DUDE!!!

The other night, I had this dream-

Every night, I'd hear really loud Sum 41 music outside. Of course, I had no objection. One night, I went out to see who/what it was. Sum 41 drove by in a little blue car. I chased them down. They got out, and I said that I play bass. They went to my house to see/hear me play.
That's all I remember.

Then, today, my band had band practice. I got my amp and bass and stuff, and went out on the front porch to wait to be picked up. I walked out the back door, and I was going to the driveway towards the front of the house, a guy drove buy in a jeep, blasting Fat Lip!! It took me a second to realize what that meant. When I realized it, I'm like "Oh ****!!" then I ran down the driveway. I had my bass and amp and a pop and a PSP, so I didn't go very fast. Unfortunately, the guy drove away before I could see who it was.

That sucks for you, but is awesome that crap like that actually happens, but the guys are in Europe right now...so, I don't think you would have had much luck meeting the guys....and, if I ever met them I'd force them to make me an eternal groupy...mosh

Heyloo guys 'n' girls. Thank GOD there is actually a thread for Sum 41. One thing really bugs me about the band: NOBODY SEEMS TO LIKE THEM!!! This is immensely irritating for me, as they were (along with The Offspring and Limp Bizkit) one of three main bands that got me REALLY into Rock music in the first place. I think they're great.

My fav album is probably "Does This Look Infected?", probably because I prefer heavier rock stuff. I also think the band's uncommon mix of Metal and Punk was pretty admirable on this album, as I like some stuff from both genres. However, I do think that at times it sounded like a punk rock band trying to be metal, and I suppose in a way it sorta was... this sounded much more apparent on "Chuck", which is in my opinion the band's worst album to date. This doesn't mean I think it's crap - I don't - but I think "...Infected" caught them at their best.

Also, is it just me, or is "The Bitter End" a complete Metallica rip-off??!! That intro is oddly reminiscent of "Blackened", and most of the rest of the song - ESPECIALLY the chorus - is a pretty accurate clone of "Battery". So much so that Derek manages to perfectly replicate Hetfield's savage growl of "BAT-TE-RY!!!" in his version, "BIT-TER--END!!!".

But this aside, I am genuinely a fan of Sum 41. Without them, I probably would not be the avid rock-consumer that I am today.

First off I'd like to welcome you to our thread good little n00b, in this thread you will not be criticized, insulted, or anything else, we value your opinion and we would like to hear what you have to say, in case you don't already know, this thread is basically my home base, it's almost the only place I post anymore. As long as I'm still on this site there will always be at least one Sum 41 Thread out there.

DTLI? was definitely some cool crap, but Chuck wasn't their worst album, they don't have a worst album, sorry, where I value your opinion I don't think that you are quite right about this. Sorry if I offended you by saying that.

Yes, we've all heard that The Bitter End is a remake of Battery, and personally, we don't care anymore, this just proves to us that they are getting more talented and more able to right like bands that others like already, GO SUMS!!!

I would also be nothing without them, they are basically my life. I love these guys.

Bad Blood 07-02-2005 04:08 AM

I really like Sum41, i think DTLI was an awesome album. When i first got it, it was all i could listen too. Also i think Chuck is a good album, its a bit of a change but i think its good. They have a good 'variety' of music, its awesome.

chumpradio 07-02-2005 06:14 AM

I'm seeing them on Wednesday.
I really hope that they don't play much from Chuck, I honestly thought it was a terrible album with only a few good songs.

PuNk 07-02-2005 01:58 PM

Going back to the original topic....Sum 41 is the greatest rock band EVER!!!!! I love all of their songs...and in particular the entire CD of All Killer No Filler. Indeed their variety is alot more interesting than most bands.

Well, since it's the Go Chuck Yourself tour I can't say that your "hope" will come true, but I swear to you that it won't matter if you like the song they're playing or not, you'll have fun at their live show...you have my complete word

dude, I'm only going to say this once, Simple Plan and Sum 41 fucking hate each other, you should know that

Unwritten Law and Sum 41 toured with each other for mulitple months already, it was awesome, I saw it live.

I don't think MCR and S41 would have an easy time getting the same audience members.....

don't ever say N E wayz again or I will shoot you :D, just a fair warning, and please, refrain from ever hitting your Caps Lock button again for that length of time

other than that, welcome to the S41 thread, I hope you come back again

precisely what I mean

TheBassicBassist 07-02-2005 05:44 PM

I got the DVD Introduction To Destruction finally and the London, Astoria concert is so much cooler unedited than it is edited from DTLI? because in the edited version they cut out the entire song Handle This because there's two girld kissing the entire song, stupid...Anyways, this really hot chick with giant breasts flashes Dave in the Fat Lip Video Outtakes and he has a size contest with her, I thought it was hilarious

obojon 07-03-2005 07:08 AM

why do simple plan and sum 41 hate each other?
why do simple plan and sum 41 hate each other?
Sum41 are a good rock and roll band, and simple plan are pop and give canadians a bad name?

Ive been listening to old sum41 a lot recently, and it pwns Chuck so much, that album sucks compaird to DTLI. DTLI is there best theyve done, is so awesome. I stoped listening to it though, as my cd is a bit broke.

chops 07-03-2005 09:44 AM

i like all their albums equally.

BassPlayer222 07-03-2005 10:21 AM

id have to say:

AKNF>DTLI>HHOP>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Chuck

mainly because AKNF was the album that got me into punk and punk pop and just good music in general, DTLI is pretty close musically but it usually wont fit every mood im in, but is a great album. HHOP was a great album for such young kids they were at the time but im glad they improved, and finally i hate the new Rock and Metal Sum 41 so Chuck is by far the worst. IMO

TheBassicBassist 07-03-2005 12:32 PM
why do simple plan and sum 41 hate each other?
because one is a gay preppy poser bitch group (simple plan, I still like them, but that's what they are...

and one is an amazing group with complicated parts and amazing songs...

besides, SP complains too much

I have nothing to say for this, you've never said anything like this about Sum 41 before, very odd of you

same here man, I like everything they've ever done, DVD's, CD's, Video's...everything

Bad Blood 07-03-2005 12:36 PM

DTLI is an awesome album. And i agree with it being their best album.
But still i think all the albums are all almost equally as good, i just think that DTLI stands out a bit more. Song are more varietied.
okay, first off, wtf is IMO????
In My Opinion

BassPlayer222 07-03-2005 12:40 PM

IMO= In My Opinion

and i hate Chuck so much becuase i hate most metal, and in Chuck they almost completely lose there punk pop side, which is the part i love most about them. Does this look infected still had that punk pop sound mixed into the rock. Chuck for the most part doesent. Thus i hate Chuck.

TheBassicBassist 07-03-2005 12:40 PM

as far as variety in different kinds of songs Chuck wins, but DTLI is second very closely, AKNF was okay as far as variety goes, but HHOP was either metalish harder stuff or pop-punk, not too much variety what so ever

Bad Blood 07-03-2005 12:41 PM

yeah, i like Chuck a lot too because of that reason. I havent had much chance to listen to theirold stuff.
