well the majority of their fans wish they would return to thrash, so if they do it to please their fans it would constitute a definition of selling out.

Thus, I am owned.... Unless THEY want to return to thrash. :) |

Unless THEY want to return to thrash. :)
that is of course one of the problems with declaring a band sold out. No one actualy know their personal reasons for doing so, thus they can't really say shit about it. |
Umm, next topic, Hmm....
Who has better guitars (aestheticaly), James or Kirk? Sorry, just bored... |
Just to clear up on thing for all/most Metallica fans, a good song does *NOT* need a guitar solo. I have always found that Metallica fans worship their solo, and think any song without one is crap.
Not that I don't like Metallica. Master of Puppets is an amazing album. The Four Horseman, Leper Messiah, Orion and ...And Justice For All are my fav songs. |

My point being.

what are some easy song to play that sound really kick-***
I love 80s metallica and have the tab book form Rid the Lightning and was just wondering what other songs I could pick up quickly and learn. I really like getting into the songs when I play them! |
Master of Puppets
Have fun! |

Those are my favorite songs to play off of each cd up to the Black Album (which I do not like very much). |

Doesn't St Anger have no solo's on it. Not sure that's what my guitarist said. He's a mettallica freak. We play Sad but true in our band, but i wanna play more now that i've seen their "cunning Stunts" dvd, especially "for whom the bell tolls". |

There are NO solos on ST.Anger, your guitarist is correct. Some more easier and fun songs to play would be: Enter Sandman, For Whom The Bell Tolls, The Thing That Should Not Be, Eye Of The Beholder, Fuel, Of Wolf And Man, Nothing Else Matters. |

Blackened, Damage.Inc, Four Horsemen, Master Of Puppets, Battery...
I guess. I don't really consider them all that hard though with the exception of a few parts. Although, I didn't really take the easy part into consideration as much as the sounding "kick-***" part. Sorry. |
I think it's funny when people dislike st. anger for having no solos on it. granted, most of the songs on there are below par, and just plain boring (title track). but there are some songs that I think are pretty catchy, even if it is simple songwriting
|
A lot of people count on solo's too much these days, as do the bands. IMO they're over-rated. I don't see skill of a guitarists through how fast they can shred up and down a fretboard (although I am always hopeful to see Hammett light his guitar on fire and play with his teeth :D ), but I always listen for the main riff's and chorus. Without a good riff, Hammet can do any solo and I still won't get into the song as much as I would if it had a killer MOP style riff. Even if Kirk layed down a "Dyers Eve" style solo in St.Anger, how many of you can say they would like that song any better??

123 to everything but that. I'd like it better, but in my opinion it would still suck, badly I might add. Mainly because of the main riffs, and everything else about the song, but also because the solo wouldn't fit at all. I'd only like it better because he at least put the effort in to have a good fast solo. |
i was reminded why i like i disappear today
that song rocks |

Cheers mate!! I'll suggest some of those songs. Although i'm not really into the re-load album but fuel is an exception :thumb: |
It's so true! St. Anger was so bad not even Kirk Hammett could save it. However at least a couple of attempted solos might've diverted our attention from the crappy songwriting. It just seems as tho Kirk wasn't even a part of the band during the recording. I mean, what the hell is the point in 2 rythm guitars??

This is because Lars convinced him that guitar solos are dead and that they would get more money if they played nu metal.

The only dead thing is the sound of Lars' drums on that album. Edit: Oh, and decent Metallica. IMO |
I don't know why they thought they'd be more successful by sounding like everybody else seeing as how MOST (not all) "Nu Metal" bands sound the same.

My iPod was on shuffle today. I was listening to this song, and totally was into it. I felt like just going all out in public. I had no idea what it was. I looked at the iPod and it said "Metallica - St. Anger"
I was shocked and now I realise that just because it's Metallica and it was highly anticipated and all that doesn't mean it's a bad song/album. |
To clear up something, Whiskey In The Jar is a cover of the Thin Lizzy song
True, but the Thin Lizzy song is a cover of an Irish folk song (and shame on the people that thought it was country/americana...) |

Ya it didn't seem very well produced did it? Kinda had a dirtier sound to it. I dunno, maybe that's what they were goin for, kind of a raw/live feel. Whatever it was it didn't work for them.

Yes, the drums were tuned like ****, and the complete lack of solo's just seemed un-holy for a Metallica album. I've given my opinion on St. Anger a few times already in this thread, but the main point of it is.. Even though I, and many other people, don't like it, it was still a good album. If it weren't made by Metallica, many people would have liked it, but, it was made by Metallica. Compared to anything else they've made, it pretty much sucked. |

I saw them too. They did indeed own hard. I think I was referring to their studio ****, because I don't see why I would say they aren't decent anymore... I probably didn't make it very clear. I am pretty tired. Oh well, the idea made sense in my head. :) |
