Aphex Twin - Richard D. James Album

4 is sex.

YDload 04-10-2006 05:26 PM

Keep It Like A Secret is great, what are you talkin about? "Carry The Zero" and "Broken Chairs" rock.

ATM 04-10-2006 08:12 PM

Carry the Zero makes me stop and think every time I hear it.

Anyway, Deftones - White Pony is a lot better then I thought it was.

BillCosby 04-10-2006 08:29 PM

The Beatles - Rubber Soul

More specifically, "Michelle". Oh man.

Little Man being Erased 04-10-2006 08:49 PM

Talking Heads - The Name of This Band is Talking Heads

Again. God, I love it.

YDload 04-10-2006 08:53 PM

I haven't listened to a lot of Deftones, I guess they just bore me. Or maybe Linkin Park has forever ruined the dynamic they use of "choruses consisting of one chord held forever and a scream, with quieter verses in between."

pixiesfanyo 04-10-2006 08:54 PM

Get White Pony and listen to it a few times. It'll eventually grow on you alot.

I know it.

I've been digging Talib Kweli since I found out he's coming here in a week.

pixiesfanyo 04-10-2006 08:58 PM
Maybe I'm fucked but stuff like "Be Quiet and Drive" could almost be a louder version of Ride or something
There is alot of weird genres hidden in the Deftones. It's what has made them acutally last this long I think.

YDload 04-10-2006 09:04 PM

Well hell, I liked the first Korn album when I was in 9th grade, so liking stuff from the founders of nu-metal is definitely not unheard of for me.

However, isn't their song "My Own Summer (Shove It)" similar to Filter's "Hey Man Nice Shot?" I mean, there's that one riff and of course the big scream in the chorus.

Robert Crumb 04-10-2006 09:17 PM

Deftones are probably derivative in some ways, especially when it comes to their older material. But I like them. Old habits die hard. I'd posit that they're definitely more versatile than most of their peers, though.

I was listening to the new Morrissey earlier today (another Deftones influence.) It's pretty boring. But I was under the impression Ennio Morricone was dead. So that's nice to know.

Glitterati 04-10-2006 09:22 PM

I'm digging The Queen is Dead today, speak of the devil. This album always cheers me up.

I was never really huge on them, but I kept listening to White Pony ever so often and it got better and better.

The Great Decay 04-10-2006 10:22 PM

The Pixies

I haven't listened to these guys in a very, very long time.

Tangy zizzle 04-10-2006 10:51 PM

Little Man being Erased 04-10-2006 11:00 PM

Those bands must all be side projects and off shoots of each other, right?

YDload 04-10-2006 11:14 PM

No they just aren't very creative when it comes to band names. Well, the first guys were, but everyone just wanted to be like them even though half of them had never eaten expired butter

EDIT: For some reason, that list looks like an exchange of dialogue from Seinfeld.

Bob Dylan - The Times They Are A-Changin'

Queens of the Stone Age - Lullabies to Paralyze

I'm starting to think this is better than Songs for the Deaf.

Ornery Cephalopod 04-11-2006 11:44 PM

It's been another post-y metal diggage period.

First, that one Spaceboy album with the long name that was mentioned a few pages back. It's neat, I'm glad it was mentioned.

Next, a big diggage for Rwake. They're neat.

And finally, I'm about to put on Minsk. They're neat, although a bit on the generic/unremarkable side for this whole post- thingy. But still neat and still enjoyable.

obese_breasts 04-11-2006 11:55 PM

I usually post in punk but since my increase in indie listening I believe a post in here is needed.

Mogwai - Mr. Beast
Calexico - Convict Pool EP
Fugazi - 13 songs
Calexico + Iron and Wine - In the Reins

Clunge 04-12-2006 02:17 AM

Oceansize - Everyone Into Position
Graham Coxon - Love Travels At Illegal Speeds
Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun
Secret Machines - Ten Silver Drops

Yeah. It's pretty good, I wish they'd sing more though.

JonM 04-12-2006 09:51 AM

I just had computer sex with another jazz head, so I'm digging Art Blakey, Ahmad Jamal, Charlie Hunter, and lots of other things.

Can anybody tell me whether or not I should buy the new Calexico record? I've got one album of theirs that I really like, I've seen them live and thought they were amazing, but I haven't really explored their recorded works, and I heard the new one was accessible but good. Any thoughts?

ATM 04-12-2006 10:24 AM

If you like what they did with Iron and Wine, buy it.

Daniel! 04-12-2006 12:01 PM

The two new Mission of Burma songs have been keeping me happy.
