damn you chad
Click a link? :( Sorry for ya man.

My experiences today, looking at cymbals.

Why do cymbals have to be so expensive over here in europe?
I drive up to a drumshop, about half an hour away. Ask about pricing for 3005s, turns out to be around €1400. Bit more that I was expecting, but not too much.
Then come the cymbals. I go to try out some Hi-Hats first. I like the sound of the 13" HHX Stage hats. I ask how much they are.

€419

Four hundred and nineteen euros!
I go back to look at some more. I like the 14" Paragon hats. Ask about price: €483.
Even the 13" A new beats were €370
I was not pleased.

Moving onto ride cymbals, they had no Paragon rides in stock ( :( ). I asked about the price anyway. €480.

Compared to the prices on massmusic, i could get the whole paragon set for the same price as the hats, ride and china.

This means I'll have to drive 2 and a half hours to the other drumshop (which happens to be the biggest drumshop in europe :D )

I did however get one good thing out of my trip. I got to play on a Ludwig Kit with 3 Bass drums, and almost 20 toms. I've decided that I want a 20+ piece kit next.

rockindrummer 11-19-2005 12:02 PM

Cymbals are just generaly expensive man. They are no where near as much over here but still the prices can get up there.

meh, it was only my tertiary account so it's not so bad

raz0r 11-19-2005 02:23 PM

What are the import duties like on cymbals?

I've been thinking of ordering some cymbals from the US. Because if you take into account tax, and exchange rates, I can get the 14 inch paragon hats for exactly half the price of what the retail for around here. plus import duty.

It shoudn't be that much, seeing as it's just a lump of bronze, right?

Jezen 11-19-2005 02:28 PM

Just get some Istanbul Agops! Problem solved.

rockindrummer 11-19-2005 02:36 PM

^ They are nice cymbals, definitly look into them.

hmm, import will probably add around 30 to 40%. And you have no idea what the state of the cymbal will be.

Check out the musik produktiv in Germany..they have an online shop as well, and they send everything for just a few bucks. That goes for full sets as well.

Hi-Hat Sabian Paragon SANP1302N 13"
13", natural 316,00 EUR

3005's go for 1.111 to 1.215 depending on the setup.

I bought my 3003 there as well. Ordered my stuff up front, and went there with a few friends. Allways haggle for the price tho.. "But at Store X that cymbal is priced at €Y".

ugh, I'm still waiting on my 16" HH duo crash. It's been on order since July.

Janeway 11-19-2005 03:16 PM

I want a new djembe.
Arg.

Jezen 11-19-2005 03:18 PM

I love my big djembe, but it's still in Sydney!!!!

Janeway 11-19-2005 03:27 PM

Sydney?

I like the tone of mine, but it's so small.
It's only like 13".
It's pine, too.
I knew I should have got the giant geniune African one that smelled like goat.
Curses.

Hmm, i'll check out music produktiv, sounds interesting. The drive down to drumworld is over 2 hours (living just outside Den Haag), so i'm not sure if i'm willing to drive that far!

I know Drumworld is a bit expensive, but it's got a big selection, so it's a good place to test out cymbals :)

puppet.master 11-19-2005 03:55 PM

i dont have any other percussion instruments :(

Janeway 11-19-2005 03:59 PM

Get a djembe.
They get chicks.

AND OH SWEET GOD
I have a delicious cup of chai tea.
It's so creamy and sweet and christmas-y.

puppet.master 11-19-2005 04:10 PM

ill be getting more than one djembe soon then

what would you say the optimum chick scoring number would be?

Janeway 11-19-2005 04:16 PM

Oh, about 30.
Of course, the chicks may have kankles and multiple breasts.
That just means kinkier sex.
