ok, im going to buy one from melbourne, blackwater park looks good.
I got mine from smoke dreams on flinders street but of course thats closed up shop now. Im pretty sure you can order from Metal Mayhem. Its worth going up to Heartland near the Vic Markets too they sometimes have opeth shirts and they have so much rare vinyl and metal cds its well worth checking out :thumb: |
i meant order one from melbourne lol but yeah thanks
|
/is very angry with polls
I hope you guys have all voted. GO OPETH |
I voted BWP. Seems like in all these polls they come so close but never win.
|
ive never really been an Opeth fan, i liked a couple of songs i heard. But a couple days ago i picked up Blackwater Park and was so surprised by the talent of this band. Now i'm obbsessed with this album. Once i get more money im definetly picking up some more
thanks guys for getting me informed about Opeth :D |
My Blackwater Park review didn't make it onto the new CD Reviews site.
|
I've been getting into Opeth for a while now. I liked them before, but I fell completely in love with them after seeing my friends Lamentations DVD recently. Ordered Blackwater Park and Morningrise off the internet, I already have Orchid, and soon will get ****ation and Deliverance.
|
I will try...I live in Arkansas, its hard to get close to anywhere where PT would play. I think their new album comes out in March? So, I'm hoping Opeth tours with them, like they did for In Absentia.
March 21st :D . PT are definatly my favorite band, followed close by Opeth. I REALLY hope they tour together this year. Yes, Mike does do a guitar part for the new PT album |

Just re-post it, that's what they advised anyone who's review didn't get copied over to do. :thumb: |
i like Opeth, BWP is a good album.

Still the only Opeth album I don't own... :upset: |
Still Life is the only Opeth I still own...
(My car was stolen with most of my cds in it) |
that sucks cardboard, u insured?
|
That's why I only take about 5 CD's into my car at a time. Just finished learning how to play most of Bleak on my guitar, I'm pretty pumped about that. Certainly needs lots of fine tuning but I have the main body of it down.
|
There are like 4-5 different guitar tracks in this song. I'm in a Opeth cover band and we play Bleak, very cool to play but somtimes I think it fails to deliver (think about that beautiful bass driven riff shortly after the acoustic break).

Yeah, its kinda hard playing it as a single guitarist. I just do my best to kind of blend the parts together. But its a bit impossible at some points so a lot of times its just one part. |

Aye awesome man! What other songs do you guys cover? |
Ok, well since we're on the subject of covering Opeth, the band I'm putting together at San Francisco State is most likely going to cover When. Oh man, I can't wait to sing the end of that infront of an audience, it's fun enough just singing it to myself.
|
love the beginning growl in when, it really is surprising for first time listeners of the song

That would be so mean if you can hit the vocals perfectly. |
im rather good at singing soft opeth such as credence, to bid you farewell, windowpane etc but i find by growls to be too raspy and sound like a coughing whisper
|
yeah, i can't growl for nuts,
back:) |
yeah, i can't growl for nuts,
back:)
Either can I...yet Welcome back  |
Ha, am I the only one in this thread that can growl?
I feel so alone, a growling American adrift in a sea of rasping Aussies. |
I can to an extent, in fact, maybe good enough to be an Opeth cover band singer. I'm no Mike though.
|
I'm a growler but not amazing or anything.
|
im not good at growling, but i pull a pretty good soft mike voice, ive recorded a few opeth cover songs
|
Opeth_oasis
could you put some of you recordings in the audio area? I'm curious |
umm i dont have them on my computer atm but ill see what i can do
|
alright
thanks in advance :thumb: |

Our current set consists of : Bleak The Drappery Falls Hope Leaves Windowpane Serenity Painted Death Demon of the Fall To Bid You Farewell Up next are : Master's Apprentice A Fair Judgement Moonlapse Vertigo Of those I think Windowpane is the hardest to play (I play lead guitar). I suck at finger picking. The interlude before de clean solo in bleak is quite hard to. Our singer can growl quite good, but he is better at singing. |

And I can't sing very well at all :( |

Me, I can't growl very well. I'm better at doing Mike's older growling. And I can't sing very well at all :(
There is a difference between the old and new growl? I always thought it was just better recording. Serenity Painted death owns :thumb: White face, haggard grin! This serenity painted death! I love that part :D |

Serenity Painted death owns :thumb: White face, haggard grin! This serenity painted death! I love that part :D
There is a difference. Mike has been the model of constant vocal improvement as time goes on. Hell, if the music in Morningrise wasn't so beautiful, I'd say that it was a pretty amateur album. Mikael's earlier growls were raspier, and more high-pitched. They were growls more suited to fast, high-speed death metal rather than the slow progressive, melodic black metal they were playing. By Still Life, however, everything just became head and shoulders above what came before it. This is why I think Steven Wilson is the best thing that ever happened to the group. |

I guess you are right. But Morningrise is my favorite Opeth album. |
He certainly has improved over the years, both in growling and singing. Of course, the better production helps a lot, but I think he puts a lot more intensity and emotion in his growls now. Listen to Blackwater Park (the song), he's frightening.

I agree whole-heartedly. And to clayman, Morningrise is excellent, believe me: I love that album too. I am not a fan of the production, the drummer, or the vocals. The entire reason to get it for me is for the heavenly guitar and basswork. I love the album a ton even so. But Still Life I just can't praise enough. |
I haven't seen this posted in here so far, and the search function isn't working, so if you've already seen it I apologise.
From www.opeth.com: "Opeth will be entering Fashination street studios on March 15 to record their 8th yet untitled opus. The band are currently in rehearsal mode, which is a rare occasion having recorded the last 4 records without rehearsing. The recording will be overseen by the uprising recording mogul Jens Bogren. As of today no names for production duties have surfaced and it looks like the next record will be a band produced effort. Nothing has been decided regarding who's taking care of the mix either so we'll have to keep you wondering. Opeth and their management have spent the last month meeting the 5 top label candidates for the next Opeth recording contract. The names are still secret but a decision will be made very soon and obviously announced here earlier than anywhere else. Several Summer festival appearances have been confirmed and will be posted here soon. A Summer tour of the US has also been confirmed and will be posted here soon as well. The matters are still very "hush, hush" so we can't say anything more at this point. What can be said is that the band will make a few low-profile apperances prior to the next release and several full blown headline tours all over the world after the release. Take your rest now!" This is good news. |
