Well that depends where you do it. If your school/college does Music Technology, that might be a handy one, and some courses want some formal Music qualification. However the best place in the UK for it is Glamorgan (where I am) and here you just need Maths. (It's an Engineering subject, there are calculations)

I've barely started, we've not done any serious work just yet. My first lecture in Synthetic and Computer Audio Engineering is tomorrow - I'll keep you posted as to what kind of thing the course entails.

FUNKNBASS 10-06-2004 07:13 PM

Hey Winter, what up.

I'm EXTREMELY grateful to you.... I have one of the best engineering schools in the US very near, but I'm not sure whether they have a sound/recording engineer degree.... Research time.

Again, I can't thank you enough, Wintermute.

Wintermute 10-06-2004 07:20 PM

US? Somehow I thought you were in the UK. *shrugs*

The course I'm on seems to be a mix of Electrical Engineering and its applications with Sound Engineering. I've got a weekly three and a half hour session in a full professional standard digital/analogue recording studio, which I'm looking forward to!

Physics was on the list of things they'd appreciate but don't demand. Both for understanding of sound and of electronics.

PaulSimonon 10-06-2004 07:26 PM

The school is on the list of top ten schools in Electrical Engineering, so that is a good sign! I like physics, or the meager amount that I know, more than most math, another good sign, although I don't know much in that area.

I wonder if they would let you record in the studio? That would make me immensly happy if they did, even if it wasn't me. Probably more so if it was someone else, and I just watched....

Crapdragoon 10-06-2004 07:27 PM

So.... im thinking of joining teh military.... not sure what branch to join. Well i dont wanna join the army, thats for sure.

FUNKNBASS 10-06-2004 07:28 PM

Go down to the recruitment office they'll give you a ****load of panflets for each branch.

Wintermute 10-06-2004 07:28 PM

I'm sure they will - There's no point just having a studio if you don't record things in it. I know Uni bands do use it, for their own recordings and for practice for apprentice Sound Engineers! I'm sure knowing the lecturers and things running it will just make it easier to get access.

Espbassor 10-06-2004 07:29 PM

Hmm...anyone know how good of a school Full Sail is? I've heard a bunch from them but don't know how hard it is to get and and such and such...anyone know?
If not.....cheese.... :thumb:

That's one of the other schools I've been looking at, I've heard they are a good music school. Berklee school of music is, obviously, another good school, and if I go into Sound Engineering, it'll most likely be with good old Purdue!

they marines will take anyone.
you could get you piolates license in 6 months and go to the air force.
navy sucks your stuck on a boat or a sub for 6+ months
your fatass wont make it through the special forces training.
so id say go in as a cook or give hair cuts.

I figured you'd be looking at it :p I am really concerned with how hard it is to get in and what the requirements are. I don't think Berklee would let me in a 10 mile radius of it.

Me neither. I have a feeling Full Sail is easier to get into. I'm in-state for Purdue, so who knows......

in the navy you get to travel ALOT... and not just to Iraq... my brothers already been to austrailia, japan, all over asia, and to california... and hes been in the navy for like a year....

Left Shoe 10-06-2004 07:59 PM

FUNKNBASS 10-06-2004 08:02 PM

I like my head attached to my body too much to join the army.

Crapdragoon 10-06-2004 08:10 PM

.

PaulSimonon 10-06-2004 08:11 PM

Hmmm..... Maybe I'll go for an Electronics degree with an internship at the music production facility.... Sound good to anyone?

Crapdragoon 10-06-2004 08:12 PM

I plan on going to UTI , to get ASE certification (turnin' wrenches under cars) But if i cant go there then i might join the air force or navy or somethin'.

PaulSimonon 10-06-2004 08:14 PM

janyeno 10-06-2004 08:17 PM

sanray 10-06-2004 08:25 PM

man three people can control two pages. never do it again that is reserved for foxfire alone!
I was thinking about telling my band teacher that there are jazz versions of mario theme song and he said he was already thinking about doing that for marching band. my band teacher kicks as s. 2 weeks ago today I had a seizure (disease from my mom) and it was horrible (guys it was worse than a swift kick in the groin x 10) but since then I can joke about it. oh teacher I can't take this test I might have a seizure. hehehe but I never went to the hospital or home. they asked me why I didn't want to leave and I said I wasn't going to do make up work. they looked at me like I was crazy. it happened in gym class and I had to be wheel-chaired into my next hour, because I couldn'twalk and my teacher marked me tardy he sucks. the nurse said my body was shutting down that's why I couldn't; walk, see, hear, or coherenlty speak. it really sucked.nausea :upset: :(
