why the **** does my last post keep getting cut off.
when we record with this band http://www.myspace.com/chicagogangwars we record drums and bass live (it's more fun and ends up being tighter, with us for some reason.) then everything else after. I like bass before guitars.
I do too, until I find that my bass' tone doesn't fit well with the guitars and drowns our guitarist out, so I'm forced to change. From now on, I'll let everyone else record, then use a spectrum analyzer to see what kind of tone I need exactly without stepping on everyone else's toes. |
maybe your guitar player should just get better tone
|
Maybe Particle man should learn how to EQ/Mix and stop making excuses.
And if there's bad tone, it's his fault also for tracking it with bad tone... |
The new Mark Bass gig bag looks worth checking out in person, Bass Bag 24 it's called. Looks like it would be an improvement on my Warwick Rockbag unless it is disappointingly flimsy in construction or something.

Have you guys ever itemized your gear and really looked at how much it's worth?
I am getting music instrument insurance and finishing up my guitars right now and it's just shocking to actually see. Granted, I'm taking into consideration a couple modifications that I haven't actually made yet, but it's still weird to look at. My gear is worth more than my car, but insurance is much cheaper. |

Yeah. It's really important if you do that, not to make a list of money you've earnt from music and compare them. Now that is sickening.
|
Hahahahahha.
"So currently, I'm 29 grand in the hole... Hrmmm." So I test rode the bike I'm planning on buying yesterday, it was frightening to just hop on one after over 6 months of not riding. I'm thankful it was a quiet street. |
can you do a wheelie
|
No.
|
how about a stoppie
|
No.
|
That's a good thing really.
|
Yeah, I can ride one, and have a license, that's about as far as it goes.

If I continue to play out twice a month and make $50 per gig, I'll only need to gig for **crunches numbers** 12 more years to break even! |
I like that return!

I'm looking at my Spector and considering tuning it in fifths. Anybody ever done this? I'm scurred.
Or maybe I should just tune it E-F. Or maybe I could stick with the standard Bb-Cb tuning like I usually use. |
I don't think tuning it in fifths would be a good idea, the strings might not like it very much, or the neck for that matter.
Use one of those tension calculators first fo sho. |

One of my teachers strings his double bass in fifths. CGDA. Cello, but an octave down.
It's awesome. |
fucking hate click tracks.
fucking hate click tracks.
Why? You realize how bad your time is if you can't play to it. |
There are some times when recording to a click is a bad idea.
If your band isn't accustomed to playing your songs to a click then it's likely it'll create more hassles than positives trying to record to them. A song finishing a couple of bpm faster or slower than it starts is not a case of musicians having bad time, it's perfectly naturally. Not being able to play in time with other people without a click, now that is when your time is bad. |
I just brewed up a bath o hefeweizen with some orange zest in there. Should be ready right around the end of February. Sweet.
My Irish stout turned out really well. The second half of the batch fermented for a week longer in the tank and had extra honey added, and it was a bit more full-bodied, so it's a note to self for next time. |
The only person in a band recording situation (when multi tracking, i.e. not live) that needs to be able to play to a click is a drummer. Unless they need a backing track to remember their parts. Then (if the song has a constant tempo) a click should really be used if possible. Makes mixing/editing like over 9000% easier.

This. Adobe Audition has a nifty feature that allows you to change the time scale from seconds to beats. It makes copying and pasting takes a whole lot easier. |
