My favorite thrash riffs are the ones that are really fast and have catchy little licks at the end of them, or the really punishing single note palm-muted ones.
|
I've never actually thought about what kind of Thrash riffs I like.
|
I like the ones that possess your neck and cause servere headthrashing to ensue.
|
I like the ones that possess your neck and cause severe headthrashing to ensue.
Yeah, those are quite good too. :D |
Helstar are great. Nosferatu is awesome.
and I would kill to see the Waste live :-D
Def def. What are some other bands similar to them? |
umm, I can't really think of too many. :-\
|
Def def. What are some other bands similar to them?
Helstar or Municipal?? if its helstar then Heathen arent too far off worth checking out metal church as well older stuff is personally my favourite if you can get hold of Helstar - Remnants of war, do so. if it was municipal check out dri crucial unit [personally they suck imo], cryptic slaughter |
Yeh, I was talking about Helstar. Thanks, though I'm already familar with Heathen and Metal Church.
|
New Sodom has leaked, and I'm downloading a track from it now.
|
Speaking of Sodom. I decided to rip In The Sign of Evil onto my computer and it only has 5 tracks, yet Darklyrics.com shows 8.
|
Metal-Archives says 5 tracks. The version I downloaded has 8 tracks.
The extra tracks are the Intro, Outro and the Outro to Witching Metal. I don't know what to think of the new Sodom song I heard. It has a really cool dark atmosphere in parts, but it's mid-paced and the riffs aren't that great, it also has quite a few time changes and really good drumming. The intro owns though, great acoustic stuff. This is only one song though. I want to hear the rest. Here is what some guy who has heard the whole thing said
The production is very good and clear, definately not digital/pro tools. I thik this is a major step up from the sometimes mushy sound of some previous albums. Bobby's drumsound has improved a lot! no cardboard box sounding bassdrums and no uncontrolled hi hat anymore! The guitar tone is less distorted and clearer, sounds tighter than ever before. Tom's basssound varies between his early distorted sound and his later clean sound dependent on the song. The vocals have never been so diverse, most of the time it's just good old Tom but he tries to add different accents here and there which is a very good thing IMO. The songwriting is the best I have heard from SODOM, they didn't just try to make an "M-16" ripoff but like always just went their own way which I thik is what kept them alive and still relevant after all these years. I would dare say this is the most progressive album SODOM has ever done and it's hard to compare it to any of their older albums.
|
What's the song called? And did you just downlaod from a p2p program?
|
The song is called Blood On Your Lips. I got it from the Exodus forum.
|
I got that song off the Destruction Forums. Killer tune, really dark atmosphere.
|
This new sodom is sounding intresting :D
"The songwriting is the best I have heard from SODOM" "The guitar tone is less distorted and clearer, sounds tighter than ever before" :D:D i know he also said its not an m-16 rip off but if its anything near as good as it then its going to be a brillaint album maybe even one of the albums of the year you never know...depending when maiden and heathen get round to releasing :P |
Kreator today!!! I'm going to bootleg the show. If anyone wants to hear it, let me know. I'll post it up.
|
I'm interested in hearing that bootleg.
Jon: Sounds good! Sodom never disappoint, in my opinion. They may have their mediocre phases, but never outright suck. |
I'm downloading the whole thing now.

Reunited San Francisco Bay Area thrashers LAAZ ROCKIT have posted the following message on their official web site, www.laazrockit.com.
"LAAZ ROCKIT is pleased to announce the upcoming release of their official DVD. It will feature rare old footage as well as new live footage of the band along with other cool stuff. We hope to have it in stores world wide in May 2006. It will also be available for purchase on the web site. The band is really excited about this release and hope that everyone will enjoy it as much as they do. Stay posted for release date." LAAZ ROCKET, formed in 1982, were a mainstay in the Bay Area thrash scene for nine years. In May 2005, the original lineup reunited for the first time since 1991 to play two shows with TESTAMENT, including the prestigious Dynamo Open Air festival in Holland. Their appearance at the Thrash Against Cancer benefit concert in July 2005 was their first U.S. show in over 14 years. Anyways another dvd coming out soon... ------------------------------------------------------------------ Los Angeles thrashers HIRAX will release their first DVD, "Thrash Til Death", on April 25 through Black Devil Records. The tracks compiled on this visual anthology span HIRAX's entire career and were filmed using professional cameras, multiple camera angles, and high-quality audio. The DVD also contains an interview with the entire band, "Hostile Territory" promo clip, a full visual discography including liner notes and artwork (by Pushead, "Mad" Marc Rude, and Craig Cummings), and even an Easter egg (hidden concert footage from Fender's Ballroom in 1985). "We are very excited about the DVD," said singer Katon W. De Pena. "It contains some of the most amazing performances the band has done up until this point. I wanted it to be something that HIRAX diehards as well as any fan of extreme metal would be proud to own. As a matter of fact, this DVD was compiled and edited by a huge metal fan, Eddie Boyd (aka 'Sickthrash'), who has been collecting thrash memorabilia since the beginning." "Thrash ‘Til Death" will be available through Century Media distribution as well as Black Devil Records. European and South American distribution is in the works. HIRAX is currently in the preproduction stage for their upcoming album "Assassins Of War". Joining vocalist Katon W. Get Thrashed? They said they were going to release it early 2005
Get Thrashed is like...supposedly still being tweaked but eh...I've lost hope  |
Yeah I'll be suprised if it even comes out if they keep this up.
|
Kreator was awesome. Much more old school setlist than last time I saw them. My recorder ran out of batteries and the whole recording I made was messed up. Oh well. The pulled out Love Us or hate Us. That really suprized me. I also got the Terrible Certainty shirt.
NP: Kreator - Flag of Hate 2 month until Exodus 3 months until Destruction and 5 more months until Sodom. |
That sucks, I was kind of looking forward to hearing that bootleg. I wish I lived up near Hollywood, I'd be going to all kinds of concerts. :/
Are you going to see Slayer in Long Beach? |

New Sodom album = good.
Me not going to see Sacrifice in Toronto = bad. Hirax and Laaz DVD, excellent; I'll definitely be buying those. |
Lords Of Depravity and City Of God are my favourites from the new Sodom so far.
Hirax and Laaz are two bands I need to get some more of. I heard some mp3s of both ages ago, but that's it. |
My first post in ages!
Good news on those DVD's, they sound great. Jon, definately check out some more Laaz Rockit, they are pretty good, whilst Hirax are merely ok. I haven't been listening to much thrash really, and i'm behind on all the news. What have i missed? Whats this about new Sodom!? |
New sodom = great
New sadus = pretty ****ing bad nothing like older stuff also chuck billy is on it but he does those stupid death metal growls i dont like it when he does that. |
The new Sadus songs I heard on their myspace sucked :(
|
theyve tried to add groove to their songs and it hasnt payed off one bit, im not a big fan of it personally
New venom in 2 days :D |
the only thrash that i can get into is old sepultura, old metallica, some testament, venom, and some old megadeth. i just don't find thrash all THAT great, but it's better than a lot of other metal . . .
|
I like thrash more than any other metal subgenre. Try some Exodus, Artillery and early Overkill.
My Hypnosia album arrived yesterday. |
Was it Extreme Hatred?
