^Well I have heard that some rock bands play the F-beat, which is the speed of what they make "love", so if the band members are young they usually play very fast an dwhen they get older they play slower.

I think Nicko has a good chance at being the best bassist as he did write the bass for new frontier (I know he wrote the bass for one of the songs on DoD, and when he played it to steve, steve said "do you want to play the bass on this song?").

And Nicko only used a double bass pedal on face in the sand.

ive seen maiden 5 times. They didnt get the greatest hits tour in the uk which was a big shame. It would be good to see them play 22 Acacia Avenue and Die with your boots on again.I think Steve Harris still has it,and Dave Murray is god

nafan 05-25-2004 09:54 AM

i wish i could have seen maiden, ive only actualy got into em since christmas and im hooked well and truely. just before chritmas a load of people went to see them and im relay anoyed i missed it. has any1 any clue when they are playing in britain again?

btoto 05-25-2004 12:24 PM

did you know that Nicko wrote New Frontier?
i read in Adrian's interview where he said that Nicko actually can play bass and he wrote the lead bass for New Frontier.

if they play again in the nearest future, its probbaly gonna be small gigs in britain..

FrailandBedazzled1979 05-25-2004 12:46 PM

they said they will still play many shows in support of an album, but no more lenghty tours. possibly a 20-30 date tour at most and a few festivals.

and Nicko was asked to play bass on "new frontier" but im sure most of the writing on it was done by Adrian and Steve.
its funny how if your a diehard Iron Maiden fan you can pick out who's playing what lead.
It's so true it's not even funny. You listen to Holy Smoke and you hear Janick's fast portion of the solo and then you hear something a tad slower and you go, "Hot **** that's Davey all right." I would take Adrian's solos than any of them only because he's probably got the most soul behind his guitar playing than the rest of them.

On to something different. Adrian's first guitar: purchased from Dave Murray (on account they grew up like...half a block from each other) and the action was two inches high off the bastard. The action on my guitar was that high until I reset it.

99% of the time I can work out who's playing the drums :)

yeah, Adrian admired Davey alot when he was first playing and Davey taught Adrian his first few chords and Adrain was most impressed with Davey's confisence he had in his playing, i think thats very admirable that Davey took Adrian under his wing and that him and Steve honored Adrian's decision to stay with his band Urchin, when they wanted him to play with them, i think we can all say that everything worked out brilliantly with the band :) what a great group of chaps!

ashman 05-26-2004 08:49 AM

well originally adrian joined steve and daves band (i think it was called gypsy kiss) and the only reason they let him in was that adrain was the singer, then he left to form urchin.

FrailandBedazzled1979 05-26-2004 12:33 PM

very true, i think Adrian's vocals on the B-side "reach out" are incredible. Hell, i like his voice more than Blayze's. :thumb:

GurS 05-27-2004 07:45 AM

having your voice liked more than blaze's isn't exactly a hard feat.

Photophobic 05-27-2004 09:38 AM

No, I think I could manage that.

aspartame kills 05-27-2004 10:10 AM

has any one played the iron maiden game?

The Clansman...secrets 05-27-2004 05:36 PM

No, I haven't. But I'm gettting it.

YDload 05-27-2004 06:37 PM

Here's a question that some of you might be able to answer. Whenever they play live, who does the backing vocals for Bruce in choruses like "Run to the Hills" or "The Trooper," or almost any other Iron Maiden chorus?

FrailandBedazzled1979 05-27-2004 09:59 PM

^^^

Steve and Adrian.

flappersack 05-28-2004 04:54 AM

The Backing Vocals in flight of icarus rock!!!

ashman 05-28-2004 05:11 AM

^yeh so does the backing on "out of the silent planet"

Ash

FrailandBedazzled1979 05-28-2004 01:14 PM

it clearly says in the album books (at least the older ones) "Steve Harris - bass and vocals" "Adrian Smith- lead guitar and vocals" lol

btoto 05-28-2004 03:32 PM

well, this might be old.....but anyway.....

I like Clive more, because of his very powerful hitting. Especially, Transylvania (spel?).
drums in that song are awesome. I don't think Nicko can play that way. I heard the live version of that song with Nicko, and he was horrible.... :(

FrailandBedazzled1979 05-28-2004 04:37 PM

^^^

Horrible...he plays it exactly like Clive did. i dont know what version you heard but ive never heard a bad version of Transylvania.

flappersack 05-29-2004 01:20 AM

I think Nicko does it fine. Hes easily my favourite out of the two.
Now,
Iron Maiden instrumentals, what do you think?
Losfer Words rocks!

Absinthe 05-29-2004 02:28 AM

Iron Maiden \m/
God I love this band. It's like, gotta be one of my all-time favs. One of the first I metal bands I ever got into back in the day *ok im not that old*

btoto 05-29-2004 09:06 AM

FrailandBedazzled1979
----------------------

I heard it from A Real Dead One. Nicko didn't do well with Transylvania(sp?). He pretty much ruined it. but it's just IMO. :)

---------------------
By the way, I agree with you about vocals by Steve and Adrian. but I don't think any of them could reach that note in the end of Aces High chorus. I think Bruce recorded it twice and then put together. what do you think?

FrailandBedazzled1979 05-29-2004 11:24 AM

part of the reason they dont play Aces High anymore is because Bruce cant even reach it lol, the air raid siren cant wont be shattering anymore glass globes in this lifetime lol. Steve is no vocalist but still chooses to sing on the songs, and Adrian is a great singer...listen to the b-side "reach out" where he sings, very talented singer. He was the vocalist in a band called "Evil Ways" that he was in with Davey before Iron Maiden.

PS: everything on "a real dead one" sounds bad :) not their best live album, Janick ruins alot of Adrian's leads IMO.

btoto 05-29-2004 01:58 PM

Well actually Janick always ruins Adrian's leads :) why does Janick always change solos during live performances? I think he changes it too much
-----------------
And I downloaded Reach Out (thanks to you Frail :) ^). Wow, Adrian is my favourite in the band, but I didn't know he had such a beautiful voice. I knew that he was a singer, .......wow I'm shocked :)
I liked his voice more than Blayze and Bruce.
Anyway, my favourite Maiden vocals is Paul. His voice is awesome

FrailandBedazzled1979 05-30-2004 02:50 AM

Paul is not a natuarlly gifted vocalist like Bruce is, but his agression and the way he carries the notes is what made his stay with Maiden so memorable. I like Paul's voice alot and it suited their more energy driven music in the early days, yet i simply can no immagine him singing anything that Maiden evolved into....thats where Bruce comes in. Both are vital to the sound that is Iron Maiden, yet Bruce's voice amazes me...one of my favourite vocalists. I like Adrian's voice more than Blayze for sure, he simply didnt sit to well with me. as far a Janick, i think hes one hell of a riff writer...but easily the third leg lead player. to sloopy for such a well polished band IMO, but what hes written for Iron Maiden is wonderful and i have no complaints other than his versions of Adrian's leads. If you'd like to check out Adrian's band he was in after Iron Maiden (before he re-joined) they are called "Psycho Motel" preety cool music, though i wish Adrian sung on it.

GurS 05-30-2004 09:35 AM

bruce can't do sanctuary nearly as well as paul did (IMO)

btoto 05-30-2004 02:09 PM

to Frail:

I know about Psycho Motel. I have Adrian's video guitar lesson. but I don't know where to download it, and I can't buy it from internet. I searched for the whole city I live in, But there is barely any metal CDs ! :(
