That's when you know something has really got you. I can't do that unless I'm really compelled to. Those albums are few and far between. For me Quad was one, and Face Dances as well. Because Face Dances is how I got into The Who as a kid. When I was 15 it just sounded great to me. I still like that record a lot. I wrote a blurb about it. I was kind. :)

Lunch 04-23-2006 11:44 AM

It wasn't even something I thought about doing, it became a routine for those couple weeks. It was like "Oh, I'm home from school, so now I'll put on Tommy from LaL". That's only happened to me with a couple albums, ever.

Tommy has been with me for my whole life, literally. I was obsessed with it as a kid, even when I was a baby. My parents told me that I wouldn't go anywhere in the car without crying unless the Overture was playing.

BludgeonySteve 04-23-2006 11:48 AM

I prefer Quadrophenia to Tommy but I certainly obsessed enough over Tommy. Good times. I even tried playing pinball with ear plugs and a blindfold. Freaking tough.

Lunch 04-23-2006 11:49 AM

Of course it is. Not everyone can be a messiah.

Wow Lunch, you were born a Who fan, WTF? :amaze:

That's a great story. I was first widely exposed to them by Odds & Sods, of all albums. I just kinda went, "Hmm". I wasn't crazy about Now I'm A Farmer. I thought "what the hell"?. But they just grew on me like fungus, as they say. Then it was Face Dances and the film version of TKAA. That's what made it click. Pure insanity. I grabbed Quad and a Townshend solo album, and that was that. LAL, A Quick One, Who's Next. Hooked like a junkie. :(

Lunch 04-23-2006 11:53 AM

Yea, courtesy of my dad I've been listening to them forever.

JohnXDoesn't 04-23-2006 11:56 AM

Good thing you aren't a rebelilous son, then. If so you might be listening to Doris Day. :smash:

Lunch 04-23-2006 11:58 AM

I had nothing to rebel against. My parent's generation had already done all the necessary rebelling.
I had nothing to rebel against. My parent's generation had already done all the necessary rebelling.
These days it's fashionable to rebel against the rebellion. And then when that's over. rebel against that. I'd rather just chill, myself. :smoke:

For me, these days rebellion is getiing up a half hour late for work :-\

Lunch 04-25-2006 12:46 PM

We'll never be as awesome as the Who I guess.

/completely useless bump

BillyBonebrake 04-25-2006 12:59 PM

^No we will not, Lunch my good man. But I did break an acoustic guitar against a tree when I was 11.

Lunch 04-25-2006 01:00 PM

That's closer than I've ever come.

MidnightRider 04-25-2006 01:03 PM

I've got an old POS acoustic I got for free, next time I go to a party I'm gonna bring it and get someone to video tape me beating the hell out of it. I've always wanted to do that.

BillyBonebrake 04-25-2006 01:05 PM

Well get to it, man. I here they sell cheap guitars at Toys 'R Us. Very smashable.

You ever see those pics of Pete putting his guitars back together after a good smashing? Those are great. I love the stories of how they were smashing a lot more money in equipment then they were making money. That's funny as hell. "We made 200 pounds and owe 500", lol....

What'd you get banned for?

My friend let me break his Fender Squire when he got his Epiphone LP. I actually used a hammer for some of it. Broke the tuning pegs off and dinged up the body quite a bit. It's pretty freaking hard to break up an electric guitar.

BillyBonebrake 04-25-2006 01:09 PM
What'd you get banned for?
1 day for posting in a R&M "Beatles or Zeppelin" thread posted by a n00b. I had two posts and was banned by Superpeer, I believe. Riva or Jom wouldn't of done it. Well, maybe Jom would. But I doubt it.

Obviously Superpoop is unaware of my greatness, lol....:smash:

JohnXDoesn't 04-25-2006 01:20 PM

I'm back.

And yeah, Pink. It is tough to bust a guitar up. Those things are built sturdy. Even a good acoustic is up to a challenge. The bodies are incredibly strong.

JohnXDoesn't 04-26-2006 07:28 AM

Hey guys, did you hear the news?

Love ain't for keeping....:upset:

In all seriousness, though. Up bright and early and am listening to the Young Vic gig. I think this may be the best live version (or otherwise) of Pure And Easy I have ever heard. Roger handles the vocals great, especially up top. Really nice. :)

Ephemeral 04-26-2006 07:01 PM

I finally bought Quadrophenia, after having heard it before a few times.

I got it on sale. I call that a bargain. The best I ever had. :p

robo2448 04-26-2006 07:04 PM

Hey Lunch, do you know anything about American tour dates/when tickets go on sale yet?

pigonthewing82 04-26-2006 07:11 PM
Hey Lunch, do you know anything about American tour dates/when tickets go on sale yet?
I don't think so. I think the tour is going to be in the fall so maybe in the summer. I also heard that the Who are going to put out a 12 minute mini rock oprea. That should be intersting.

Lunch 04-26-2006 08:09 PM
Hey Lunch, do you know anything about American tour dates/when tickets go on sale yet?
No, the latest update I've seen covers the European dates, up to about the end of July. Everything I've heard says the US tour is scheduled to start in September.

robo2448 04-26-2006 08:12 PM

I guess that's good for me. I'll have college applications and all that stuff to do, but I'm going to be away all summer, so it's better that they don't come here until the fall.

I'm listening to Tommy now:cool:

np- The Acid Queen

Everytime I listen to this album I think of Moon playing Uncle Ernie in the movie. I really need to see that.

Good call man. On both counts.

I should buy a little guitar at Toy's R Us, and get someone to tape me smashing the hell out of it.

pigonthewing82 04-26-2006 08:27 PM

I really want to smash a guitar on stage. When I get a new guitar at my next show I plan on "retiring" my current guitar.

zabbit82 04-26-2006 08:35 PM

I think I could only smash a guitar at the end of a show after I played a Who cover, even if it was the one I would get at Toys R Us. Picture this, I'd play Won't Get Fooled Again with my band then at the end, I'd try to bash the hell out of it till the thing's in bits and pieces.

Man... that would be awesome...

Yeah actually if I had it my way I would want to smash it at the end of Won't Get Fooled Again. I really want to but I probally can't with the band I'm in. Were a Clash tribute band so I think the other members would want to stick to the Clash covers. Though there are plenty of Clash songs that are great instrument smashing songs. I would love to smash it at the end of Clash City Rockers or Know Your Rights.

Guitarist_ 04-27-2006 12:13 AM

i dont know much about the who but i recently got into them. my friend gave me the greatest hits (?) and i loved most songs. Are the who still doing tours? because they would have had to replace keith moon unfortunately...but neway i see european dates but do u think they will hit australia?

Seafroggys 04-27-2006 12:22 AM

replacing Keith Moon is WAY old news. How about replacing John Entwislte as well? Thats much more recent.

Guitarist_ 04-27-2006 12:45 AM

like i said i dont know much about the history of the band
