Too bad Non Phixion broke up.
N.W.A.

Hey, so apparently Andre from Outkast plays guitar now and is incorporating guitar into the music? This is pretty cool.
it's not really a new thing, Bombs Over Baghdad has a guitar solo, and Prototype is a guitar song.

Rise Me Up 08-09-2006 05:55 PM

I just realized that Straight Outta Compton is one of my top 10 albums ever.

Anybody listen to Jedi Mind Tricks? My favorite album is Legacy of Blood.

Cygnus Inter Anates 08-09-2006 08:12 PM
just realized that Straight Outta Compton is one of my top 10 albums ever.
I pretty much don't like that album.

The new OutKast single isn't that good.

Robert Crumb 08-09-2006 10:04 PM

"Morris Brown" is ok. But "Idlewild Blues (Don'tchu Worry About Me)" is a bit better.

For those keeping count so far:

Idlewild Blues > Morris Brown > Mighty O

Also, Andre himself hasn't been playing guitar that long. They've always used a guitar (comparatively) a lot but Andre's only started recording his own stuff since The Love Below. At least that's how I've heard.

Rams 08-09-2006 10:33 PM

So basically southern rap continues to have nothing going for it?

JonM 08-10-2006 01:13 PM

Go get hyphy and die.

Kaden 08-10-2006 01:40 PM

Am I alone in thinking that Morris Brown is a really good song?

Illmatic 08-10-2006 02:26 PM
I just realized that Straight Outta Compton is one of my top 10 albums ever.
Eh it's not that great.

I mean it's important but I don't ever listen to it anymore.
gice what are some, more ''harder'' rap in general, like angry

i need more of that in my rap

idk, i cant really explain it, maybe like ghost by 2pac, or something
Jedi Mind Tricks, specifically later stuff, since Vinnie Paz is apparently trying to sound more mainstream

Yea Morris Brown definantly gets better the more you listen to it. I wish Andre was in it though :-/

Kaden 08-11-2006 11:44 AM

I'm just now listening to the Mighty O, and I don't see why everyone's hatin. The second verse isn't that great, but Andre does an awesome job (and it's good to see him come back to rapping), and the hook is wicked catchy.

LF96 08-11-2006 12:38 PM

I heard Morris Brown for the first time today, and I kinda dig it. Pretty good track.

JonM 08-11-2006 01:00 PM

Dudes, the new Kast album is going to be incredible. Don't worry.

Add Geto Boys to that list

Not always really angry but if you like Tupac I think you'll like Geto Boys

Txus 08-12-2006 12:03 AM

Hey, I don't feel like going through 55 pages...so can someone recommend me about 5 to 10 essential albums to download to get into Hip Hop. I'm not into this genre like you can tell but I have 2 Snoop Dogg albums, 1 Dr. Dre and 1 Jurassic 5 album. Something along those lines would be good.

Thanks :)

The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest
The Message by Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five
Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) by The Wu-Tang Clan
'93 til Infinity by Souls to Mischief
Ready To Die by The Notorious B.I.G.
Straight Outta Compton by N.W.A.
Live at Future Primitive Sound Session by Cut Chemist & Shortkut

There's no formula for getting into any genre, so I tried to give a mix of different styles of hip-hop.

Txus 08-12-2006 12:43 AM

Thanks a bunch man. I'll look for those albums.

most definetly, thats one of the best hip hop albums that ive ever listened to

also, it would be good to add 3 Feet High And Rising by De La Soul to that list. definetly an essential hiphop album.
Dudes, the new Kast album is going to be incredible. Don't worry.
Seriously. They're keeping it way underwraps though, no leaks as far as I can tell. Gonna buy it either way, but... you know.

PECOAE 08-12-2006 05:18 PM

Danger Doom is out of this world.

JonM 08-13-2006 12:17 PM
Seriously. They're keeping it way underwraps though, no leaks as far as I can tell. Gonna buy it either way, but... you know.
I preordered that shi as soon as it became available. And I don't buy OutKast albums because they need the money, because clearly they don't. I buy OutKast albums because I love to see them go to number 1. It's like the Falcons winning the Super Bowl (like they're going to this year) or Braves winning the World Series (like they're most definitely not going to this year).

antiant 08-13-2006 03:25 PM

i've already seen leaks like a month ago for it...just a matter of finding it and or talking to the right people

Robert Crumb 08-13-2006 06:41 PM
i've already seen leaks like a month ago for it...just a matter of finding it and or talking to the right people
It seems to me that most major label releases always leak about two maybe three months ahead of time. So I guess that doesn't suprise me. I know the promo for the singles has been floating around for about that long.

But I usually don't try too hard to find these things, once they're out they spread pretty quick. Also, I heard another song from the thing, "PJ and Rooster." So maybe it has leaked.

Edit: Yeah, so apparently it did leak.

sexymuffin 08-14-2006 01:40 AM

so i've heard somewhere that jay-z doesn't write, but instead listens to his beat for a while and then just goes up, records, and then edits later.

any validity to this?

ATM 08-14-2006 08:18 AM

Not sure, but that's pretty cool if it's true.

My most rescent finds:

Talib Kweli - Kweli: Confidential Bootleg
Black Sheep - A Wolf In Sheeps Clothing
