Kayetan 02-06-2007 07:05 PM

I don't really like Tortoise at all. Am something is wrong of me?

niobium 02-06-2007 07:29 PM

Did you listen to TNT?

If you don't like them after that, yes.

Kayetan 02-06-2007 07:36 PM

Yeah, I never really dug tnttbh

Zebra 02-06-2007 08:00 PM

Get that one other album of theirs....Millions Living or something like that. It's much easier to get into.

niobium 02-06-2007 08:33 PM

If you've heard both, how do they compare/which one is better? I'm about to download that one, all I've heard is TNT.

Kage 02-06-2007 08:35 PM

Millions Living is better, but not by a substantial amount. They're very different in atmosphere, and both are amazing in their own right.

Spiritofmosa 02-07-2007 07:26 AM

my friend and i like to refer to post rock as postman rock.

Kage 02-07-2007 08:28 AM

Woah-ho! I see what you did there!

Lol, Kage I love you.

I'm going to see Isis on March 27th, and I"m going to have to drive all the way to freaking Lawrence, KS to do it. That's like a 4 hour drive, and I don't exactly have the most reliable car. I'm gonna try my damndest though!

Concubine 02-07-2007 07:54 PM

Do it

Isis are godly live

bwnstl 02-07-2007 10:35 PM
Do it

Yeah. Clearing the Eye made me ruin like 5 pairs of pants.

I'm gonna go, it's just gonna money-fuck me (and I just have to hope my car makes the trip alive).

Dr. Jake Destructo 02-07-2007 10:38 PM

I plan on driving like 3 hours to see them. I'm not sure whether to go to Spokane, Seattle, or Portland though. They're all about equal distances.

Kage 02-07-2007 10:39 PM

Go to the one with the better venue.

Dr. Jake Destructo 02-07-2007 10:41 PM

Yeah that would make sense but I don't know anything about venues. How would I figure this out? I'm thinking the Spokane show will have the least number of rabid fans, so I might have a chance to meet Isis or something. That'd be schweet.

Kage 02-07-2007 10:42 PM

See if you can find pictures on the internet or something and see which ones have a sweet stage set up and cool lights or something.

Also, rabid fans are good because it kicks the energy up and you can feel the love in the room, y'know?

Dr. Jake Destructo 02-07-2007 10:43 PM

I'll bring the heat if necesarry. Maybe round up 3 friends, get I S I S painted on our chests, and J E S U on our backs or some lame crap.

And have I asked you about Zozobra before?

penelope weird hands 02-08-2007 02:05 AM

'Sup.
Sleepy that website is fookin' great. Thanks.

Been getting into Hella, Four Tet, Tera Melos, Russian Circles, Battles and Kayo Dot from the list, very awesome bands.

Are there any other albums/bands on that site that anyone thinks are essential to listen to(regardless of whether the links work or not)?
I'm quite the nub when it comes to these things, you see.

EDIT: Oh and Kayo Dot + Diablo II = winning

no propellers 02-16-2007 01:09 PM

Damn Dirty Apes, Threemovements, and Ochre are all very good, underappreciated bands listed on that blog. I'm glad you're liking it, though. When in doubt, just find a name that interests you and download it.

How is Hella, btw? I haven't heard them yet.

Hella is hard to get into, and a few of their releases are pretty damn terrible unless you're a big fan of noise. They're not post-rock at all, at least in the sense that this thread focuses on. I really love them though. Get Hold Your Horse Is to start off. It's a friggin masterpiece (although most people here would beg to differ).

I listen to a good amount of Drone and Ambient stuff, so it probably can't be all bad.

I'll take a look into the album you mentioned, thanks. :thumb:

Kage 02-16-2007 02:06 PM

Drone and Ambient with capital D's and A's, of course.

Sleepy 02-16-2007 02:07 PM

And kage with a lower-case k.

:)

Oh no, it's the opposite of ambient, if anything.

Biblical Violence, Ghost Dance, Brown Metal, and City Folk Sitting are the best songs, try them out first.

Believe me, you're probably gonna hate this on first listen, so keep an open mind.

I like noise, maybe I'd enjoy Hella.

Maybe.

Why don't we both download it, and lend our extremely elitist and unimportant opinions to mx so all can follow in our footsteps of musical taste?

:p

Moon Flavor 02-16-2007 02:19 PM

And then once again, I can be the only person on the boards who likes a certain band. Yay...

That's what you're getting yourself into...

Kage 02-16-2007 02:24 PM

This is the gayest song I've ever heard.

Good thing sleepy says your views are extremely elitist and unimportant. :)
