hm... i had a lot to do for university and therefore i hadn't the time to listen to the 'Something i can never have' version of Radiant Decay.
... and it's disgusting. i don't want to say, that the composition is bad, no its good, but the voice is horrible. For me it is as if a little girl would sing a song she can't/don't understand... where is the emotion? this song is so depressive and beautiful - and what does she does? she violates the song! she sings without feeling, she sings monotonic. I think i am the only one, a lot of you said before, that the version is great... for me its not. ps.: isn't the background sample taken from the movie 'Requiem for a dream'? OMG... what had they done to HURT... :upset: thats pure RAPE!!!! |
^Yeah, I wasn't too thrilled about it either, actually. I'm usually not a very big fan of female vocals. Not saying that I don't like any. Heh, being a female myself you'd think I'd stand by them but I don't know. Anyway, yeah, I heard most of the songs but I couldn't get through "Hurt".:upset:
|
I'm a real sucker for female vocals, so I loved it. I can understand how you find it monotonous though.
As for the rest of the album, it's pretty bad. I still haven't listened Hurt all the way through, as I just can't take it. |
there are passages/moments when Trent Reznor accents some words in this song (to give emotion) - she didn't.
and i haven't said that i don't like female vocals.... it has nothing i common with female vocals... she just can't sing 'Something I Can Never Have' |
If anyone has got it (and has time!) could they please send me still... I cant find my copy anywhere :upset: :upset: :upset:
dead_in_holywood@hotmail.com thanks guys! |
Amen, can i have it too..robertchapman88@gmail.com
|
yes, no problem... as far as i won't have any problems with YSI, i will send you the link; when i will get problems i will upload it on my homepage
/just listen to 'still' and its my birthday :upset: |
Well, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! Hope you have a good one. :thumb:

So a chat with Trent took place last night over at the spiral boards. Just thought I'd post up the "important' or "interesting' points on here for other fellow NIN fans.
--I heard that you were willing to do a re-released version of Pretty Hate Machine with extra songs, but Ryko wouldn't pay for it. What extra songs do you have that are unreleased from that era? Any chance they can be posted on iTunes or on nin.com for free? trent_reznor> There are a FEW snippets that are from that era that with the proper motivation could be developed / finished / mixed --Will there ever be another album like Still?? trent_reznor> I'd like that, too. I'm working on a few things all at once right now. Some of the stuff is in that category and I may group it together into a similar-type thing. NOT the next "proper" NIN record, though. --I've heard rumors of a soloish piano tour, similar to the performance for reAct. How likely is this, when might it happen, and can you provide us with any other details? trent_reznor> Wow - many people have asked me that recently. I was thinking out loud during an interview when I mentioned that (never a good idea). I would LIKE to do that eventually, but it will not be in the next 6 months - my time is filled at the moment with touring and working on the new record. --Can you please clarify the situation with Jerome Dillon in regards to the conflicting reports we've been hearing? trent_reznor> Here's the truth: regardless of what he apparently now wants you to believe, we cancelled several shows due to his heart. He told me "I have a clean bill of health" and shortly thereafter he spent the night again in the hospital. We auditioned drummers to complete the tour - with full disclosure to Jerome. He reacted poorly to us finding someone and choosing to finish this current leg of the tour with that person. Tempers flared and the decision to permanently replace him was made - by everyone in the band and management. Jerome is a great drummer and I truly wish him well - sometimes he just seems to get his facts a little mixed up. --Trent, will you continue doing meet & greets and soundchecks thru next years tour? trent_reznor> Maybe. Let me explain. The condition I demanded in regards to continuing the tour was that I could have time to work on the new record. That may eat into soundcheck time for me. We'll see. I enjoy meeting you guys. --any possibilities of releasing the tour on dvd trent_reznor> I wanted to film this leg, but there was problems with the record label. I hope to film the upcoming tour (which will be announced very soon) --Would you ever consider doing a completely instrumental album? Or a score as opposed to a soundtrack for a film? trent_reznor> Maybe, as long as it didn't mislead people as to what it was. --I'm sure this question has been asked a million times but is Closure still going to be coming out on DVD? If so, when can we expect it? trent_reznor> I've been asking that same question myself. It's done and waiting on the record label. --What are the chances of hearing a studio version of "Non Entity", or other B-Sides/new tracks not on With Teeth? trent_reznor> Chances are good. Patience. --will you be purchasing manson's new fragrance? trent_reznor> He's certainly made some things recently that SOUND like ****, has he moved into other senses as well? Ok, well, i gotta go at the moment...I apologize for the long post. If anyone is interested i'll post up whats left of it a little later. |
wow... some nice news up there. yes post more of them.... want to read the whole interview.
When he plans to make a second 'still' record i can't imagine he can do this... still ist just perfect! its the same as with the Fragile... he never will top this and if he really does a second still it will have a very different sound and style. to the last question... trent still doesn't speak to MM  ------------------------------------------------------------ edit: i just send you the link... |
Ok, here's whats left of the chat transcript:
--trent- with the last release changing so much from the ones before it (fragile mainly) to more of a straight up rock type of thing- do you think you will continue in the same vein as "with teeth" or switch it up again? i've always loved how you can switch things up and still come across as totally confident in what you are doing. trent_reznor> It really depends on what FEELS like the right thing to do - what excites me the most. So far, the new material is different than... well... different. --being at the last show you played "not so pretty now" at (and the 2 after that) i was just wondering why you stopped playing it? did you just decide that you didn't want to play it anymore? are there any plans to release this song in the future? (studio version?) trent_reznor> It will show up somewhere. --Trent: What's the overall feeling you get after doing the meet & greets at shows? trent_reznor> What I thought could turn out to be a hassle has been really cool. If it wasn't for you guys I wouldn't be able to be doing this, so a sincere thank you from me is due. --ive webcasts are obviously very difficult to do, but are something we would all love. Where do you see Nine Inch Nails online content moving in the next couple years? Are webcasts planned? More behind-the-scenes footage like we're getting now? More info content (e.g. setlist archives)? trent_reznor> Webcasts are coming. More interactivity is necessary. This is primitive, but at least it's a start. Thanks for bearing with us. --Why no sacd version of with teeth? I think sacd shines above dvd quality sound, so was just wondering why one for tds and not with teeth? trent_reznor> These decisions are made by record companies. Ask Interscope. I was told the future of music is the Dual Disc. Um... OK. --Trent, will we ever get to hear "And All That Could Have Been", "We're in This Together Now" or "Sunspots" live? trent_reznor> Yes, maybe and yes. --Now that some time has passed. How do you feel about Nothing Records? Do you think you could have created "The Downward Spiral" or "The Fragile" if you had been directly under Interscope. Would those albums turned out different? trent_reznor> Good question. As far as my own music, I don't think the concept of nothing records has any impact on the way they sound or the freedom to create them. As far as running a record company, I have no interest in this climate. The business side of the music industry is slimy and sickening. --You've mentioned that the next tour will probably be a two-band bill. Who is your ideal choice for the second band? trent_reznor> Not sure yet. Someone that I like, respect and could imagine hanging out with. Probably not DFA1979. --Do you masturbate often? trent_reznor> constantly. I am right now. --Will you be returning to Canada after this leg of the tour is over? trent_reznor> yes. --So do you like your head shaved better? trent_reznor> For the moment, yes. --What was the last concert you went to as a spectator? Do you pick apart the sets/lighting/sound etc. or just enjoy the show? trent_reznor> Just saw Kanye West and Dillinger Escape Plan one after the other in the same evening. Kanye did a respectable job for a hip-hop artist (who are ALWAYS terrible live) and Dillinger was unbelievable. The coolest thing I have seen in a long time. --how did you like visiting japan? did you do anything exciting? what did you buy at akihabara? trent_reznor> I love Japan. If the language barrier wasn't so great, I'd consider moving there. --I'd like to see you record will Saul Williams, any chance of that? trent_reznor> Yes, we've discussed working together on him new record. --How much of the stage design and production elements are your concepts? trent_reznor> I'm involved with all aspects. I hired Roy Bennett to come up with the look, then I get involved with the integration and particulars. --when you are working on a song at what point do you know that you are done, without adding or taking away from it by continuing to tinker. trent_reznor> I used to have a really tough time letting go. Now I'm learning when it's time to have the courage to say it's finished. --The lyrics on the lyrical poster such as "message to no one" "the life you didn't lead" and "the warning" will these be songs that we'll eventually see released? trent_reznor> ? --Actually, when you're writing, do you have mental images that you translate into music, or does that depend on what you're working on at the time? trent_reznor> A lot of THE FRAGILE started as visual "places" I'd picture in my mind, then try to "dress the set" with sound. --trent: whats your fav. band right now? What kind of stuff are you into...whaqts your fav. band overall? trent_reznor> Right this second, Autolux. I LOVE their record and really enjoyed getting to see them play every night. I still don't know how they do what they do. --Who shot/edited the videos projected on the screen durring this tour? trent_reznor> Andrea Giacobbe did the films we show during ERASER and RWIB. Rob and I did the effect on BYIT. Roy Bennett designed the set, Martin Phillips programmed and designed the look, Alastair Watson operates and has embellished it as the tour has progressed. There ya go. That's all. |
Just wondering if anyones managed to pick up the re-issued version of "Pretty Hate Machine"? If so, any major changes from the original?
|
Neat interview, it's nice to see some questions answered (kind of?).
|
So what's this I hear of new versions of songs, or new songs from NIN?
Or did I read wrong up there? (not the interview) |
I saw them live at the Bell Centre in Montreal for free. My friend got me on the guest list.
I'm not a big fan, but the performance was very good. |
New north american tour dates for 2006 have just been announced! No Texas dates yet! but then again only the first half have been released. I'm sure more dates and cities will show up soon. Anway, so far they've got:

HOLY ****, NIN COMING TO MY HOMETOWN!!!!
I can't believe this is happening!!!!!! |
and want them to come back to europe :upset:
|
So looks like Josh Freese is back as NIN's temporary drummer. Just read on the hotline that their recently added drummer, Alex Carapetis, got the boot. How weird. Is it me just wishful thinking or is there a possibility of Dillon returning? Anyway, still waiting on those Texas dates!
|
wha? john freese... the same man who plays in qotsa? awesome... and yeah, dillon would be great.
|
Dillon will most likely never play with NIN again.
|
why not... any reason not to play with NIN again?
|
Seems like Josh Freese may be the new 'official' drummer now. People who attended last nights show said that Trent introduced him as the offical NIN drummer. Oh well. I like Freese. I've seen him twice before and never disappoints. On a different note: Texas dates finally! Heh. And I dont even have to travel...they're coming right here to Austin! WooHoo!
|
OH MY GOD
I just found out I may be going to see NIN live in February. They're actually coming to my hometown.    My dream is coming true. |
Josh Freese joining NIN? You guys should be more excited, we're talking about the A Perfect Circle drummer here!
*creams self upon hearing fills in The Package* Not surprising, his drumming on eMotive was rather industrial-ish. |
^Hell yeah, I'm excited about Josh Freese joining. I know it may seem otherwise but its just that for a whole minute there I had hope that Dillon would return. But anyway, getting tickets for the Austin show! Hopefully they'll have another meet and greet...I'd love to meet Mr.Freese, heh.
|
It's been ages since I've looked in here, and I return to get this wonderful news. I should look in more often :D
|

NIN just got nominated for a Grammy Award. Best Hard Rock Performance I believe.

Lets pull the Australian Artists thread out of the gutter. |
Lets pull the Australian Artists thread out of the gutter.
It should only be a couple of pages back, someone bumped it and I did a small thing on my local acts. |
NIN just got nominated for a Grammy Award. Best Hard Rock Performance I believe.
Heh, yeah, It'd be nice if they won, but this is what he had to say about the Grammys: "I'd like to officially say FVCK the grammys. Talk about out of touch. If you want to see why the record business is collapsing, look no further than the incredible lack of talent and innovation being celebrated on those lists. The grammys are NOTHING more than a popularity contest under the guise of having some importance." -Trent Reznor This was his response after being asked if they'd consider playing or attending the Grammys. |

The honor of that is lessened when you see all the other "artists" also nominated. |

I hope Freese gets the chance to pull off some mad fills with NIN, he alone rivals Martin Lopez in terms of unique and fitting fills.
I'll certainly feel good if Trent wins the Grammy, because it means he's getting recognition, but I won't think of it as an honour to him. It isn't an award for talent, it's an award for popularity. |
So it seems as if though we'll finally be seeing a release date for the CLOSURE dvd...finally! :naughty:
Should be great. It's suppose to include what was previously on the vhs set plus 90more minutes of extra footage, the Broken movie, footage from Woodstock '94 and Lollapalooza. And some other extra stuff! *impatiently waits for this one and Tool dvd*:p |
he hasn't released the closure dvd for so long, i doubt he will do it now in the near future... don't be so optimistic
|
"I THINK it's official, so I'm going to spill the beans here:
I'll be doing the DVD re-issue of Nine Inch Nails' 1997 Closure documentary and music video collection which, up until now, had only been available in VHS format. 95% of the work is already done, as I started it as a spec project almost a year ago. Right now, I'm just fleshing out some of the screens and adding more material provided by Interscope. [...] Right now, I'm just doing the menu design. However, there's a good chance I may be doing the cover art as well. I've already actually designed the cover, but I dunno if they'll use it or not." --Chad Michael Ward Ah, don't be so pessimistic. I just thought that post was good news. Maybe the dvd will finally see the light of day. |
hm... its even an official statement.
but why not BEFORE christmas :upset: grrr.... |
