Crysiss 05-15-2006 11:47 AM

Even on Opeth albums, Steven still sings.

I didnt like that Steven didnt work with the 'peth with GR:(

Hevy Tred 05-15-2006 11:47 AM

Growling? Singing? Whos doing what and how.

(Im interested now :))

Crysiss 05-15-2006 11:50 AM

I kind of doubt that there are going to be any growling, the three of them will create something progressive w/out growling.

Hevy Tred 05-15-2006 11:51 AM

Hmm...I love mikes growl

(2000!)

Moses 05-15-2006 11:52 AM

I'm especially excited to hear what this will be like. Does the project have a name yet? Or any official information?

Crysiss 05-15-2006 11:53 AM

His growl is brutal, I like the way it sounds in Bloodbath alot.

Congrats on 2000, 20 more for me and ill hit 2100:)\
OPETH frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt has confirmed reports that he is planning on collaborating with PORCUPINE TREE's Steven Wilson and DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy on an as-yet-un-named project.
nope, nothing much yet.

Hevy Tred 05-15-2006 11:56 AM

Ive never heard porcupine tree, is steven wilson a singer?

( yea 2000 is nice, but im a year older than you in MX days, you win mx :))

Moses 05-15-2006 11:58 AM
Ive never heard porcupine tree, is steven wilson a singer?
He's a composer for the most part. He does create some of the best vocal harmonies though and writes all the instrument parts and sings for Porcupine Tree.

Crysiss 05-15-2006 11:59 AM

thats 2 months older buddy haha.

Steven Wilson is a singer, yes. You can hear him singing on Bleak, Masters Apprentice, etc. Stuff from D/D and BWP.
I think me and Steven want to make it heavy, and I think Mikael wants to, uh, not be heavy. Because me and Steven want to do stuff that we can't do with PORCUPINE TREE and DREAM THEATER, and get to some really heavy stuff. And I think that Mikael wants to get away from the heavy stuff because he does that all the time with OPETH
That part was interesting

Hevy Tred 05-15-2006 11:59 AM

Porcupine tree being...Deathmetal? similar to opeth or DT?
thats 2 months older buddy haha
.

(Well you can cut my posts in half, i used to be a pit beast, haha)

Moses 05-15-2006 12:00 PM
Porcupine tree being...Deathmetal? similar to opeth or DT?

No, it's not even heavy. It's just really good music.

Crysiss 05-15-2006 12:00 PM

no, Not Death Metal.

Hevy Tred 05-15-2006 12:01 PM

Ahh any recommended songs? Maybe worth the look if thier good.

Stormrider 05-15-2006 12:05 PM

I didn't know Steve Wilson sang in Master's Apprentice...

Crysiss 05-15-2006 12:06 PM

DUNT----DUNT----DUNT---DUNT---DUNT--Du-du-da-du-du-Daaaa
Hmm, I'll listen to it then and see. I always thought Akerfeldt sang all those clean parts :-/

Ah, the Ahhh part :p he sings with Akerfeldt then, heh.

Hevy Tred 05-15-2006 12:08 PM

Same here. This is odd...

Crysiss 05-15-2006 12:10 PM

Harmonizing with him, it works out great:)

I only know because I seen them recording that part on the Lamentations DVD.

Moses 05-15-2006 03:20 PM

That's probably what Portnoy is gonna do with Mike and Steve. It's weird seeing him with a smaller set.

JamJar 05-15-2006 03:40 PM

Wow! You could actually see Portnoy.

Shadows 05-15-2006 04:37 PM

I love you guys.

Crysiss 05-15-2006 04:43 PM

thats the most minimalistic kit ive seen an artist use in a long time.

Tyr 05-15-2006 04:49 PM
thats the most minimalistic kit ive seen an artist use in a long time.
Especially since it's Portnoy.

Crysiss 05-15-2006 04:51 PM

yea, Geez I cant wait for more news to come out about this project.

are the DT fans as stoked by this?

Tyr 05-15-2006 04:54 PM

I don't know about the DT fans, but I know I'm stoked.

Thresher 05-15-2006 05:44 PM

Crysiss 05-15-2006 06:02 PM

Thresher 05-15-2006 06:12 PM

Drone 05-16-2006 03:18 PM

Yes, it is sad. I just bought Damnation today and am especially astounded by the drumming!

We will have to see what happens next.

Crysiss 05-16-2006 03:19 PM

It wont be for awhile until another album, so you'll have to wait til than. Id say late 07 they're next album will be released.

UpperDecker 05-16-2006 03:23 PM
Hmm, I'll listen to it then and see. I always thought Akerfeldt sang all those clean parts :-/

Ah, the Ahhh part :p he sings with Akerfeldt then, heh.
I'm taking a guess......... Is it Masters Apprentices???

Crysiss 05-16-2006 03:25 PM

well, we werent guessing what song it was, I was trying to show them an example of where Steven Wilson sings.

MidnightRider 05-16-2006 05:12 PM
Ahh any recommended songs? Maybe worth the look if thier good.
Check out Arriving Somewhere But Not Here, Akerfeldt does the backing vocals and it's one of their heavier songs. For some others:

Blackest Eyes
Trains
Lazarus
Glass Arm Shattering
Halo
Always Never
She's Moved On

That should get you started. ;)

Drone 05-16-2006 06:19 PM
It wont be for awhile until another album, so you'll have to wait til than. Id say late 07 they're next album will be released.
I assumed it would be in that time period anyway. I prefer when bands wait at least two years in between albums because it gives me more time to make my final decision on their previous album. I wouldn't want the follow-up to Ghost Reveries to come out in late August. One can only wonder what the next one will sound like, though.

Darkness 05-16-2006 06:35 PM

GR was fine, but I really hope the next album is different.

Atica 05-16-2006 06:37 PM

Hey I'm just starting to get more deeply into Opeth, though I had already heard them, but only have the album of Damnation. So what other albums do you recomend me to download first?

Hevy Tred 05-16-2006 06:38 PM

Blackwater park OR Still life

(BWP being my first opeth album, very distinct)

And if you havent heard it, Black Rose immortal, The longest song..Ever (Probably longer out there, but wont be as good as opeth)

Atica 05-16-2006 06:44 PM

OK thanks dude. Can you send me that album please?

Hevy Tred 05-16-2006 06:45 PM

Hmm i cant upload for **** man...
