I can understand why you guys don't use the review site as much as the forums, but if we ever want to see a Hip Hop forum here, then we need to really push the review site. I'd love to see you write a Hip Hop review Antiant, you might not like reading other people's oppinions, but it'd be great to see you put accross your own.
I've gotta review some more Hip Hop too, I swore that I would, but havn't gotten round to it. I still pln on reviewing one or both of Dizzee's albums, it's just about finding the time. Also, if you guys don't have time to write full review, maybe do soundoffs, or at the very least try and post in the Hip Hop listening Parties. the current one is for Cypress Hill, access it here; http://www.sputnikmusic.com/party.php?party=36 |
nope, i could careless what other people's opinions on a particular album is, i listen for me, therefore it's pointless to me
Then why do you discuss albums here? I care about the opinions of others, because they can help me find stuff I enjoy. |
When I get the time and the motivation, I'm gonna review American Hunger.
|

The new Ice Cube single is pretty cool.
1337 post count. |
When I get the time and the motivation, I'm gonna review American Hunger.
I wouldnt mind trying it either, but not any time soon. It's too huge, I'm not ready! |
So I'm DIGGING blackalicious atm
|
You know what really annoys me? Skits. I'd like to know who could possibly think they could improve an album by including skits.
|
I know.
Skits are rarely funny. They infuriate me. |
You guys listen to Atmosphere?
|
You know what really annoys me? Skits. I'd like to know who could possibly think they could improve an album by including skits.
The skits on Operation Doomsday are really awesome, though they're barely skits.
And yeah, I listen to Atmosphere. Fuck You Lucy is one of my favorite rap songs of all time. |

Deltron 3030 has cool skits. I need to buy Blackalicious albums that aren't Blazing Arrow. |
Yeah.
Skits are cool sometimes if they go along with the whole story of the album. I don't mind listining to a song and than suddenly just hear 40 minutues of something other than singing. |
Actually yeah, the skits on Deltron 3030 are possibly the least irritating I've heard. But they still don't make the album any better.
The Craft is worth a listen. It's nowhere near the brilliance of Blazing Arrow, but it has some great tracks. |
I don't remeber the Deltron skits. I should probably relisten to that CD anyways.
|
I don't even really listen to them.
They just play. Maybe they'd help me understand the album better. So Maybe I should check out Blackalicious as well. |
Yeah, everyone that hasn't checked out Blackalicious should check out Blackalicious. Blazing Arrow is the album you need.
|
the Lucy Ford EPs are bloody amazing, I was listening to it earlier today. His later material is still good, but he seemed to lose it a little over time. This line's a personal favourite of mine:
I watched the children scurry in circles around a two-way mirror, worrying about which side of the glass projects the reflection clearer.
|
I don't even really listen to them.

Oh Cocaine.
I only have God Loves Ugly. Just got it from my friend. I gave him ATCQ The Low End Theory; aight I'll check them out sepstrup. |
I need to get some Blackalicious, badly.
Lucy Ford is pretty good so far. All I've heard in full is God Loves Ugly, which is pretty great. |
If they're short and snappy, then Skits don't really irritate me. But yeah, albums are usually better without them.
|
The bass on Lucy Ford is pretty spectacular. The production in general is great, but I think I prefer God Loves Ugly.
|
Atmosphere is a personal favorite of mine. Lucy Ford is probably the best thing he ever put out.
Right now I'm downloading Tash - Rap Life, you guys ever heard it? |
The skits on Operation Doomsday are really awesome, though they're barely skits.
That's exactly what I was going to say. MF Doom's skits are usually quite entertaining, I find. As is MF Doom. I listened to approx. one third of American Hunger before it got to tedious. Not that it isn't good i was quite impressed. just long. tough to review no doubt. |
I mean, if you think about it, the fact that you listened to a third of it means that you listened to a full album. I don't think a triple album is seriously intended to be listened to all at once. It took me two days to listen to the whole thing.
|
Then why do you discuss albums here? I care about the opinions of others, because they can help me find stuff I enjoy.
discussion is different than reading reviews, mostly i recommend things and or say a comment here or two, i don't really get into discussion if you've noticed and as far as reviews helping you out, i don't really need that with music (for the most part), i find it on my own and make my own decisions of yay or nay accordingly ;) |
on skits, they suck...i wish someone would come out with an album and spit nothing but fiyah from the beginning to the end, where it made you say WHOA!?! seriously, if you want to show your spoken word side, your comical side etc, save that for a dvd release or something, not an album release, many rappers seem to be doing that anyways for extra cash
|
you guys should check out eternia from canada/us http://eternia.ca/ and http://www.myspace.com/eternia :thumb:
|
The College Dropout has some of the most unbearable skits I've heard.
|
Kanye West really does need to lay off the friggin skits.
And, yeah, American Hunger isn't a one sitting kind of album. Breakfast, Lunch and Last Supper, spread it accordingly. |
Last Registration's skits make me want to throw up.
HBMS's White People has some funny skits though. |
The College Dropout has some of the most unbearable skits I've heard.
Haha. Yeah. |
Has anyone heard Kanye's new/live album? I've heard nothing but good things about it, but the whole not being sold in America thing makes it hard to hear.
|

|
For the record, I just listened to Grimm's The Downfall Of Ibliys: A Ghetto Opera, and it's also very good. Doom is on a couple tracks.
|
Haha MF Doom is on everything now-a-days.
|
Has anyone heard Kanye's new/live album? If it's new i'll get to downloading that, then up it for the mailing list or something.
