But most good bands, whether successful or not have a live fan base of some sort.
Disagree. Some bands are awesome, but nobody latches onto them. Some dire bands will attract 50 people in their hometown, but only because they are mates. |
pc?
Yes. Sorted it out now. Lost my playcounts, but it's not the end of the world. |
Maybe in regards to record sales...
But most good bands, whether successful or not have a live fan base of some sort.
Record sales is a hard figure to look at when it comes to a bands popularity as hit singles are almost never a good indicator of the rest of the album (unless it's Nickelback, in which case, it's guaranteed to be sh*t). And plenty of people go to shows because they like "that one song they play on the radio," not because there's a legitimate fan-base. I forgot what we were arguing about....wanna make out? you do know
that more human than human is a nietzsche quote ps: that song sucks ass |
Nietzche says
Everything which distinguishes man from the animals depends upon this ability to volatilize perceptual metaphors in a schema, and thus to dissolve an image into a concept. For something is possible in the realm of these schemata which could never be achieved with the vivid first impressions: the construction of a pyramidal order according to castes and degrees, the creation of a new world of laws, privileges, subordinations, and clearly marked boundaries - a new world, one which now confronts that other vivid world of first impressions as more solid, more universal, better known, and more human than the immediately perceived world, and thus as the regulative and imperative world.
|
12/12 - when I wake up there'll be a new Glassjaw song. Kinda hoping it's that song that's been floating around for at least a year now, but also kinda hoping it's something new too. I can finally buy last month's single as well ^_^
|
We're now done three out of four songs for the new EP. Recording live is tough but a lot of fun. It feels so good when you get the take.
|
I love recording live, it's by far my favorite method.
RX Bandits have done a bunch of live recording in the past, their album Progress has all sorts of wicked stuff done on the fly. |
I'm surprised at how good the quality of the recordings is. We're recording drums, bass, and guitar live in my basement. Five or six mics on the drums, two on the guitar amp, one (and DI) for the bass, and one room mic. We set up the room for as little bleed as possible, and it's working really well. It's all sounding really good even before mixing, so I can't wait until it is mixed and mastered to hear how it comes out.
|
No doubt, should be decent.
What's the plan for Christmas, Sir? Edit: also will locked in a box be on the EP. |
No plans. I've been off work all this week because I'm taking a paid vacation. Then the next two weeks should should be relatively quiet there because a lot of people will be gone for holidays and such, so I'll pretty much be sitting around doing nothing and making money.
Other than that, we'll finish this EP very soon. Perhaps do a second EP since we have a bunch more songs that are ready to record. So, pretty much just work and lots of music. How about you? Do you have any plans? |

A bunch of the gang is coming back for the break so I'll be getting in touch with them, meeting up with Simon, the guy who played bass with me this summer and we'll be getting our powers back in motion. Chris returns for a few days too so maybe he'll sit in on the skins once or twice. My buddy Anthony is leaving for a return to Vancouver soon so that kind of threw a wrench into the idea of performing live during the break, but hey. So far there's gonna be a good bit of working mixed in with about four or five days off, not including weekends. Got a trip to Grande Prairie AB planned for a day, should be fun. I've been playing quite a bit but honestly Anthony heading back to Van so soon definitely killed the mutual interest. ah well. Glad to hear you guys are racking up tunes like nobody's business! I've been writing a bit lately as well. |
So, I just came home, and when I opened the fridge, this is what I saw.

Just keep writing and looking for people to play with, someone should come along eventually. And yes, that song will be on the EP. There's also a video of another song that we put up (Meaningless) that will be on it. And two other songs that we have not put videos up of, but have played live at most of our recent shows. We've got videos, but you can wait it out. It should be done (printed) in about a month. |

Best BBQ sauce I've ever had. 2) This, but get good honey mustard from the deli. 3) I prefer soy milk, myself, but I don't use milk in anything other than my fruit smoothies and the occasional breakfast cereal. 4) Wtf is up with Americans putting Ranch on everything? I just don't get it. I'd, instead, extend my vote off to Frank's Red Hot sauce and A-1 Steak Sauce, as they are tastier, less fattening, and cover 95% of all non-salad situations. A little bit of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, oregano, a touch of vinegar, and cracked peppercorn are a better salad topping alternative. |
FULL FAT MILK. Gold top if possible. Nom.
Finch split up :( They're my post-hardcore Glassjaw replacements, haha. Can't get into letlive, who seem to be the most obviously active band in that genre at the moment. |

Totally inappropriate place to be pushing this, because I know you guys probably won't actually be too bothered, hah. But still, we just got some new shirts and stuff for sale, and there's our album too. It's been getting some pretty beast reviews actually. Checkitout: www.maeslostempire.bigcartel.com

I usually censor myself, even when sending text messages. That one slipped through because it was in direct response to "fucking cheese man". :thumb: :thumb: My friend's father once said, "Curse words are for the uneducated man who has run out of adequate, intelligent words." I guess it's always stuck with me. So if I do use it (in very informal situations), I generally censor it. Also, the phrase "pardon my French" irritates me. I say, "Pardon my English," because I am, afterall, not speaking French. |
Lol, my guitar player is gutted about Finch breaking up.

Tracking is almost done for the new EP. Should be done (printed) in about a month. Excitement!

Lunar eclipse anyone?

Finally had time to poke around in the OLP 5-string that I had. The 3-band EQ is successfully installed and I threw some strings on it. It sounds decent, but it's really lacking in the upper-mid/treble department because the preamp has frequency centers at 40Hz, 400Hz, and 4kHz. I'm a fan of the grind that comes in between 800Hz and 1.2kHz, so I'm going to find a cheap (but decent) set of steel strings to see if they help bring out those frequencies that the nickels don't.
I'm also going to pick up some epoxy in about a half hour and start working on the Brice fretless. I've got about 8 coats of glossy enamel on the front, but the stickers are still protruding slightly, so I suspect it will need about 4 coats of the epoxy to get to where I want. With any luck, I'll have time to route the MM pickup slot in the Squier P-bass and prep it for painting. I love having a few weeks off from school - it gives me time to finish all of these projects. Whew. |

I know I'm thinking various curses in my head anyway, and to type all but one letter just doesn't add up in my head seeing as I already know what I'm intending to say, so I just let it fly. Kinda like that huge run-on sentence. damn. Burton, yes I saw a bit of the eclipse. Pretty cool shit eh? Joe after all that investment into that thing are you going to keep it or unload it? Also Zach here's a quiz for you. Your Jazzmaster's bridge has a floating tailpiece, yes? Assuming you have some bits that you play fairly heavy on (and/or heavy whammy use), do you have to jam something in the tailpiece to keep that shit from moving around? I'm having a bit of trouble with that at the mo'. Also yesterday did some hardcore shredding with some buddies, seeing as Simon's back in town now. When we switched it up and I was playing bass I tore my hands up and it was ridiculous, two layers of skin came off my left middle finger. it was absolutely awesome. |
Well, I never actually use the whammy bar, but every once in a while my strings will pop out of their slots. And the answer is I do nothing about it. I just put them back in place when it happens.
Sorry, I know that's not helpful. That's just how I deal with. I suppose you could cram something in there to stop it from happening. Is that what you mean? Or do you mean that the saddles or whatever are actually moving around? If that's what you mean, then I don't really notice that happening except for when the strings pop out like I said. |
Hello
Hello
What's crackin'? Whacha been up to while not posting here? |
@ Zach - yeah, the strings pop but also the little screws that you'd stuff the allen key into move by themselves and shit. that being said I play hard even when I'm not playing hard so I guess that's to be expected considering the whole piece floats (literally, there's nothing that holds it in place.) but anyways.
@ trumpeter - Hello back atcha! vintage '4 eh? swank. |

The screws move? Like, up and down adjusting the height of the strings? If that's what you mean, I haven't experienced that. |
Burton, yes I saw a bit of the eclipse. Pretty cool shit eh?
Hell yeah. My gf and I got some pretty sweet shots of it. |
