What you do is:
-you take the awesome stuff,
-make awesome music,

Stay in school, kids. The more you know, the further you go.

Hey I'm this guy, and like to come over to neighbours houses and make bizarre enquiries about everyday phenomena.

gaslight 02-28-2010 01:46 AM

I dunno man I wouldn't call Raayl's vocal tracking an everyday phenomena.

Maybe your neighbours are different to mine though.

Did he borrow a saucepan?

Epidemechanical 02-28-2010 03:05 AM

the song im doing actually has a lot of melodic singing in it so it probably sounded like an american idol audition

although he came up during the screaming bit (as anybody who complains does)

silly humans

Epidemechanical 02-28-2010 03:06 AM

there was a certain hostility in his voice though, like he wanted to say 'stfu youre annoying' but my charm and charisma and the fact i was holding an adorable kitten in my arms made him reconsider

and yes, i purposefully grabbed the cat before i answered the door in attempt to subtle manipulate his mood

gaslight 02-28-2010 03:15 AM

I wish I had an adorable kitten around. Well, apart from you that is :).

gaslight 02-28-2010 03:15 AM

...bwahaha, creepy ****.

:smoke:

fatbandit 02-28-2010 02:38 PM

So... I'm afk for 3 weeks while we go record in this converted farmhouse in the countryside. Gonna be awesome ^_^ Don't think I'll have net access up there, so just thought I'd say bye ;p

:amaze: 02-28-2010 06:24 PM

have fun with that.

how much are you recording that you are taking 3 weeks? Or is that including production and whatnot?

Spaceman Spiff 02-28-2010 11:51 PM

My band is covering Hush by Tool for our next show. It's such an awesome song.

Even if you're not serious.

It's an album. Three weeks for recording and mixing. Mastering's being done after that time. That's not a long time for an album though really. Want it to be spot on, cuz it'll be in shops like all over the world D:

Spaceman Spiff 03-01-2010 12:43 AM

My friends and I made a snow sculpture last night. It's a giant snake eating a snowman. It came out pretty awesome.

How very, Calvin and Hobbes.

gaslight 03-01-2010 01:02 AM

Three weeks is a nice amount of time to not be rushed in.

Guitars and vocals always take forever compared to drums and bass. Drums for an album can be done comfortably inside of 2 days, bass in 1 day, then guitar always has so many sounds to go through, especially if lots of effects get used, overdubs on top of all that. Vocals are time consuming also. Even bass can take ages you depending on how much you look to change your EQ and set-up between songs.

It's good to be really picky when you're doing a serious effort though, there's no use in being able to tell everyone how quickly something got done if it isn't a good product.

Exactly. He pretended he was being eaten by the snake, though. We actually built a snowman inside the snake's mouth.

the grace of the lord be with you all

FunkMetalBass 03-01-2010 09:04 AM

Man, I spent almost an hour last night working up my speed. My left hand was physically sore running scales after that amount of time. Can't say I've actually gotten a physical workout from my instrument in a long time. It's probably something I should start doing.

Convectuoso 03-01-2010 04:02 PM

Start lifting weights, playing bass is nothing once you get into it lol.
Start lifting weights, playing bass is nothing once you get into it lol.
Yeah maybe if you do separate excercises for each finger...

Convectuoso 03-01-2010 05:47 PM

I find my forearms get more (if any) pain than my fingers..

gaslight 03-01-2010 06:33 PM

You can use a lot of the same principles for practising bass as for weight training. Instead of isolating muscles you isolate a finger or two, or a mental concept. It's heaps of fun when you're in touch with your playing enough to know exactly what you want to work on, then you can come up with exercises tailored exactly to your goals. It's just the best fun.

The callouses from weights rip up your hands a lot more though. If you're gonna do both in a day definitely do bass first.

BenJammin 03-01-2010 08:01 PM

Playing bass isn't any effort at all. Maybe some of you guys don't play enough.

gaslight 03-01-2010 08:13 PM

I didn't say it was a big physical effort.

Though it actually is, if you're a young kid just starting or whatever. They have a really rough time trying to get down the left hand basics that the rest of us full-growns take for granted.

BenJammin 03-01-2010 08:28 PM

My ME-50B died. So I bought a distortion pedal.

This is a great vid for a collection of youtube's failed humans
