, lol. But yeah, me is excited to see Cog next month for $22. Also, Shihad are also playing, my guess is that Cog will open for Shihad,so i plan to walk out on them and try and catch up for a chat with Cog. That would rule.

dUSK 07-25-2005 06:06 AM

Haha, ok, Cog are awesome live. I have tickets to the Brisbane show. They are also really cool guys, I met them an at instore. I played it smart though, and waited at the end of the line before getting my stuff signed, and then discussed the braille on the album with Flynn. Also, try mentioning Isis to Lucius, the drummer, it I talked to him about music for a good 10 minutes after that. (Isis are his favourite artists). :thumb:

PeEpHoLe_10 07-25-2005 06:15 AM

Sweet, thanks for the tip. Im really excited for the show, i have NIN on the 20th then Cog on the 25th, should be awesome.

dUSK 07-25-2005 06:18 AM

Heh, I have Cog on the 19th and NIN on the 22nd.

/is uploading two Bill Hicks albums which will be posted here

SonorKen 07-25-2005 06:23 AM

Ahhh sweet, I'll definiatly dl the Hicks albums, all I have are some individual stand up bits.

Thanks for the compliments on Crutch. Not to brag but the recordings really don't do us justice. You can't hear Seths full potential, ya can't hear the hi-hat patterns, the kick drums or the killer bass rhythms. Im really looking forward to hitting the studio and nailing out a demo cd to get some radio airtime.

I also uploaded the RATM album earlier tonight, so if anyone doesn't have it, download it now. Otherwise, enjoy :)

Syncratic 07-25-2005 06:54 AM

Thanks, G Mac, it worked.....\m/

I just uploaded Mesuggah-I, but I can't listen to it at the moment, gotta wait until my sister is out of the shower, I'll take one, and then I'll listen to it.

Adam Jones is GOD 07-25-2005 08:43 AM

hxxp://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=13JI1W9XFB5BR2DUGMOMLTSF0J

Bit late now, but thats my sample track of I. Its only over a minute long, and gives you a good idea of the track.

Though I guess everyone has it in this thread now

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-25-2005 09:09 AM

Bob-@ 7 or 9. I saw the upload, and I'd get it from him over AIM, but it would take probably 2 hours to get. :-/ I'll ask him to upload it again, but also to not link directly.

clearvision 07-25-2005 09:15 AM

Well..i reviewed but didn't rmember the figure, it was either 137 or 139...

Darkness 07-25-2005 09:20 AM

We should do that thing where we listen to all the albums at the same time then discuss them... That'd be sweet. Plus I could cheat and get a chance to listen to Tool again... hehe...

SonorKen 07-25-2005 09:28 AM

^^^ I agree, I think it would be interesting to listen to the albums and see how other people react to certain parts of the songs. Maybe we can plan to do this Thursday evening some time, this will give us several days to organize it.

Darkness 07-25-2005 09:29 AM

Please not Thursday! I'm at Sounds of the Underground all day...

clearvision 07-25-2005 09:31 AM

Will the english folk have to be sitting here at 3 in the morning?

Adam Jones is GOD 07-25-2005 09:32 AM
Please not Thursday! I'm at Sounds of the Underground all day...
All the more reason to then, lucky sod.

Best make sure Opeth are on good form for September

Darkness 07-25-2005 09:32 AM

If you don't, it may be a bit early for some of us... (to clearvision)

To Ben : Oh, I will.

SonorKen 07-25-2005 09:34 AM

hahaha well, I work tues night, wed night, and Im leaving for the beach friday night!

I would say we all meet thursday night at 10 or 11pm EST. We would just set up a mx chat room and start off on Aenema or whatever the majority of people have. If we decide on a cd now those that don't own it could purchase it before Thursday.

clearvision 07-25-2005 09:34 AM

But i was struggling yesterday doing IQ tests at half 11 :( I need my beauty sleep.

clearvision 07-25-2005 09:36 AM

Or you could screen a band, by uploading the album, using pod casts maybe (though i'm not too familiar with them). And people could comment, but you could start with something by tool to get it to work. Wether i participate depends on if i can get sleep beforehand/stay awake.

Darkness 07-25-2005 09:36 AM

:upset: Ah well... I'll have to miss it this time..

SonorKen 07-25-2005 09:40 AM

Majority rules, whenever the most people can be on is when we should do it. This sounds like someone needs to take charge of it and organize it haha.

Darkness 07-25-2005 09:42 AM

Alright lets all vote on a day within the next week, I vote any day but Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. :D
