is there like...a search i can use to look through this thread? so i can see if someones asked for this before?
I was wondering if someone could recommend some extreme music for me. I'm not to concerned with technical music, just as long as it's brutal. Right now I'd like it if someone could recommend some good Grindcore. Bands I've heard of: Dying Fetus, Brodequin, Thegalvinwilhelmmillerquartet, er...not much other grind. Any good recommendations are great, whether it's grind or not. Thanks. links to sites would also be great. |
Top right of the page, just above the postcount number of the first post, is the search function.
Grindcore albums to try; Napalm Death (some stuff, mostly their earlier albums; try Scum, one of the defining grind albums) Carcass - again, earlier stuff only (like Napalm, they moved to death metal later). Their grind albums are Reek of Putrefaction and Symphonies of Sickness. Brutal Truth - Extreme Conditions Demand Extreme Responses Brutal Truth - Need For Control Extreme Noise Terror - Holocaust in Your Head Terrorizer - World Downfall Total Fucking Destruction - all their stuff is up for download here, I think. Bolt Thrower are grind/death metal, and are awesome, so check them out. Just for information though, Dying Fetus (not sure about Brodequin, and haven't heard of the last one) aren't really grind. |
I'm kinda stuck.
What 'genre' would Where I'm Going by Down fall under? Need to know to try and find some more similar stuff. Does anyone have any recommendations for a person that loves that song for similar sounding songs/artists? |
Don't know that song, but Down are stoner metal.
|
Yeah but this song is definitley not metal, it's acoustic, sounds very...American...I don't know the word for it...not folky, probably bluesy seeing as blues > rock ~ metal or something or other.
|
I haven't heard that particular song, but maybe Corrosion of Conformity and Halfway to Gone would do as similar artists. I can't upload anything for you to see at the moment though.
|
I just DL'd some Corrosion of Conformity and it's really good, but it's not quite I was looking for.
|
CoC are more metal than what it sounded like you wanted, yeah, but I thought it might be worth mentioning. Halfway to Gone might be closer.
Assuming you've downloaded some of their later stuff though, is that the kind of sound you were getting at with "American"? |
Yeah that sound was what I was trying to get at.
|
Hello. I'm just back from Megadeth where Dungeon were the support act. Before the night I'd not heard anything by them....they played very well and the singer sounded a bit too much like Bruce Dickenson. Anyway, could anyone recommend me a few of their songs, or their best album.
Spank you. |
Can anyone recommend some stuff by Maters of Reality? Thanks
|
can someone recommend me some bands like kalmah
|
can someone recommend me some bands like kalmah
You probably already know Norther and Bodom... And some people probably disagree, but I think they're a lot like At the Gates. |
Not too much...youre talking about Kalmah right?
|
Is Frances the Mute worth the money? I mean I heard some pretty different comments about it. I loved De-loused and also the single from Fances, The Widow. Some say that thereīs a lot of weird noise through the album, and that this is kinda bitching. But others say that the songs are great, with a latin vibe to it and also a great guitar work by Omar and John. So, is Frances "that good" or "that bad"?
|
It's good, but it's also that bad as well.
I say buy it, some of it really rocks, and the not so rocky bits you can fast forward. |

Okay guys, which Judas Priest album should I buy, and why?(ok, you don't have to explain why). Either:
Screaming for Vengeance Sad Wings of Destiny Painkiller Thanks. |
I would say Painkiller AND I will explain.
Almost every song is awesome, the drumming is amazing, the vocals are different, so if you're used to Breaking the Law, it may be wierd, but again, awesome. Solos and riffs are amazing. After that, I would say SFV because it's one of their defining moments. |
I'm looking for a band with interesting rythm, not overly simplistic drums, and odd time signatures, preferably one with melodic guitars
Thanks in advance |
Can someone recommend me a good thrash metal band?
thanks |
Exodus - Get Bonded By Blood and Tempo Of The Dam.ned
Sodom - Try Agent Orange and Persectution Mania Kreator - Get Pleasure To Kill and Coma Of Souls (althouth any of their first five albums are worth hearing) Dark Angel - Darkness Descends Sadus - Illusion/Chemical Exposure (here's a link to the whole album in mp3 Sadus - Illusions/Chemical Exposure (not sure if it works though) Overkill - Try The Years Of Decay Vio-lence - Get Eternal Nightmare or Opressing The Masses That should be enough to get you started, and i'm sure you know the big four etc. |

Thanks in advance
Try Tool, Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater. Dream Theater have a lot of shred/technical guitar/keyboard work but they also have a fair amount of melody. |

Anything that is from the 70s/80s that's popular, has some nice guitar riffs, and has some sing-a-long-able lyrics... suggest me songs by like Clapton/Cream, ACDC, Rush, Hendrix, Led Zep, Beatles, Pink Floyd, or anything that really fits an oldies genre.

Posted in the wrong bit before, so here it is : >
If you like Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment is a must listen to band. Same with O.S.I and all their other side projects which can be found off their site. This may be a good website for you http://www.progarchives.com Other quick tips; Pain of Salvation, Superior, Threshold, Symphony X and Rush (they aren't metal but they were a huge influence on the Dream Theater guys. |

Thanks in advance
I think you just described Biffy Clyro, they mix time sigs all the time, and have a great rhythm section, though the guitar may not be what you are looking for. Try the songs The Weapons are Concealed, Joy.Discovery.Invention and something like My Recovery Injection. If you can find Being Gabriel give that a listen it's a fantastic song but it is hard to find. |
symphony x is for you
as well as most other prog maybe some dream theater or pain of salvation, on the other hand, try some a prefect cirlce, |

I donīt believe this is against the rules, since the name of the thread is "the official MUSIC recommendation thread", so Iīd like to ask for some good bebop jazz bands recommendations. And before someone starts flamming me, yes, I tried the Jazz & Funk forum, but unfortunatelly it takes years for someone to reply you. Thanks! :thumb:

OK!!! This is the thread...
Does anyone have a good clue as to some songs that sound like Tool - Disposition? I want to make a CD full of these kinds of songs. Not really for meditating, but kind of relaxing music, the kind of music where you don't have to think about what you are listening to. Suggestions? |
can anyone recomend some groovy acid rock tracks like the soft parade by the doors. thanks a lot
