BludgeonySteve 10-10-2005 12:41 PM

Yay for Rush.

Maggot Dream 10-10-2005 06:39 PM

You guys have really let yourselves go, huh.

Anyways, does anyone have Exit...Stage Left? I need the live version of La Villa Strangiato off that, I've been curious to compare that version and the one from Rush In Rio.

TYPUNK 10-10-2005 06:54 PM

Rush did a very good version of summertime blues. They have their own style of music and as soon as you here a song by them you go hey this is Rush becasue of the amazing style they have. Neil Pert rules!

rockinbass17 10-10-2005 06:58 PM

I like the the new intro and outro that they put into that song. If it is a new part, I've never heard the actual original version but The Who's cover doesn't have that same intro/outro.

I'm pretty sure Eddie Cochran didn't write that intro, as far as I know that's solely Rush's addition to the song. Unless of course it was on another cover version of Summertime Blues, since hundreds of bands have done it.

No way, I love Hemispheres, probably my favorite album. Moving Pictures is awesome, but I think Hemispheres is more of a progressive work.

Yea im a huge rush fan in general.

iIve got everything they've every released including rare boots and videos. My collections huge haha.

Not only peart, but alex and geddy. What fantastic musicans, alex is such an underrated player too. He's one of those guys who always has something original to bring to the table, tasteful playing that never gets old.

And Geddy well... Just watch em live and see the greatness :) He does everything top notch. Sings,Synth,Bass Pedals,Bass everything dead on.

I've also seen rush 9 times throughout various tours.

I love A Farewell to Kings. The title track is growing to be one of my favorite songs at the moment.

Did you see their most recent tour? I missed it, but it got great reviews (not that I trust the critics or anything). I was sad.

Yeah, it's a great song/album. I always listen to A Farewell to Kings, Xanadu and closer to the heart all the way through. Those have to be the best 3 songs next to eachother in any Rush album.

*probably not, but meh

Xanadu is one of my favorites, especially the live version. Great dumming, awesome instrumental intro too.

Crazy lyrics, but that makes sense, since they're based on a poem written by a guy under the effects of drugs. Too bad he never finished it.

Double Bass Jim 10-13-2005 07:02 PM

Yep xanadu live is killer, the intro always gives ya a good feeling.

pohl_56 10-13-2005 07:53 PM

I didn't feel like going through the entire thread so I'm just gonna post. Sorry if anything here has been discussed already but oh well.

I picked up the Rush in Rio dvd a few months back not really knowing what to expect and have been totally hooked since. Neil Peart is perhaps one of the best drummers I have ever heard. Alex is amazing, and Geddy Lee has an amazing voice that I love. Their style of music is just awesome and after reading about Neil's recent struggles in life, they have forevr been engraved in my list of favorite bands. I would definately see them live if they would just go on tour again. Anybody know when/if that is gonna happen?

It's such a great poem, and, miraculously, Rush adapting it into a rock song worked really well and made a totally great song too.

thunderzstruck 10-14-2005 01:03 PM

What's the story behind Xanadu?
What's the story behind Xanadu?
"Xanadu" (it's not actually called Xanadu, that's just a name given to make it sound cool) was Kubla Kahn's summer home and where he chose to build his dome. He chose it because of the beauty of the land and the extremely fertile soil. A good part of the song it is taken from E.H Coleridge's poem of the same name.

*has researched this before*

Warning: the majority of Coleridge's poem is description! Not much actually happens.

Cain 10-15-2005 10:22 PM

Xanadu is also Kane's reclusive palace in Citizen Kane.

Awesome, I'd read about it before but I've never actually read the whole poem.

BludgeonySteve 10-16-2005 07:02 PM

Possibly the best intrumental intro in rock music, I think. What with Geddy on moog and Peart's drumming. And the guitar riffage.
