I think it's a cool idea; I wouldn't have any problem editing them in, nor would any of the actual R&M mods, I don't think. The only problem is coming up with the suggested music.

Indeed. It would be too difficult to get the regulars to decide...

Stevie 02-04-2006 05:17 PM

The regular users of the threads could suggest and vote on choices, and so on, in a similar way to how things like the top 100 metal albums has been voted in before...

Stormrider 02-04-2006 05:18 PM

I made an IE thread, and asked for a name change a while back, and Heavy Riva changed it to R&M's Inferno(Iced Earth).

Does that make it official ?

Yeah, that'd be cool. I would want them to post their lists here, though, and not in the thread. I don't want to go through forty separate threads searching for forty separate lists :)

Yeah, the larger threads (Incubus, Porcupine Tree, etc.) are certainly official just as much as the Pink Floyd, Tool, Iron Maiden, etc. threads are.

The genre threads (Black Metal, Death Heads, Thrash Titans, etc.) could also make a list of recommendations, if they want.

The Black Metal thread already has album recommendations on the first post.

Stormrider 02-04-2006 05:24 PM

Oh okay. Well in that case, I'll just edit in the recommendations for the IE thread..If its realy necessary..

Jom 02-04-2006 05:25 PM

Ah, okay. I'm not cool enough to post there, so I don't really pay attention.

Thanks.

StormRider: You don't have to edit them in if you don't want to; it's your thread.

However, it would be nice for someone who has never heard of Iced Earth to get a starting point from there, know what I mean?

Stoic 02-04-2006 05:28 PM
I'm not cool enough to post there
>_>

As for Death Heads I doubt people would like Azagthoth's first post to be removed. The thread name and thread starter of the most long living thread are cult

Jom 02-04-2006 05:29 PM

What are you talking about? We don't remove anything, all we do is edit the post. No deleting takes place.

Stoic 02-04-2006 05:31 PM

yeah but editting means deleting the content of the first post :p

Yeah, I see what you mean. I'll go edit it in now with what the thread regulars have recommended in the past..

Jom 02-04-2006 05:46 PM
yeah but editting means deleting the content of the first post :p
Uhh, no. Look at your post again.

Riva 02-04-2006 06:39 PM

Jom, the point is you would have to remove Azagthoth's original writing because

1) It already has a list of bands which are going to be different to the list chosen as the "recommended one".

2) We already get a person every few weeks replying to his original post, due to the question he put in it.

Bartender 02-04-2006 06:47 PM

I would leave the death heads thread as it is, myself.

Post-Riva EDIT: Not for that reason.

Jom 02-04-2006 07:06 PM

1. What, adding a second list would be too confusing to people?

2. Oh. Well, I guess that answers my first question

At any rate, I wasn't going to touch the genre threads because I really don't want virgin blood to be spilled while they're all Heiling Hitler or something.

TheDMV 02-04-2006 07:44 PM

I'm definitley for that idea. I think we could have a fun time trying to come up with the best starting places in many threads.

I'm not really sure what to suggest to this guy. Usually I try to give advice on how to make better threads but, I'm speechless.

Nostalgia 02-05-2006 05:20 PM

That's RATM9017, he's an old user, he got banned a while back if I remember right and now he comes and makes pointless threads like that.

Even the CR thread?! :D

/wags invisible tail

I don't think we will though, there's too much variety and stuff. And it will take a long time for us to decide.

Still, it would be worthwhile (so long as you let me add Bob Seger, Bruce Springsteen, Kansas, Boston, and The Police to the list >_>).

We could have each reg pick 3-5 bands. I guess we would limit it to classic rock recommendations though?

gmoneyguy 02-06-2006 12:39 AM

Once the drummer contest ends do you think I could host a top 100 most versatile musicians in R&M competition?

Drunken Viking 02-06-2006 12:46 AM

The poll just started, we haven't even got past the nom thread.

Could a mod move this to the drum forum? Please.
