Of course I am. I always am. If I'm online, I'm just in the commie thread repeatedly clicking the refresh button. :p

/slight overstatement.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-12-2005 09:52 PM

ATM-Where do you snowboard?

ATM 04-12-2005 09:53 PM

I snowboard in PA mainly. I was just up in Boston snowboarding, which was awesome. Did you try the test I posted?

Jom 04-12-2005 09:53 PM

I'm listening to the Gorillaz right now. Obscure. I'm also reading about Trajan.

So I had a floor meeting tonight, and it was mandatory. Roommate walks in twenty minutes late like a douche.

My parents are coming up this weekend to help clean and take stuff back... he's not going to be happy when the stuff he uses to cook with (my stuff) gets taken away for the last two weeks. Also, since he hasn't bothered to clean all semester, I'm going to get some help.

Then, we're driving to the lake for some awesomeness... so long it doesn't rain. I hope not... I hate driving across the state in bad weather.

On a sidenote, I wish that lots of things besides leaves grew on trees.

ATM 04-12-2005 09:56 PM

When I was younger, I planted a battery trying to make a battery tree.

Man, I don't know about you guys, but if I were going to the lake with just my family I would get bored very fast.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-12-2005 10:00 PM

No way. Me and my parents have tons of fun at 'the lake.' We bring our boat down to Fishhook resort and I ski, wakeboard, kneeboard, and innertube. It's really quite fun. :p I also pull my dad on skis occaisionally. He's fat, so it's funny.

I heart wakeboarding.

Jom 04-12-2005 10:01 PM

I didn't explain myself properly, then.

Lake Michigan is on the westside of the state, my permanent residence is on the eastside. They have never been to said lake... and the sand is extremely soft and very white, so they just want to drive out there and see it, since it's less than a half-hour away from my uni.

That, and to get away from the shitstorm my roomie is going to thunder up :)

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-12-2005 10:24 PM

:p

Did the forums eff up?

Recommended listen of the evening.

So when you go to the lake you aren't waterskiing or anything? I love water skiing, it's so awesome :) And Jet skiing too. Ironically all the watersports I partake in are mainly at the reservoir. Though I do scuba dive too

Jom 04-12-2005 10:31 PM

Godhead did a cover of "Eleanor Rigby" as well.

Well, I am not sure what we're doing when we go... I think my dad just wants to go to the lake since he hasn't seen that lake yet. And plus it gives us something to do. The sand is sososo white and soft, like it should be. It also gives us the opportunity to go out to dinner and escape uni food :)

I like Godhead's cover a lot too...but I lost it :(

Escaping uni food is worth it all lol. I only eat fast food heh :-/

Illmatic 04-12-2005 10:36 PM

AH's talks about Lake Michigan(?) have gotten me thinking about the summer, which will start for me in about a month

I can't wait to go back to the Cape. The past two years me and a few friends would go up to a rented house in the Cape for a week or two. Maybe this year my gf will join us.

Cape Cod is so different from the rest of MA. I love it.
pigonthewing82: IF you like Hicks that much, you have to check out Lenny Bruce (similar to Hicks in terms of dark style, and in terms of overall impact on culture; probably the most culturally important comic in American history, if not world history), George Carlin (could have been more than "just a comic" a la Hicks and Bruce, but got "angry" and turned into a poor man's Sam Kinison), and David Cross (also similar to Hicks in some ways)
Kinison turned to crap too though; I'd say moreso than Carlin. Carlin at least still makes me laugh. Lenny Bruce's later shows lost their sparkle as the years went on (reading his court transcripts on stage, etc), which was something Hicks never had.

The only other person I'd put on a level with Hicks and Lenny Bruce, is Richard Pryor. This moves completely away from political comedy and necessarily intelligent observations, but purely in terms of stand-up comedy brilliance, he's probably the best ever. Hicks had his off-shows (when he went off his head at the audience, usually), and Bruce had his longer, slower decline at the end of his career, but Pryor basically went unchallenged as the greatest until he had to give it up.

Kurtz 04-12-2005 10:45 PM

Dunno about you guys, but I think Rodney Dangerfield ruled.

Nowhere near the level of Lenny, Hicks, and Pryor though.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-12-2005 10:45 PM

That dude Ralphy from The Last Comic Standing was funny.

Dangerfield was awesome, yeah. He died only just last year, didn't he? :(

He was probably the best at pulling off jokes about wives and mothers-in-law without sounding incredibly lame. And he did great things in promoting unknown comics in his clubs and things (Bill Hicks amongst them).

Illmatic 04-12-2005 10:50 PM

That's why Hicks is the best. And I explained my point about Carlin earlier in the thread. Carlin basically moved into being a Kinison-type abrasive comic later in his career, when he was funnier earlier on IMO.

I can't say I disagree. Pryor was drop-dead hilarious.

I liked his standup, but I always felt his performance in Caddyshack was better than his standup, and was one of the three or four funniest movie performances of all time.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-12-2005 10:53 PM

I think Tom Morello would make a good comedian. Some of his interviews are just halarious.

May 9th

And no, not everyone has the accent.

I know people at BU (which is good academically, but its students are annoying as hell), BC (fun school, actually), Emerson (liberal hippie school!), UMass-Amherst (not Boston, but bite me), Holy Cross (ditto).

For better or for worse, there really is no place in the country like Boston.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-12-2005 11:03 PM

I've been to Boston. I was maybe when I was 4 or something. The only thing I can remember is riding in one of those Barbi powerwheel things.

Don't get me wrong, I've been there, it's a great town, but I don't know what it has that New York or Chicago doesn't.

I've been thinking about going to BC, seeing as I've only heard good things about it. I'm trying not to go to college here [Southern CA].

EDIT: but, after college, I'd probably come back here, get a good job at some national company, then move to the East Coast [Beantown or New York], see if I like life over there as opposed to over here.

I haven't heard glowing reviews about BC, but I digress. The East Coast has a ton of good schools, though. I could type out a list from memory of all the schools who were interested in me, if you're interested.

If you have the time, sure.

One of the only schools I've been interested over here is ASU, but I hope emofag will be gone by the time I apply there. [jak kay zepfan]

NYU has always interested me. Tuition has always been in the way though. My old folks can't really afford $40,000 a year for 4 years, so forget MIT. Not that I would even get in there.

Go figure.

You're going to music school later if memory serves me right, correct?
