Aight. :)
With Grief, I assume you mean the american band and not the Icelandic or English one? |
Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Grief I'm talking about it American.
|
There is one other Grief that you could mean a drone/ doom band, one man,
But he hasn't released anything. I'll be looking out for the american one. :) |
Yeah, I checked up, and I was talking about the American band. If you want, you can go to their myspace and listen to some songs. World Of Hurt is a great song.

Thanks man.
Also: Because I'd like to knw and because this thread could use a new sicussion impulse: Does listening to (funeral/drone/stoner/sludge) doom influence your state of mind? Do you get depressed by listening to it, or does it not affect you? Or do you get affected in some other way, like get happy (eg Stoner music) My answer: I'm not really affected by the music I listen to, I listen a lot of Funeral Doom, one of the most depresing genres I could think off. But I dn't get :( because of listening to this genre. Same with any other 'slow' genre. Stoner makes me relaxed and layed back ( I don't smoke while listening to it, but still). How about you guys? |
Nah, it doesn't really affect the mood I'm in. It can bring me from upset to happy though, just not the other way around. I remember the first time I heard Thergothon, it put me in such a good mood because it was so good, haha. Usually with Doom, it just puts me in, like you said, somewhat of a relaxed state. It never actually makes me depressed, but I can still enjoy the beauty of it's depression.

I did a balanced, objective little peice on Candlemass's "Nightfall" on the reviews site. Have read if you want an even, non-sensational view on the place of this album in the metal pantheon.

Like Blut Aus Nord - The Work Which Transforms God, Wolves In The Throne Room - Diadem Of 12 Stars, and Leviathan - The Tenth Sublevel Of Suicide. And Sigur Ros - ( ), but that's not really Black Metal :p Do any of you listen to Giant Squid? I love this band, I've been listening to them ever since my friend told me about them, after he saw them live with Aggaloch and Wolves In The Throne Room. |
I only know Giant Squid because they're on The End records.
But besides that I draw a blanc. Any recommendations? :) |

It's extremely good though, check out the songs Neonate, Summit, and Revolution In The Water. Neonate is my favorite though, the riff in the song is so awesome, I have it stuck in my head forever after I listen to it :p |

KHANATE Calls It Quits - Sep. 24, 2006
"Extreme doom" metal band KHANATE, the brainchild of Stephen O'Malley (THORR'S HAMMER, BURNING WITCH, SUNN 0))), LOTUS EATERS) and James Plotkin (OLD, SCORN, ATOMSMASHER), has disbanded. In a statement, Plotkin writes, "I have decided to leave KHANATE due to the lack of commitment of certain members. The decision was a difficult one, as I've put six years and immeasurable amounts of creativity into the band hoping to take it as far as possible. The past year has brought about many missed opportunities and the realization that some players are more concerned with personal careers and day jobs rather than the advancement of music as an artform. "I will continue to work with drummer Tim Wyskida on a number of other projects, mainly KHLYST and our improvisational duo. "Gratitude to all those that have supported what we have done and acknowledged our importance in modern music. "The companion album to 'Capture & Release' is currently being mixed. This yet untitled work consists of spontaneous recordings made during the 'C&R' sessions dating back to February 2005. This will be my final work in KHANATE. There are plans for Japanese issues of the self-titled and 'Things Viral' CDs with expanded packaging and bonus discs with unreleased material." :( |

Why "eh'?
Is that good or bad? |
It's just not caring. I wish I could acknowledge their importance, as he so eloquently put it, but I don't really find them to be all that important.
|
I enjoyed their music, that's all for me.
I don't find them to be very important, but still it's a shame. :( |
The new Katatonia was really good. I'll be sure to give it more listenings soon.
|
:D
Yes it's awesome eh? Jonas has such emotive vocals. Have you seen this: http://metal-videos.blogspot.com/2006/07/katatonia-concert-in-poland.html Live gig, awesome quality. |
i never gave Katatonia a second chance ... i still prefer their death-doom era... and i love Brave Murder Day... this album is just perfect.
|
I love the part in the song Deliberation where he says: "See us sleep behind the glass, unaware of crime. Wil you wake us up before it is time?"
Great album. That concert you linked to is awesome. I get to see them this November, I'm so excited. :D |
BMD is awesome, but I must say, I enjoy their rock-ish stuff better now.
Melancholy. :D |
i don't know but i can't stand the lyrics...
so which rock-ish album their best one? |
Why not?
|
I love Jonas lyrics.
Let me find some of my favorites: My lips are dry you gave me drugs to try Hold me when I die The sky has frozen to a wall We die we all |
i have the great cold distance and viva emptiness - which is better?
|
Viva Emptiness is probably better because it's less produced and is more consistent throughout. I love that album so much. Plus, it's more unique, whereas TGCD basically just extended what they did on Viva Emptiness with better production.
|
VE is way more vocal driven, which is never bad with such an amzaing vocalist.
TGCD is great too, but I prefer VE. A Premonition is so awesome, with the mellotron and Jonas vocal line following it's lead. I'm going to play the album right now actually. :D |
two more songs and the Hollenthon cd will end... then i will listen to VE.
|
I'm listening to TGCD, but VE is next up on my playlist. My favorite song on VE is Evidence. The ending, "I'm the evidence, you passed the test and that's so good for you.." is killer.
two more songs and the Hollenthon cd will end... then i will listen to VE.
Sweet, let us know. |
Killer as well:
Look at me now they have cut my hair It's a long way back They kicked me down and I could not rise I will never arrive Great! Repcak: Wht Hollenton cd do you have? I heard a few songs by them on i-net radio, pretty cool. |
