sandinista is a piece of art.it's just...HUGE.

CombatRock 03-20-2005 05:45 PM
Original pressing... wow.

And to Travis, yea, the US version is the one with the sirens at the beginning.

By the way has anybody ever heard the version of Career Opportunities on Sandinista? Its really funny .
whats so funny about it?

guns_of_brixton 03-20-2005 06:27 PM
whats so funny about it?
The vocals are done by a little kid, and the lines "I hate the army an' I hate the R.A.F. I don't wanna go fighting in the tropical heat. I hate the civil service rules, and I won't open letter bombs for you." are replaced with "I hate all of my school's rules. They just think that I'm another fool."

Coma_Girl 03-20-2005 08:04 PM

Joe was one funny guy. It's enough to make the song funny.Even when the song is about something serious, theres always a line that makes me laugh

white_riot 03-20-2005 08:08 PM

I have the UK Version and White Riot doesnt sound live. I'm pretty sure it is not live.

guns_of_brixton 03-20-2005 08:11 PM

I just want my 1000th post to say that Joe Strummer is my hero. Death or Glory is a serious song, but I always crack a smile when I hear " He who fu.cks nuns will later join the church." Joe may have left us, but this thread will always keep him alive :).

That last part sounded a bit religous.

skankinBassist 03-20-2005 08:13 PM

Congrats on the 1,000!!

Joe Strummer is a god.

guns_of_brixton 03-20-2005 08:15 PM

El_Shiznit 03-20-2005 09:49 PM

You had better remember Ska_Pirate's name.

It's the same as mine, and that is important.

Silvermedalmafia 03-20-2005 10:07 PM

El_Shiznit 03-20-2005 10:09 PM

My grandma told me Dustin is a french name!

But it's okay, she's really old and I don't believe a word she says

Old people know nothing.

Forest_Fire 03-21-2005 07:07 PM

Except Joe. He did. Although he wasn't exactly old.

*Tries to move thread back on course so it won't be closed

guns_of_brixton 03-21-2005 08:39 PM

If it was closed, I'd beg them to re-open it.

Also, does anyone know what Ivan Meets G.I. Joe is about? Its avery strange song indeed.

Coma_Girl 03-21-2005 08:40 PM

wrong.they know everything...they just forget a lot.

I think Joe would have been awesome at politics. With Joe Strummer as a president, the world would be safe and (almost) perfect.have you ever thought about it?seriously. :amaze:

I'm not so sure. He said "If Karl Marx couldn't make the world a better place, how can 4 guitarists from London?" But you never know, Joe was a very humble guy.

Forest_Fire 03-21-2005 08:57 PM

Joe is too much of a "True" guy to be in politics. Nobody would like him, because he wouldn't be telling everyone want they wanted to hear. I think he delevired his messages in the perfect way though

guns_of_brixton 03-21-2005 09:10 PM

Yea, I think Joe was too true for politics. Complete Control might work well as a campaign song though :D.

EDIT: Holy crap, I've got 302 posts in here.

Wow, I'm a Clash whore.

Coma_Girl 03-21-2005 09:18 PM

I'm not saying he would have liked being president, and that people (except us) would have voted for him, but he had great ideas.I've read something in a french magazine....The readers voted Joe as the artist they would have wanted for president.Joe answered with his 'electoral program' and it was really good.I need to find it and to scan it...I wonder if he ever realized he is so important to some people...maybe Sean is right...he was too humble to know it.or at least to know just how much he had an impact on younger generation

Coma_Girl 03-21-2005 09:19 PM
Wow, I'm a Clash whore.
:upset: you beat me.

guns_of_brixton 03-21-2005 09:23 PM

True, I don't think any of the Clash knew how "big" they were until Joe died. I think White Riot posted a Topper quote about that.

CombatRock 03-21-2005 10:05 PM

yea..with out Joe i think they would just be another rock and roll band...i dont think Mick would have led the clash in the direction that Joe did
