I cant deside who is my favourite guitarist in Maiden, but here is what I think:
I love the songs that Adrian writes, they are so perfectly thought out!!!! I also Love his Solos becouse they are not just pure showof but they realy fitt the song...... and his wha wha solos!!!!! :naughty: Gers on the other hand is mostly a Great riff writer!! he also plays Great solos but I think that he is my favourite becouse he is shuch a great showman  and I love his personality!!!! and I look a little like him :naughty: Now then Davey: A GREAT Guitar Player!!!!how is it posible to improvise that kin fast man!!! :amaze: he also writes good song when ever he does so!!!! well that is all i can think of now so!!!! Maiden!!!!!! |
Adrian Smith hands down.
Not just due to his leads, but his songwriting is much stronger than Davey and Janicks. |
Adrian Smith. He's my favourite. I don't even know why :)
maybe because he is the most melodic in the band. and his solos fit songs perfectly. does anyone know which solos on Dance of Death belong to Adrian? it seems to me as if he wrote all the solos on DOD :) |
I dont know.... i will say Dave Murray, cause he have never left Iron Maiden, and he's an great guitarist...
Now, The real question is: Who is Iron Maidens Best Bassist?! :D |
I like Dave and Adrian equally. They both have a helluvalot more soul beihnd their playing than Janick does. As for the best song, Aces High. Now their best bassist? I dunno could it be Steve Harris? But that's a trick question because he's the bestest bassist ever.
|
Yes, Steve is the best, hands down
|
Dave plays more solos, I believe, but Adrian writes more songs. Good combination.
|
^^^
just because he has been in the band the longest, but overall id say Adrian / Janick play just as many on the albums as Davey does. On tour it matters what songs are played, like on the "somewhere on tour" dvd Davey only plays a few leads because alot of the songs they picked are mainly ones Adrian plays leads on, and on Rock in Rio Davey plays the majority of the leads...all a matter of whats picked. But i like Adrian's style of playing, and songwriting more than any other guitarist in the band. IMO hes the strongest asset to Iron Maiden save Steve and Bruce. |
Meh, as a bassist I'm not very concerned with the guitarists when they're not soloing...
|
ok... who else loves steve harris?
|
you have no idea how much i love Steve Harris lol
|
you cant't not like Steve, but for some reason his bass lines started to get a lot more simplified over time, I mean look at the stuff off of Killers then the stuff of Somwhere In Time I'm a bassist though and I love the guitar haromies that Maiden have, it is pleasure for the ears.

the bass licks on Somewhere in Time are every bit are rough to play as the ones on Killers, he gets much more brutal triplets on caught somewhere in time than he did on any Killer's tracks, and how he follows the guitars on the lonliness of hte long distance runner is wonderful. i dont know what the hell your talking about, this comming from a bassiest of many years. Even his bass lines on Brave New World are fantastic, speed isnt everything nor is how many notes he can hit when doing a fill, its how well his bass lines fit the song and Steve continues to do that no matter how Maiden evolve. |
The Dance of Death bass is nice :)
|

What i meant was that Dave have always been with Maiden. (i think he quited for like... a month back in 1979... :p ) |

They have to fit the songs... He usually writes them..... so realy its the guitars fitting the bass :p |
i like Steve. but i think the sound of his bass is too loud. it hurts my ears :) (SaRcaSM)
|
Ah... im afraid of buying any Blaze album of the net, becouse i could aswell get an album from some 'kin rapper...

EXACTLY!!! like they describe his sound as "a lead bass" , judging that Steve writes the largest majority of the material the guitars are normally written after the bass lines. but in cases like "wasted years" or "sea of madness" where Adrian wrote the whole song, it leaves Steve room to roam with his bass and thow in fills where necessary...which is the part of his playing i like. |

He also did that in "2 Minutes to Midnight," a Smith/Dickinson song. That little fill before the pre-chorus is fun to play. |
^^^
aww yes i know that fill. Thats what remarkable about Iron Maiden...no matter who writes the songs in the band, it always sounds like Iron Maiden :) |
^^Has anybody seen the Adrian Smith guitar world interview? He say's pretty much just that, that Maiden's sound is classic and you can't **** with it.

Pretty much the same steve harris have said a couple of times.... |
yep, and now I've said it. BUMPAGE!

I think Davey is the best guitarists in Iron Maiden.
Not for being the best songwriting guitarist, but as a guitarist he leaves the other two in his wake. His solos are far more fluid than Adrians or Janicks, he can rip without it sounding like he's even trying and he knows when to play the melody. I just like his style more than the other two. As far as songwriting goes Adrian wins, and Janick wins the live show. |
i think murray is the best, simply because practically all his solos are improv, whereas smith sits down and writes em (according to the NOTB dvd, anyway). jannick's little marchy-type thing annoys me. i dunno. i think bruce is great live on RIR, going round on those zip-wire things. mmm - maideny

its funny how if your a diehard Iron Maiden fan you can pick out who's playing what lead.
Davey- legatto style, mainly hammer-on short scale runs. Adrian- alot of bluesly bends, speed picking, tapping, pull-offs, starts n stops in his leads, pinch harmonics. Janick- quick picking, sloppy speed leads. |
steve did slow down, but look at players like Flea and Tom Delonge (yes i like early "true punk" blink 182, when they were still just blink). when they slowed down their style, they achieved more success with normal people, because normal people don't care how cool the bass line is, or how complex thissolo is... they care about the SOUND. Look at B.B. King. I guarantee that man does not play one note more than he needs to.
|
Being 19 and writing the song "Iron Maiden" and beind almost 50 and writing "Paschendale"...i dont see a problem with Steve's speed. You cant blame the chap for playing slower at his age, though the live songs from their earlier years still have the speed of the olden days. As Bruce Bruce used to say " 8 fingers on the bass...Mr.Steve Harris".
