Dr. Jake Destructo 10-01-2006 09:19 PM

So I listened to Awake for the first time in like half a year, and I actually liked most of it quite a bit. Namely, 6:00, The Mirror, Caught in a Web, and that's probably it.

Toaster 10-01-2006 09:20 PM

I don't like LaBrie's vocals on that album, but that's pretty much the only thing I don't like about it. It's a great album.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-01-2006 09:24 PM

You know what, I kind of gave up on Dream Theater after listening to Awake because Labrie annoys me; after listening to Ayreon's "The Human Equation," I appreciated Labrie's vocals a lot more, so maybe I ought to check out some more Dream Theater, especially if Awake is weak on Labrie's part.

Toaster 10-01-2006 09:49 PM

That's a really poor performance from him. He's off-key a lot of the time, and he does this raspy type thing which sounds horrible. He sounds really good on Metropolis and Images and Words.

Damn, I still have to check out Ayreon!

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-01-2006 11:43 PM

It's hard to listen to The Human Equation in one sitting, simply because it's nearly 2 hours and I never really have that much time on my hands...It's an okay album though, check that out.

And I'll try and pick up one of those two albums.

Sent the links to all who asked.

You think so?
I love Awake's vocals

eug008 10-02-2006 05:40 AM

Me too, it helps set a dark atmosphere.

The Human Equation is the definition of modern prog. It's ridiculously ecclectic in terms of the genres it takes from. And oh man, those keyboards are INTENSE.

I still didn't like LaBrie's voice all that much though. I just like it because it piles on some of my favorite singers to stand in for certain characters and stuff.

lak89 10-02-2006 08:26 AM

LaBrie's vocals were pretty good on Awake, especially for a darker album and when his voice was more of a raspy shriek than his more melodious singing nowadays. He tends to scream out higher verses back then

eug008 10-02-2006 08:50 AM

No problem.

Yeah me neither, I should check it out.

ghettoeddo 10-02-2006 08:55 AM

only problem is...it's rapidshare and i gotta wait in b/w downloads about 2 hours :(
but ill get them all eventually :]

eug008 10-02-2006 08:58 AM

Hey, did it end up needing a pw?

ghettoeddo 10-02-2006 09:14 AM

nope
just entre the code they give you once the wait time is over.
but if ur a non-premium user, you have a wait time of about 2 hours b/w downloads

Mother 10-02-2006 09:19 AM

rapidshare annoys me ... half the time it says My IP is already downloading something (even though its not) or the download has expired or something

Jev 10-02-2006 10:01 AM

I can't download from it at all. Something to do with who I'm with for internets

eug008 10-02-2006 10:15 PM

Hey since were talking about side-projects, has anyone else heard Kevin Moore's solo project, Chroma Key?

ghettoeddo 10-03-2006 09:03 AM

yea heard of it...how is it?
i still have yet to hear OSI actually... :(

jpshortstuff 10-03-2006 09:05 AM

im worried that OSI will be too proggy for me so i havent got any yet.

ghettoeddo 10-03-2006 09:06 AM

doesnt hurt to try :]
although i have all of JP's side projects...i need to delve into everything else.
transatlantic (portnoy) kinda bored me...

jpshortstuff 10-03-2006 09:11 AM

LTE and SA are doing me fine atm. (np:Acid Rain - just the kind of proggyness i like)

ghettoeddo 10-03-2006 09:15 AM

Sa?

jpshortstuff 10-03-2006 09:20 AM

Suspended Animation. sorry, thats not so obvious when abbreviated.

ghettoeddo 10-03-2006 09:21 AM

ohhhh ok
i've also got JLB's elements of persuasion, but i wanna check out mullmuzzler too
