Yes we do, and I haven't even fully searched the shelves yet.

Ooh, so that's where your name came from. :awe:

Tangy zizzle 10-23-2004 07:47 PM

Hahah, indeed.

Iai 10-23-2004 08:26 PM
X-Japan? Never heard of them. What are they like?
Japan's biggest selling hard rock/metal act ever. They've got elements of power, speed, neo-classical (real classical, not Yngwie shit) and prog in their sound too. The faster tracks are really anthemic, the slower ones really emotional and epic. Really addictive stuff.

Art Of Life is over 29 minutes long, and it's an absolute masterpiece. All in English, too. Piano solo takes a little getting used to though.

Tangy zizzle 10-23-2004 08:31 PM

You said Power Metal... those words make me soft.

Well_Respected_Man 10-23-2004 08:36 PM

I'm back the Beach Boys again. Wild Honey and Smiley Smile are really cool.

Iai 10-23-2004 08:38 PM
You said Power Metal... those words make me soft.
I say Power Metal because they're very melodic, accessible, and have a cult-hero lead guitarist. They don't sing about dragons. As far as I can tell, anyway, I don't speak Japanese.

Ornery Cephalopod 10-23-2004 09:16 PM

Don't listen to this buffoon, X-Japan isn't worth your time man.

J-rock (and J-metal)... Ugh.

DISCLAIMER: The "Ugh." expressed above doesn't apply to cool groups like Sigh or Melt Banana. Rock/metal from Japan doesn't automatically = J-rock/metal.

Happymeal 10-23-2004 09:52 PM

^You two are as elitist as ever I notice.

What about Utada Hikaru? Nyahaha

Ornery Cephalopod 10-23-2004 09:55 PM

I put on a tough exterior, but I'm a softy at heart.

Tangy zizzle 10-23-2004 10:16 PM

Was he talkin' 'bout me aswell?

Deathapalooza04 10-24-2004 12:26 AM

I've been listening to Aphex Twin-26 mixes for cash (wierd, but in a good way) and Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains (still have not decided if its better than primus).

Tomahawk 10-24-2004 12:40 AM
Kyuss - ..And the Circus Leaves Town
Is that CD any good? Because I can get it for pretty cheap here.

Tangy zizzle 10-24-2004 01:29 AM

Aphex Twins creates some very bizarre music, but in the fuzzy artsy, listen to it with your girlfriend kind of music... I have also wonder which is better myself, but I have a soft spot for Primus, I kind of grew up listening to them, sooo... yeah, I think I Primus guy myself, but it's still claypool... the guy's never going to be boring, that's for sure

kirkrock85 10-24-2004 03:50 AM
 I like them, but at times when I try to analyze the music, I'll stop and think "What the hell am I listening to?"

That whole E6 label is just evil though... (even though I happen to really like most of the bands)

Anyway, lately the album I've been listening to the most is Dorothy Ashby's "afro Harping". I'm playing a song in jazz band that sounds similar to one of the songs, so listening to this album is such a great excuse of "mental practice".
I'm also fond of Netural Milk Hotel myself, I'm not sure why really... but, i just am... like, I'm not really all that into super heavy music, but I still listen to the blood brothers... it's strange really... then again though, i used to be a metalhead, i think i've still got the same funny bone

OrbDragon 10-24-2004 04:07 AM
Favourites at the moment;

Franz Ferdinand - Selft Titled
Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Like Bad News
DJ Shadow - Endtroducing
Minus The Bear - Highly Refined Pirates
Q And Not U - No Kill No Beep Beep
It's refreshing to see someone else mention minusthebear and q and not u.... they're amazing. The new Modest Mouse is the best thing i've heard in some time as well...

kirkrock85 10-24-2004 04:09 PM

I another couple bands I've really been into lately has been Bright Eyes, i'm really getting in to Grey AM and Joy Division, Juliana Theory is pretty good too... also LAX, they're a rather obscure band for the late 70's and early 80's, it's new wave and they did a song called "Ronnie's Song"... obviously about President Reagan. I've been trying to find albums and I've had no luck, I heard they're all out of print... Anyone know where I could maybe find some LAX albums?

Deathapalooza04 10-24-2004 04:11 PM

Hmm, the new Modest Mouse did nothing for me. I like the music, but the singer...he's too modest and he sounds like a mouse.

kirkrock85 10-24-2004 04:13 PM

oh crap... I almost forgot... any of ya guys heard of cursive and/or murder by death (aka Little Joe Gould)... they're both incredibly amazing.... anything you can find of either one of these bands I highly recommend!

Deathapalooza04 10-24-2004 04:17 PM

cursive is allright.

kirkrock85 10-24-2004 04:20 PM

How do ya guys feel about the Secret Machines? I think the new album is very powerful, I really dig it. It's very Floyd-like or something that the effect.

shane italian 10-24-2004 04:53 PM

I really enjoy Cursive. My sister and I share their albums like a team.

Iai 10-24-2004 05:06 PM

Anyone else caught on to The Honeymoon yet? They're great.

Zappa 10-24-2004 05:17 PM

Minus The Bear is good, but you can have too much. I can't listen to the entire album, just a few tracks, too many of them sound too similar.

Tangy zizzle 10-24-2004 05:38 PM

No.

Descripton puhlease.

Edit: to Iai's post.

Interstate 10-24-2004 05:38 PM

Refl 10-25-2004 03:31 AM

Lots of Bloc Party, great band and they were damn good live. The lead singer/guitarist Kele has real star quality goin for him.

Little Man being Erased 10-25-2004 06:06 AM

I'm massively digging Nick Drake at the moment. Pink Moon is so great. So short but so great.
