You know Ian is right. Dumb terms like "grunge" and "emo" can lick my ass for all I care, and it makes me REALLY mad when people have to dwell into it. Why should those words be associated with music? It's cool to label something by a particular name just to sound smart like you're some sort of elitist? No, it's not, and you can learn if you JUST ACCEPT THAT LABELING MUSIC IS STUPID. Ian was right about what he said you know.
thats not what he meant. labelling music is necessary for objective descriptive purposes. mackaye's only qualm was with inaccurate labels |
i am sick and tired of your whining complaining bitching and moaning!
|
mackaye's only qualm was with inaccurate labels
I know, I was blowing off some steam. Stuff like that I didn't even mean. |
huh
I know, I was blowing off some steam. Stuff like that I didn't even mean.
i kinda figured that but its such a common argument that i might as well throw out my thoughts too |
Minor Threat > Fugazi > The Evens. Each band gets progressively more appealing to old people (aka above 25 crowd).
All three are super gnarly fantastico, but completely different. Cool stuff. I think Ian Mackaye is sorta silly though. |
where does Embrace fit into all this
also you're wrong |
Fugazi > Minor Threat
|
where does Embrace fit into all this
also you're wrong
The greater than symbols were not meant to be interpreted as my idea of which band was better than which. Just indicating the chronological order. I'd probably say Fugazi > Evens = Minor Threat if I had to do it that way. I like them all a lot though. But for different reasons. I've never listened to Embrace. |
yea fugazi is definitely better than minor threat
and i would say i like minor threat more than the evens and ive never listened to embrace either so yea |
The greater than symbols were not meant to be interpreted as my idea of which band was better than which. Just indicating the chronological order.
ohhhhhhhhhh well Embrace was between Minor Threat and Fugazi. and if you want to get technical you've left out MacKaye's very first band the Teen Idles too.
and ive never listened to embrace either so yea
what? i thought you joined us when we were just posting a bunch of Embrace lyrics not too long ago? i guess i cant tell you apart from catfishjones or mote then. i dunno. but you MUST listen to Embrace you will love them |
Upload some Embrace plox.
|
plox?
and alright i'll check them out what shoud i get? |
lol
Embrace only has one album. its self-titled and if you check last.fm MAKE SURE you arent listening to the Britpop band by mistake. the embrace tracklist is this: 1. Give Me Back 2. Dance of Days 3. Building 4. Past 5. Spoke ... 14. Last Song |
ian mackaye should sue that british band for stealing their name
|
check your rep poopie ;)
omg Bad Brains S/T is available on sordo. ive been waiting for this |

Yeah, I guess I'll look into Embrace. I know about the Teen Idles, but never ever listen to them, so didn't even mention them. |
Sordo has tons of Acid Mothers Temple **** all of a sudden. Awesome.
|
Are they worth listening to (AMT)? If so, what album do I pirate first?
|
yes they are definitely worth listenning to
where to start is a difficult question though i am no help |
Get Up And Go would be a good song to start with. That's the first I heard from them.
|
check your rep poopie ;)
omg Bad Brains S/T is available on sordo. ive been waiting for this
The people in Bad Brains are homophobic. |
Damn, all this talk of Fugazi has made me want to expand my collection. As it is I've only got their first three albums. Also I should probably check out Embrace, I guess.
|
check your rep poopie ;)
omg Bad Brains S/T is available on sordo. ive been waiting for this
it worked thanks a lot man i'm listening now, on the first song. sounds exactly like halfway between minor threat and fugazi. so cool. does the band have totally different members from both bands? because the whole sound is pretty consistent. just as a guess though, it sounds to me like a different drummer from both minor threat and fugazi.. thats my only guess hey also everyone, my second show is tomorrow afternoon so later on today i'm going to start planning out my playlist. with all this new mackaye going on in my life, maybe i'll have a mini-marathon, featuring songs from all of his projects (i guess i'll have to get teen idles) and have some of his best songs going chronologically... that would be cool huh? but other than that i'm totally up for suggestions from any of you guys (much of my taste in music can be attributed to thsi community in the first place). but if i'm gonna do this mackaye marathon (which i want to) then i suppose i shoudl have some other punk / hardcore to go around it so yeah edit: oooh hey i got an idea maybe i'll have a DC theme tomorrow... i could pretty easily cook up around an hour of music from the DC area. rites of spring.. bad brains ... medications / faraquet .. and not just punk and all. i mean i guess i could even play some of my music. i suppose as an artist from the DC area i count.. but yeah if you guys could suggest some DC bands of any style, i'd really appreciate it. unfortunately i can't do a whole show of it because i have a capita of music to pick from the rotation bin and play.. which will add up to about 40 mins of my 90 mins so i could play all rotation first in a block. edit: okay i know this is a massive post but listening to embrace for as long as i have now, i've started to realize it sounds like ian mackaye has a lisp here.. |
Play something by Black Eyes...
|
oh theyre from DC? awesomeeee will do, thanks man! i like them and know that WUVT has their cd. i'm thinking i'll play someone has their fingers broken... i think that's my favorite on the cd but ill listen to some of it again now
|
They have another album and an EP too which you might wanna check out. I think the S/T is the best though.
Also, you could play some Q and Not U. Wow, DC has great music. |
Its because of the high percentage of black people.
