I Don't Suppose Anybody Could Ysi Renegades For Us At All Please?

Shaft! 08-11-2005 09:53 PM
Don't forget that Renegades was a cover album so if you disliked the bass line it would have little / nothing to do with Tim. I didn't really notice a decline in his writing, I love his bass playing but it works alot better with RATM than Audioslave.

I guess I'm in a minority with liking Battle For L.A. Some of my favourite songs are on that album, ie. Ashes In The Fall, Calm Like A Bomb, Born Of A Broken Man, and a few others.
I haven't forgotten than Renegades was a cover album. No worries there.
Possibly, it's just that he used more techniques from those inspirations they covered in BoLA and Audioslave.
I'm only critical of the bass on BoLA because it's the only album where it's extremely easy for me to play. It's personal.
I like all of the songs off BoLA that you listed, along with "Maria" and "War Within A Breath".
I accidentally took the name Inside Out for my band and a year after I adopted it, I realized I had taken it from an article in which Zack's pre-Rage band was mentioned. :upset:

Mambuto_O'Mally 08-16-2005 10:25 PM

Well I was gone for two weeks, and I picked up The Battle of Mexico City and Live At The Grand Olympic Auditorium (on DVD, I have the CD). I was very dissapointed with No Shelter on LATGOA. Tim tried pushing his bass way to much and it ruins the song. But the rest of both are pretty good. :thumb:

Darkness 08-16-2005 10:27 PM

Their great dvds. Both quality performances with exalent quality.

You have the self titled one? Its just as good.

MachinegunFoot 08-16-2005 10:54 PM

Renegades of Funk!

YouGottaBeCrazy 08-16-2005 11:48 PM
The first song I ever learned on drums was "Bulls on Parade" :thumb:

Evil Empire is probably my favorite cd of Rage....
Do you have all their albums? I find EE to be their weakest.

hamster 08-17-2005 01:44 AM

rage is one of my favorite bands. I don't think one can compare one album to another becuase they are all great.

Mambuto_O'Mally 08-17-2005 07:35 AM
Do you have all their albums? I find EE to be their weakest.
That's your opinion. Personnally, I have 5 of their CD's and Evil Empire is my favorite. :thumb:

I'm aware that's my opinion.

Shaft! 08-17-2005 11:41 AM

Ok man, don't get too defensive about it. We're all friends here. :thumb:
I recently played a Music Man Stingray bass like Tim did for the s/t and it was beautiful. I jammed on "Bombtrack" for a while before moving on to "Know Your Enemy" and it had the sweetest tone...
I wonder when Fender or Music Man will give Tim his signature bass. Certainly he is of star status enough so that his signature series would sell like mad.

Darkness 08-17-2005 11:52 AM

Doesn't he wind his own pickups?

He doesn't want his tone being reproduced. He goes through extensive lengths to prevent that, so I doubt he'll be getting a sig even if a company offers.

Darkness 08-17-2005 11:57 AM

Yeah, that to.

Shaft! 08-17-2005 12:27 PM

That makes sense.
He might wind his own pickups, but he uses older pickups for his tone. I think he uses '72 pickups currently. I'm not exactly sure.

L' Via L' Viaquiz 08-17-2005 09:03 PM

Im sure this has been posted before, but there is a really good site full of r.a.t.m bootlegs, most of the battle of l.a era, but some are from before their self-titled. Just go to www.funkblast.com . I think the site is great but thats probably because im a huge r.a.t.m fan. So check it out it good stuff.

P.S if this was already posted im sorry, thread is sooooo long.

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-17-2005 09:16 PM

His tone is freaking impossible to reproduce. I've never devoted more time tweaking my tone than when I try to emulate Morello's tone. It's just so unique, and it varies so much. Plus, unless you have a nice set of old British tubes laying around, you're not going to be able to do it, even with a thousand dollar effects processor. :p

Shaft! 08-17-2005 09:19 PM

I don't know, Tim was featured on a U.K. Fender site and so I was wondering if a signature series would come into effect.
Ah, times are rough between me and my girl, so there's nothing better to make me calm down than "Wake Up". Not sure why, but that song helps me snap out of my depression. :)
I do love a good mellow out.

no worries demonhunter, if everone else is as big a fan as i am, then they should enjoy.

L' Via L' Viaquiz 08-17-2005 11:29 PM

well im not too sure whats going on, unless its just for me, but it seems you need an account to view songs, it wasnt even two weeks ago i was on it and listening to songs. Sorry about this guys.

Darkness 08-17-2005 11:38 PM

You shouldn't need an account... not if memory serves correctly.

I highly recommend Zack De La Rocha Network and Tom Morello Project for the ratm/tom fans out there. Awesome sites, with some really cool peopel. I'm on the ZDLR as "RunninFree"...

...I'M RUNNIN FREE YEAH! OH I'M RUNNIN FREE!

I thought it was awesome hearing Rage close out both Matrix films. I only wish the third movie used one. I think Born as Ghosts or even Bulls on Parade would've been perfect for the end of Revolutions.

Violent_Bill 08-18-2005 01:02 AM

Revolutions had shit all good music. I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT IT WAS SUCH A CRAP MOVIE!

I posted that a while back.

ManicMusician 08-20-2005 06:47 AM

I only have self-titled, EE and The live album from the Grand Olympic stadium , all of which I love. I wouldnt compare R.A.T.M to any other band (yes including Audioslave who im a big fan of :p )
I was considering pickin up another album, ive head the battle for Los Angeles is good? Any Recomendations?
P.S Morello is amazing

Apocalyptic Raids 08-20-2005 06:53 AM

Get The Battle Of Los Angeles. Most consider BOLA to be second only to the self titled (i prefer EE to BOLA personally). Renegades is good, but is only a covers album and is probably their weakest release.

Both are worth getting though.

Shaft! 08-20-2005 07:16 AM

I agree with Apocalyptic Raids. BOLA is their last album of 100% original material. Renegades is excellent, however, if you want to listen to them cover their influences. I'll just say that their cover of "The Ghost of Tom Joad" is nothing like the original, but it's just as awesome.
I also like their covers of "Renegades of Funk", "In My Eyes", and "Beautiful World". "Beautiful World" will have you sort of ask yourself "This is Rage?!" It's an excellent Devo cover. :)
I'm sort of disappointed. I looked at the bass tabs for R.A.T.M. and they had the theme for Generation X listed as a song by Rage. One person claimed that they had seen a video of Rage performing it live in the ring, but I'm almost positive they were talking crap.

They had nothing to do with that song. Tom Morello said it himself.

ManicMusician 08-21-2005 05:07 AM

Just listened to the cover of "Renegades of Funk"
Wow...i love it

Kyle 08-21-2005 05:21 AM

they did preform the song in a wrestling ring, I've seen it.

As have I, though was about 6 -7 years ago i think..

DuncMaster 08-21-2005 06:09 AM

Really? Holy ****. Tom or someone said in the massive Official Rage FAQ, they had nothing to do with it.

TheMachineRagesOn 08-21-2005 06:14 AM

prolly, nothing to do with the actual song/songwriting maybe, im not sure was definately them tho, man thats taken me back some years..

Kyle 08-21-2005 08:22 AM
prolly, nothing to do with the actual song/songwriting maybe, im not sure was definately them tho, man thats taken me back some years..
