I know, I was just helping you with your silly wording.

i am the robots 01-11-2008 01:41 AM

Okay, so Drowningman is definitely epic as hell, thanks Concubine.

I'm wondering if there's anything like Emmure that's actually pulled off well. Like a meloidic metalcore band with really heavy breakdowns, but actually good.

EDIT: Drowningman is kind of like Contrived, but in a completely different genre.

Concubine 01-11-2008 02:00 AM

i never listened to Emmure

when you say melodic metalcore, you mean stuff like Fordirelifesake, Shai Hulud?

i am the robots 01-11-2008 02:09 AM

I'm talking more metal-melodic metalcore. Like, Killswitch Engage type stuff, but I guess really heavy breakdowns instead of clean choruses. I just wanna know if a release of the sort exists outside of The Acacia Strain's second album that's actually good.

Concubine 01-11-2008 02:42 AM

hmm i don't listen to that type of stuff so i can't help you

Yeah, it's a really gay style, but when it's done right, it's orgasmic, though I've only ever heard it done right once. The next closest thing would be Through The Eyes Of The Dead, I'd say, but they're too death metal.

TTEOTD is epic as crap. Their older release was better but the new one has some ridiculous stuff too. As Good As Dead is a must hear song. it's incredible.

botb 01-11-2008 01:37 PM
I knew what the song was about before I even heard it (as if the title isn't obvious enough). The lyrics are so good too.
I think it's because I have a friend named Giles and I just always thought it was funny that he had a song named after him when his name was so off the wall. But he's probably named for Giles Corey and I never made that connection either :P

I honestly don't get why everyone likes them. I even saw them live and wasn't very impressed.

..so are you saying they have a few good songs but overall they're not that good?

I've seen TTEOTD at least 5 times, unfortunately never with Rich on guitar and once with Dayton on drums... all I can say is, up until they kicked out Anthony, their live show was the most incredible thing ever... I caught them on their first headlining tour (November 2006), got to scream with Anthony, got pulled on stage for Beneath Dying Skies, etc., then I saw them their next headlining tour (June 2007, with Nate) and it was the most monotonous garbage I've ever seen.

This is Through The Eyes Of The Dead:

This is not:

Note the only member in common is the rhythm guitarist?

ill agree they were a much better live band with anthony as a vocalist, see i like nate's vocals better but he just doenst bring the ruckus like anthony did. damn shame...

i am the robots 01-11-2008 04:02 PM

Nate's growl's too grunty and his highs are too forced, and his mids are too forced, but Anthony never warmed up, so you never knew if his vocals would sound right, or if his voice would just go all over his range (examples: accidental pig squeals instead of low inhales, even more ball-lessly high screams).

Regardless, Nate's terrible but still has a career in music, while Anthony's going into the marines. Moral of the story: don't go see your best friend's band when your own band has a show scheduled the same night.

i actually enjoy his lows and mids but i agree with his highs they do feel a bit forced. i did enjoy anthony's a lot too though

masscows 01-11-2008 05:17 PM

nate johnson is such a bad vocalist...I might not care so much about his lack of range if their music wasn't so bland now though.
he just doenst bring the ruckus like anthony did
is this a scene phrase or something? why do scene kids talk like hip hoppers?

i am the robots 01-11-2008 05:23 PM

I think it's in reference to As Blood Runs Black's one breakdown (which dummies fail to recognize as a Wu-Tang Clan reference in the first place).

Iluvatar 01-11-2008 05:23 PM

its a ****ing wu phrase yo

bring the mutha ****ing ruckus
