I think complaining about SCORE is an example of being one of the 'Never Enough' people.

Cmon guys.. It's awesome enough to have DT play at Radio City and record another dvd so soon... but to do it with an Orchestra?? I think that deserves a little recognition. Sure, they were a bit out of tune at times, but as if that matters - the fact that they got an orchestra together and arranged music of such difficulty is mind-blowing enough!

For the record, DT only got to rehearse with the orchestra ONCE - and that was the DAY BEFORE the show. Also, they didn't have the idea to record a DVD or get an Orchestra until half way through the Octavarium tour.

Oh, and JP had a cold on the night of the performance and STILL played flawlessly. Give them some slack. They couldn't have done it any better.
uh i've acknowledged it as the best live DVD i've ever seen even out of DT's collection.
nothing is ever going to be perfect. it's a damn good DVD but i was just voicing my opinion on what could've been better
The only thing that bothers me about the dvd is not having 6 degrees split up in chapters. The reason why it bothers me is because my dvd player is my PS2, and anyone who uses the PS2 for dvds knows that the fast forward and rewind feature is SO SLOW. If I had a dvd player that had multiple fast forward speeds it wouldnt bother me. Thats my only gripe, and it only bothers me because the ps2 sucks for fast forwarding.:thumb:
Believe it or not but I was just getting pissed off 5 minutes ago about this.
 you quoted a post from November 2004.

Anyway, I think I watched Score for the 10th time last night.
Does the DVD hold more significance to you that you were there? I.e. is it more fun to watch?
Does the DVD hold more significance to you that you were there? I.e. is it more fun to watch?
Yes, it really makes a big difference. I love all their DVD's, but I couldnt watch any of them in their entirety 10 times in one month. With Score I can do that, not becuase I like the song selection better than any other DVD, but because I love reliving the experience of my first concert.

Its like having sex for the first time and it being recorded for your viewing pleasures later on in life.

Jev 09-20-2006 10:33 AM

That sounds quite creepy...

To each his own I guess.

ghettoeddo 09-20-2006 02:18 PM

well we know what genuine did on his first sexual experience :]

Clunge 09-20-2006 02:45 PM

I take it's Disc 2 of 6DOIT on the DVD?

If so, gash. Disc 1 > Disc 2.

I agree.

Being there makes it so much better because it lets you relive a great memory, especially since its one of DT's best moments in history.

Sorry man, that wasn't really aimed at you. I didn't mean to offend anyone, and I'm not angry or anything.

I like the 2nd disk and all but I gotta agree with you there. Would of been better if they played the 1st disk but I guess it wouldn't of fit as a dvd.

Inkstar 09-21-2006 03:29 AM

Can you imagine an orchestra playing to The Glass Prison? Haha :p

eug008 09-21-2006 05:13 AM

Yeah, pretty much my point there.

Jev 09-21-2006 08:13 AM

I would've loved to have seen Disappear though.

eug008 09-21-2006 08:25 AM

imo they should of played that insted of Vacant, was never really a fan of that song.

Jev 09-21-2006 08:27 AM

I don't think Vacant really worked with the full orchestra.

It should've been strings on their own or even better, a single Cello.

Hmm that doesn't all that good to me tbh

Imagine violins during the intro strumming pattern (The 3-2-00 or whatever it is)

Nah man you gotta have a full orchestra. anything less just doesn't cut it...

it's harder for guitar than it is for violins :]
actually i take that back.

imagine them doubling petrucci's arp solo >: )

eug008 09-21-2006 06:15 PM

 Thats somthing I'd like to hear.

Inkstar 09-21-2006 06:28 PM

MP chose Vacant because he had to do a ToT song (if you hadn't noticed, they play a song from every album), and he'd stated that on this DVD he wanted to do as much material as he could which hadn't already been done on DVD. Every other song on ToT had been done at Budokan, except for Honor Thy Father, but he probably realised it would be far too hard to orchestra something that heavy. But yeah... They also needed a bit of a break after the awesomeness that is 6DOIT.

IbanezSamurai 09-21-2006 06:46 PM

The thing that annoys me is that you can't skip through different songs during 6doit.

holy crapper 09-21-2006 07:05 PM

I want to like this band because john has a great dvd for learning guitar.
But I just cant get into it.
I havent listened to them alot though are they the kind of band that grows on you

ghettoeddo 09-21-2006 08:03 PM

yes. they are. for sure.

but dont force yourself to like them man.
everyone says start with I&W and SFAM...but i say hit up 6DOIT and 8vm first.

Yeah when I first heard them I didn't really dig the vocals, I just enjoyed a few songs etc. Learning To Live and The Glass Prison but after listening to them more you start to like them heaps :thumb:

ghettoeddo 09-21-2006 09:38 PM

6DOIT is the perfect album to start imo.
you've got real heavy like the glass prison, beautiful ballad like disappear, and a little bit more proggier side like the great debate.

Inkstar 09-21-2006 10:13 PM

Octavarium is the best album to start with, I would say. It displays everything they stand for. Rocky heavy songs like TROAE and Never Enough, then ballads like TALW, simple songs like IWBY, a perfect mix of prog and metal with Sacrificed Sons, and ultimate prog epics with 8VM. Really can't go wrong.
