BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 11-25-2004 12:32 AM

Of course if they are good, but even songs like "Echoes" have its flaws.

lunch998 11-25-2004 12:33 AM
is it OK to have 15 to 30 min. songs?
Yea of course. Unless the song sucks and should be stopped.

lunch998 11-25-2004 12:36 AM
Of course if they are good, but even songs like "Echoes" have its flaws.
Well Pink Floyd will do that to you. It's like "Here's a bit of kickass music, but now here's a lot of no-music and random noises."

Like SOYCD parts I-IV. Yea, it's only 13 minutes, but the first 4 minutes are a waste of time to me. I guess some people like it, but I'm waiting for the music.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 11-25-2004 12:40 AM

Agreed, but I listin to songs like "Mountain Jam" and I really dont know if I like it or not. Its kinda like how I feel about Lou Reed....these jams confuse me. :(

Mountain Jam, on the other hand, rules. I wouldn't care if it went on for another 15 minutes.

I think some parts are a little boring, but the rest is great.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 11-25-2004 12:44 AM

Yes but 30 minutes!

lunch998 11-25-2004 12:46 AM

Well I play drums so the drum solo doesn't bore me, and I can really appreciate the guitar work. It's just easy for me to listen to I guess.

lunch998 11-25-2004 12:48 AM
Yes but 30 minutes!
Don't worry about the length. Don't listen to the whole song if you don't want too. If the music is good, then it should keep going. I'm never going to see the Allman Brothers live in 1970 (or 71?) so I like to hear as much jamming by them as I can.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 11-25-2004 12:56 AM

I guess your right.

lunch998 11-25-2004 12:57 AM
I guess your right.
If you don't like it or enjoy it, then you shouldn't listen to it. I was just giving my reason for liking it.

Very inspirational.

I say we bump the Beatles thread. How about it?

Thankyou, I thought so myself.

Let's do it.

thickasabrick 11-25-2004 10:13 AM

30 minutes isn't too bad for a drum solo, provided it is well written and played. i've watched bonhams moby dick on the live dvd a few times and its fairly long.

max roach has played entired concerts of just drum solos, you just have to be creative. i have found myself humming some of his drum solos, he can make melodies on drums just as good as a guitarist can.

I haven't heard a 30 minute drum solo, but I have heard Max Roach so I know what your talking about.

Listening to some Black Sabbath. I cannot get over how sinister this Sweet Leaf intro riff is. Its mind boggling that they can sound so evil! I love it!

They through you off with some sound effects and then it just goes right in to the badassness. The string scrapes, the drums, the distortion, everything about this song is awesome.

Electric Funeral is pretty menacing too. :thumb:
is it OK to have 15 to 30 min. songs?
as i said about the drum solo, 15 to 30 minute songs arent bad, i actually enjoy them because you can actually get into them as if they were a movie or something. i can't stand when a band has an amazing song, but its only like two minutes long. such as "good vibrations" i could listen to that song if it was an hour long, unfortuately it isn't. Thick As A Brick, the Jethro Tull album is considered one long song. its about 40 some minutes i think but i could be wrong. it has different parts to it that could be classified as songs or "movements," but the whole album is just considered one song. its awesome. pink floyd also wrote song really good epic songs, same with Emerson Lake and Palmer and Iron Butterfly.

lunch998 11-25-2004 10:20 AM

I agree with you about long songs. If they are good songs then you can really get into them and enjoy them for longer. Stupid Tales Of Brave Ulysses is only 2:45, I wish that song would go on for 5 more minutes.

sweet leaf is a killer song. my favourite would have to be Hand of Doom, or just about anything from their paranoid album. NIB is also a good one. i love early sabbath, it reminds me of a heavier version of the hendrix experience, how the bass is so funky, the drums are so free, and of course the guitar is simply amazing.

ya i was listening to my Best of Cream record the other day, it always upsets me how short they keep their best songs. when i think of a good song, i milk it for all its worth, i don't end it as soon as possible.

The only salvation they offer is the 16 minute version of Spoonful on Wheels of Fire disc 2, where you finally get to hear them jam.

Might have to check that out. Always up for a sweet Cream jam.

i don't have wheels of fire, but i may have to buy it now. i have never actually heard cream just jam out, i've only heard them on record and radio.

lunch998 11-25-2004 10:47 AM

Yea I think it's worth it, you always hear about how Cream was great at long jams and improvising, but you never actually hear them do it.

ya we have mentioned Queen. they are a great band, Freddy is probably the most talented rock/pop (whatever you want to consider them) singer of all time. brian may is a genius on the guitar. they wrote tons of great anthems and put on a great live show.

welcome to the forums by the way. i suggest you read the rules before you do anything to get yourself banned (it usually happens to everyone when they are new)

Broken Arrow 11-25-2004 04:12 PM

Freddy is no doubt talented but he is no where near my favourite.

thickasabrick 11-25-2004 04:31 PM
Freddy is no doubt talented but he is no where near my favourite.
...me too. My favourite singer might have to be Jim Morrison, but I'm really not sure.

and did you guys read the Jim Morrison thread? I never realized Mr. Mojo Risin is an anagram for Jim Morrison. That's pretty clever.

magicbus 11-25-2004 04:58 PM

I didn't know that

That is clever.

gmoneyguy 11-25-2004 05:03 PM

I need to buy a Doors album. Any suggestions?

magicbus 11-25-2004 05:05 PM

The only "real" albums I've heard beside my greatest hits are "The Doors" and "Strange Days", and I love both of them. I'd probably start with the self titled.

But now that I think about it, I think any of there albums would be great, because they only have like 2 songs I don't like.

LA Woman

BludgeonySteve 11-25-2004 05:34 PM

I have Morrison hotel and then a double disk thing ;)

I need more doors. Especially because I claim them as one of my favorite bands.

lunch998 11-25-2004 09:32 PM

I am, sorry to say, Door-less. I'll probably get the s/t soon.
