This argument again?

Tone comes from that knob next to the volume. It's even marked so.

The Transporter 06-14-2011 01:19 PM

the majority of guitars and basses that i have played do not have their tone knobs marked "tone"

Blue_Moon 06-14-2011 02:57 PM

2 tone knobs are pretty pointless on guitars

#al says so

Sad But True 06-14-2011 04:01 PM
tone is in the fingers bros
Heheh good times.

Tyrant21 06-15-2011 05:40 AM
i swear my guitar teacher is being such an arsehole

he didn't show up to my recital, which is ok i guess, not a particularly good move if you want to show that you take pride in your students but maybe he doesn't really care

but then he sends me this message today:
and i have no idea what to say because why should knowing the mark i got for my performance give him any idea of how he should be marking other performances, especially given the fact that he didn't even see the performance for which the mark has been given? whatsmore, isn't it pretty rude to just straight up ask for something like that?

the insinuation is that he feels like he can judge my performance purely based on what he's seen in the 2 lessons we've had since i started learning these pieces. This is a guy who has never seen me perform. in the last lesson we had he said 'you're a great player and all, but i've never seen you do something that was actually finished, completely polished and presented' and i was like 'ok, then come to one of my performances because you're not going to get that from me when we tend to have two lessons a term or less'.

i'm a completely different player when i'm performing, partly just out of lack of experience but i certainly don't play worse in my performances than when i'm practicing, usually quite the opposite. and he'll never know that in 3 years of teaching me. in fact, he didn't even ask how *I* felt about my performance, if I felt like i'd achieved my goals, got a good audience response or anything.

so i send him this back:

and get this in return:

fuck this cunt. i'm not playing ball with him.
I know this is a few pages back but this guy sounds ridiculous. What musician in their right mind would suggest that they can guess how someone would perform based on hearing them in a couple of lessons? What is your major btw?

guitarbaz 06-17-2011 06:35 AM

fucks sake.

switched on me amp last night, fizzle pop and goodnight vienna.

one power amp valve and one of the pre amp valves had popped.

wtf??

Sad But True 06-17-2011 07:10 AM

Shit how'd you blow a preamp valve?

That reminds me, the valves in my JCM have been in for like, 2 years and they're still working well (touch wood)

fuck knows mate.

i can only think it might have spiked when the power amp valve went as the main fuse blew at the same time.

i'm taking it into a place in maidstone next week when i'm down there and they're gonna check the voltages and shit. altho all it's got in now are the old valves i replaced last year so it'll need rebiasing again when the new ones come from watford valves. this is getting expensive.

this is it tho, that JCM2000 i had before the Engl was great with valves, never had any bother at all in the few years i had it.

Blue_Moon 06-17-2011 07:29 AM

still using my jcm2000 that i re-tubed/biased once works well atm

probably jinxed it but yeah expensive stuff when it goes wrong :(

I don't play it that much really, but I am more lately with this 2-3 band thing im in, havnt retubed it in like 4 years :o

but yea, maybe some sort of power issue or shizzle

made a nice little work type area last night

Blue_Moon 06-17-2011 10:05 AM

Aye yeah, it's beside a retro record jukebox too and a fridge full of beer and a snooker table behind it, awesome (Y)

Sad But True 06-18-2011 04:57 PM

Lod, this is why I shouldn't do mixing with other people around, I get easily distracted.

guitarbaz 06-20-2011 07:26 AM

Engl-bert has gone to the amp hospital today. Alas we have no NHS for amps so i'll be going private.

purple_hazer 06-20-2011 05:26 PM

Managed to get an awesome price on a TZ-10, I believe a new version of it has just come out. Really decent camera that allows you a pretty incredible amount of control but makes class pictures when you can't be arsed fiddling.

Sad But True 06-22-2011 04:36 AM

Tits, I'm skint as balls and a L6 MM-4 comes in a local shop for 60 quid. I could make some damn awesome noise with that and my whammy.

superjoe 06-22-2011 03:43 PM
