weird stuff.....

chorbalan 09-17-2006 03:50 PM

Yeah, that was wicked. It must have been hard to arange musically, and don't even wanna think about how hard it was choreographically.

ghettoeddo 09-17-2006 09:40 PM

yea imagine dancing to 11/16 or something.

I would just like to refute any statements I have ever made against Jordan Rudess. He is insanely good. Same goes for John Petrucci.

I still hate DT's music though.

Inkstar 09-18-2006 06:06 AM

Now all you have to do is put out the same respect for the other 3. :P

Charlie Manson 09-18-2006 06:18 AM

So how's DT going these days?

eug008 09-18-2006 06:21 AM

Not too bad man, pumpin the Score CD right now. You should check it out Plexi since you have only heard I&W right?

Charlie Manson 09-18-2006 06:33 AM

I might just do that.

Hahaha, true. It really is painful for me to listen to their music - I just can't identify with it on any level, emotional or musical - but I'll give it a shot, paying specific attention to the rest of the band. I only have Scenes From A Memory...

Check out Images & Words. Some great stuff on there. Also, 'Take Away My Pain' is about the death of JP's father, so if you want an emotional level that one's a great song. Very nice to listen to. :)

ofuk.

Wait since when was that posted here?

Chu 09-19-2006 08:21 AM

It wasn't posted here, it's on been on MP's forums.

Jev 09-19-2006 10:18 AM

Dream Theater never get angry...
They're not human.

ghettoeddo 09-19-2006 02:13 PM

haha cuz DT knows they kick the **** outta mastodon.
thank god for portnoy being mature

and yea misunderstood is godly. one of my favorite songs ever

Altmer 09-19-2006 02:27 PM

forgive me but I don't even know who Mastodon are

But I do know that DT kicks their *** anyway, whoever they are, because DT can act mature.

I actually think a lot of DT songs are quite coherent. The problem is there aren't enough of them to make an album coherent usually (barring SFAM and I&W imo).

That's why I think most stuff they release is just hard to get into; the songs sometimes don't make any sense.

Singing is a good thing in metal, but LaBrie can be iffy live...so I don't know where Mastodon get their opera comment from, because LaBrie is no Turunen... by any means.

eug008 09-19-2006 05:33 PM

You heard LaBrie on their new Live CD/DVD yet? He's pretty ace.

Atica 09-19-2006 07:37 PM

He sings preety good in the new DVD. Score si so ****ing awesome and the orchesta made an amazing work.

ghettoeddo 09-19-2006 08:10 PM
He sings preety good in the new DVD. Score si so ****ing awesome and the orchesta made an amazing work.
the orchestra was acctually what disappointed me the most...don't get me wrong i thought it was fantastic but it was a little out of tune at times. especially in 6 degrees...and the pizzicato for vacant was not a tasteful choice.

still much better than metallica's S&M or something because they knew when to stay out and the orchestration was overall better. kudos for putting that all together in the amount of time they had

eighty d 09-19-2006 08:16 PM

It's the tuning that bothers me most with the orchestra. And the fact that it's really string-dominated. IMO War Inside My Head NEEDED a powerful horn section, and it just wasn't there. The orchestra sounded aweful in that section actually.

Still an amazing performance as a whole. All the members of DT were spot on from what I've heard (only listened a couple times).

Lionheart1827 09-19-2006 08:54 PM

The only thing that bothers me about the dvd is not having 6 degrees split up in chapters. The reason why it bothers me is because my dvd player is my PS2, and anyone who uses the PS2 for dvds knows that the fast forward and rewind feature is SO SLOW. If I had a dvd player that had multiple fast forward speeds it wouldnt bother me. Thats my only gripe, and it only bothers me because the ps2 sucks for fast forwarding.:thumb:

ghettoeddo 09-19-2006 11:07 PM

yea that feature kinda stunk even though it's supposed to be one song.
classical symphonies are broken into different movements even though they're all considered to be part of the whole, and identified as the whole.

...nevermind.

Inkstar 09-20-2006 05:43 AM

I think complaining about SCORE is an example of being one of the 'Never Enough' people.

Cmon guys.. It's awesome enough to have DT play at Radio City and record another dvd so soon... but to do it with an Orchestra?? I think that deserves a little recognition. Sure, they were a bit out of tune at times, but as if that matters - the fact that they got an orchestra together and arranged music of such difficulty is mind-blowing enough!

For the record, DT only got to rehearse with the orchestra ONCE - and that was the DAY BEFORE the show. Also, they didn't have the idea to record a DVD or get an Orchestra until half way through the Octavarium tour.

Oh, and JP had a cold on the night of the performance and STILL played flawlessly. Give them some slack. They couldn't have done it any better.
couldn't resist, great band, love them

images and words is my fav by them

does anyone have the train of thought live cd?

I think it's cool, although James holds back a bit too much with singing, maybe to safe his voice?

good nontheless
I have a couple of songs from the Album, not the actual album though

 you quoted a post from November 2004.

Anyway, I think I watched Score for the 10th time last night.
