Sad But True 06-08-2011 07:07 PM

Yeah, but I decided that a little pedalboard to just have my individual pedals on would have to be the other side of the mic stand from my FCB so I just spec'd up a board that could fit the FCB and all my pedals at once.

guitarbaz 06-09-2011 04:08 AM

which monitors are those? can't quite see in the pic.

did some more recording last night mysel, that guitar rig plug in for logic pro is continuing to surprise me.

looks like the project is starting to take off. the songwriter i'm working with has some good connections and we've been promised a slot upstairs at ronnie scotts once we get the act together. something to aim for in a few months anyways :)

jaklyons 06-09-2011 05:50 AM

Out of all the pedalboards I've seen, that's probably my favourite.

The_Mop 06-10-2011 10:16 AM

So, taking my first steps to finding out about postgrad research. Anyone here done/doing that? Trying to find as much info as possible tbh.

Matt? 06-10-2011 10:18 AM

filled out a postgrad application for a comparative literature Msc, never sent it.

The_Mop 06-10-2011 11:24 AM

I'm thinking that I'm up for the challenge, but the problem is that the challenge is so undefined - for our department, there's 4 different research groups, 2 of which I'd be interested in, but I've been given all sorts of weird advice on how to go about finding information, and who to talk to and how to get a project. Some say to apply to the group, some say that it's best to apply through a specific lecturer, some say just hand an application to the school supervisor.

Then on top of that, I havn't got a clue where I'll end up, whether I'm academically capable, whether I'll have to do teaching, where to get funding, e.t.c.. all seems so mental. Gonna meet with the school postgrad supervisor on monday and see what he can tell me.

fingers mccoy 06-10-2011 11:51 AM

of course you're academically capable. don't question that, you don't have to be a genius to carry out substantial research in your field of interest.

fingers mccoy 06-11-2011 08:32 AM

checking out syllabus requirements cause i wanna do a guitar diploma, i apparently have to take grade 5 theory followed by grade 8 practical, fuck this shit i just did a degree

oh wait, i can go straight to a licentiate of the royal schools of music, awesome

Epidemechanical 06-11-2011 10:21 AM

Sad But True 06-11-2011 10:31 PM

MÚTANT STYLE MULITI0QUOTE!!!!!

Eww short scale. I'd much prefer a 5 string P-bass.

All of that sounded very confusing, or, at least very confusing to a drunk guy. So, what I'm gonna do is smile, nod, and agree with everything you've just said.
what pedals are those SBT?
It's a Blackstar HT Drive,(which isn't mine unfortunately), a shitty Behringer Chorus and a L6 Dr. Distorto. My Whammy, Muff, OD-2, Crybaby, TU-2 and FCB1010 were at the practice space so I couldn't get proper pics. Love the shit out of the Blackstar pedals though. The HT Drive and the HT DistX or whatever it's called really impressed me.

Because it's basically a big plank of pine my old man knocked up at work?

Love that shit. :D

Really getting into Fender basses recently, but, still ... a J-bass? get all over that P-bass mother fucker! Also the monitors are Alesis M1 mkii's.

The Transporter 06-13-2011 03:32 PM

anyone who wants their bass tone to have balls behind it gets a Jazz bass

Sad But True 06-13-2011 03:44 PM

There are far ballsier sounding basses than J-basses.

happy birthday to me

cheers all you cunts.

also sbt, how're you doing these days? working?

spirit 06-13-2011 03:50 PM

You're a pretty sound bloke yourself sir. Happy birthday homeslice.

I'm doing somewhat okay. Looking for a job, going to a few counselling sessions, keeping up my prescription, etc etc. Personally I'm doing alright but I've developed a ridiculously short fuse and have fractured knuckles punching walls. Stupid I know.

How you fairing these days? You ever get round to uploading your performance from the other week?

motogrifo 06-13-2011 06:34 PM

bappy birthday fingers, I'd normally use this as an excuse to go get shitfaced but the weekend was damn intense and I'm still suffering the consequences

The_Mop 06-14-2011 05:10 AM

happy birthday fingers, have a good 'un

My internet got cut off a few days ago. However I'm still here. HTC internet thethering = awesome

auto-god tone

jazz bass tone is like universally good no matter what

every time i hear a band with good bass tone, i go check out what they use and nearly 100% of the time it is fender jazz or some sort of derivative.

granted good bass tone is subjective, so this is purely opinion

Sad But True 06-14-2011 09:37 AM
auto-god tone

Oh believe me I've heard some bad bass tones with Jazzes, almost not sustain plinky plonky sounding ones and everything. My bassist in my indie band has a really nice tone with his J, and it distorts really well, it's just not what I'd prefer to use. I prefer longer scale, humbuckers, smoother, rounder sound.

Epidemechanical 06-14-2011 09:58 AM

id say like 80% of bass tone is in the strings.

Sad But True 06-14-2011 11:35 AM

I'd say you were wrong, tbh.

Epidemechanical 06-14-2011 11:44 AM

nope

strings are by far the most important aspect of a stringed instrument's sound

They may be the most important part of the actual instrument but variation between something like brand of strings is minimal.
