A Change of Pace 5 Days Ahead A Dead Giveaway Wings of Azrael Dear Whoever After The Tragedy
If I didn't quote, it means I've never heard anything by them. If I did quote, it means they aren't emo or screamo. (The other bands probably sound similar to the ones I quoted, so they people aren't emo or screamo either) |

Purevolume is horrible with genres. Hell, I've seen a band that said "Hip Hop/Emo". Really, don't trust them when they say emo or screamo. There's that whole thing about people not knowing what the hell they're talking about when it comes to emo and screamo. http://www.purevolume.com/circletakesthesquare - That says screamo too. Does it sound much like the bands on your list? No. CTTS is screamo, though. |
Soo, umm
Could I get some recommendations? I already like a lot of emo/screamo bands, but you can never have enough, right? I like: Reach Out Angel Hair Heroin Clikitat Ikatow Indian Summer Mohinder Merel Black Castle Die, Emperor Die! *looks for torn* |
Song Of Zarathustra.
|
Deathhawk, look at the first post Dfelon made in this thread. It's on the first page.
|
Is Quicksand an emo band? They have the emotional hardcore thing goind but they might just be a post-hardcore band.

I've heard all of those but for like 2. I was wondering what torn had to say since he knows more about specific things, like San Diego or Bay Area emo. Which is kinda what i'm interested in. |
Well anyway, whatever genre A Dead Giveaway is, im definately liking them. I guess its more like pop something or other but i really like their sound.

Nooooooooo dude, indie. |
Song Of Zarathustra.
Not really the best of recommendations, considering the examples DeathHawk listed. |
Reach Out
Angel Hair Heroin Clikitat Ikatow Indian Summer Mohinder Merel Die, Emperor Die! *looks for torn*
Great!! Embassy - Put out a 7" on Repercussion, Indian Summer's label, it was later repressed by some other label. Also put out an LP on Outer Universe Research. Lp is AMAZING. Also various comp tracks: Ghost Dance 2x7", Eucalyptus 2x7", Food Not Bombs 12".... The Hated - Basically one of the pioneers, but realllly awesome. Put out so much.. most notable releases: 'Every Song' Lp, 'What Was Behind' Lp. Inkwell - GREAT stuff, mix between Indian Summer and Heroin.. just passion passion passion passion. The 'Shine So Bright' 7" is definitely worth tracking down, one of my favourite releases ever. They also did an s/t 7", a track on the 'Placebo' 7" comp, also containing Reversal of Man and a split 7" with the Hal Al Shedad. SUPER live. Shotmaker - 'Nuff said. Loads of records, loads of anger, bla bla bla. Current - Pretty good stuff, just your text-book style emo, really. 'Coliseum' Lp, s/t 7" and split with Chino Horde on Council Records. Split 7" with Indian Summer on Repercussion or something, comp tracks include Food Not Bombs 12" etc. Also way more: Shroomunion - have male and female vocals, bit more dissonant, innocent and stuff. Maximillian Colby - One of THE text-book emo bands. Looong build-ups, climax. Great!! Hoover - See Max Colby, just a little more 'rock' and speed to it, maybe. NEWER BANDS::: Toru Okada - Emo, great, sincere, hopeful and hopeless at the same time. Sinaloa - Little more off-kilter, dissonant. Shorter songs, GREAT vocals. Wolves - Arty hardcore, pretty fast, lots of diverse influences. Vida Blue - See Sinaloa, but more off-kilter and dissonant still. There are always more, I'll get back to ya. I'm CutsLikeDrugs on SoulSeek if you're looking for any of this stuff. Maximillian Colby |
torn if you see someone called cutpaperwings downloading hundreds of songs off of you, that's me. :thumb:
What Bay Area emo?
The Bay area in Calfornia, by SF. There was a big scene there about a decade ago that while overshadowed by SD scene, still produced a lot of stuff. |
Also, thanks a lot torn, I'll check those out. Probably look for some at some distros at upcoming shows here.
Mad props to you. |
I like them but they're not screamo or emo.
what are underoath then??? |
Pop-punk/metalcore
|
how are they pop punk ive heard some of their old and new stuff and they dont sound poppy at all
|
Their new stuff is incredibly poppy. Their old stuff was like black metal/metalcore. The new stuff is generic pop-punk with screaming.
|
Reinventing your exit is kinda poppy during their chorus but thier other songs aren't, maybe I need to listen to the lyrics more cafefully
|
No, the entire album is poppy.
|

Music shops in Holland are pretty shit. Or I'm just not looking properly...
How long does everyone here usually look around in a music shop? In a decent one I usually look around for about 30-45 minutes. I would/want to look for longer but usually my friends/parents want to leave. |

emo
hey tornpictures, are you leftovercrack on the modern rock board? no one posts there anymore.
|
Thats cool that i got mass negative rep for talking about Bay Area emo, but thats ok
Reach out came from there and a lot of early emo bands, which, I dont exactly know, that is why I was asking torn. All I do know is that there was a big scene there when Heroin blew up and 1293430 bands started playing because of them. |
how are they pop punk ive heard some of their old and new stuff and they dont sound poppy at all
he is just saying they are pop-punk because that is what dfelon says. its safe to say they aren't emo or screamo by the definitions in this thread (although a lot of people you meet in real life will probably consider them screamo). they just seem like a softer, more accessable version of hardcore/metalcore these days to me, but its not that big of a deal anyway. whatever people decide the music they make is called, i will still like them. change of subject...i finally got planes mistaken for stars newest cd, and a lot of the songs definitely have a different sound from their other cds i have. i personally liked their older stuff better, but who knows, maybe the new stuff will grow on me. anyway, do they still fit into you guys definition of emo? |
Wait torn you lived in Berkeley right? Can you give me a bio of my Bay Area emo heritage? I'm really excited about these things I didn't know. The only bands I know are the current Redwood City ones and Under a Dying Sun from HMB who aren't even emo. Poop. Can you file transfer me stuff on the AIM? Pleeeeease.
What's your AIM? I'm really not in a school mood right now. |

Kind of like Pg. 99. |
