I don't own any vinyl... my dad's collection was all lost in 1991, when our house burned down.
|
I bought the dvd: "Making the DSOTM" or something like that i strictly recommend it nice dvd
|
I just got 4 new (used) original vinyls: Dsotm again (want a back up), Meddle, The Wall, Atom Heart Mother. Total 40 USD.
|
That sucks. I found my mom's vinyl of DSotM at my grandmother's house, along with the rest of her vinyls. It's currently in a really cool album-holder thing that is kind of like a picture frame. I'm kind of half-working on making the third-floor storage room thingy my chill-spot, and I'm gonna hang it up with some posters I've got. She also had some other cool albums like ABB - Brothers And Sisters and a bunch of Deep Purple, but that's the only one I have right now. My dad also has an absolute buttload of vinyls getting dusty in a still-unpacked box in the garage from when he moved to Wilmington, but I don't know if he'd let me take them home with me. He's got a bunch of Yes, The Who, Dire Straits, Bruce Springsteen, and waaaay more. If you can imagine it, think of a stack of vinyls, then turn the stack on its side and cram them in a box. That's how many he has.

My Dad has a bunch (prolly somehwere around 300) but none of it is stuff I'm really intrested in. Last time I looked through them the only thing I rememberactually wanting was some rolling stones and some Zep. The rest was all Bob seger type stuff. Which is cool...but I want floyed sabbeth beatles Hendrix cream...stuff like that.
My moms dad has been collecting vinyl for 30 years. Every saturday he go's out garage selling and he usually brings back about 10 albums. So he has quite a collection. I'm waiting for him to die so I can inherit it. |
I listened to WYWH today for the first time in a while. It's really something.

Indeed...I almost bought the other cover edition today... |
WYWH has been atop my favorite list for almost a year now.
My vinyl collection is pathetically small, I just started collecting like a month ago. My dad has somewhere around 300, which I'll probably be getting someday. |

I bought Out of the Blue on vinyl in great condition for 2 dollars. |
Pink Floyd is one of the best bands ever to come on the face of this planet, my favorite song is either echoes or time/money, all of them are great though, and I saw the live 8 concert dvd and they were great, and reunited at last. all in all, excellent band

Where did you find that at? It's very rare for me to find any vinyl for under 10 bucks where I live. I need to go to a flea market or something. |

The sleeve, there are 2 different editions. |
I don't even have a vinyl playing contraption set up in my house.
It's in the loft. |
I'm thinking about getting into vinyl, but I have no idea where to start. Any advice?

eBay. Seriously. Good amount of vinyls on there. But if you have flea markets and garage sales in your area, try checking there. I don't collect, but I might start sometime. I keep putting vinyls on eBay on my watcchlist then never bid on them :-/ |
Go Garage selling.
what about used book stores? they don't have any vinyl?
I go yard selling quite a bit and rarely see any. I've gotten most of mine at a used book/cd/record store, but they're terribly expensive. I'm just going to start using eBay. So, do you think it would be possible to even remotely capture Gilmour's tone with an Ibanez? |

Thrift store. Absolute goldmine. We found a copy of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in good condition there, too. Mine came in a little plastic vinyl sleeve. :) |

Anyone who says vinyl is hard to find isn't looking hard enough. Go to pawn shops, second hand book stores, collectables stores...I could probably name about 15 places I visit regularly for vinyl within a 20 minute drive from my house. Not to mention all the garage sales and stuff. There is a few main stores in my city that sell vinyl, but they sell albums like DSOTM for about 50 bucks, which is just plain lame. I bought both of my DSOTM copies for a buck each.
You could probably get a nice Hey You type tone with an Ibanez and the right settings. I wouldn't worry so much about the pickups, assuming they are at least half decent. I use an Epi BB3 and a DSL100 and I can get the tone pretty spot on for solos like Time...but honestly, it's probably about 80% more important how well you play the song. Gilmour's slides/bends/vibratos etc are always harder to copy than his actual tone is. |
My town has maybe 3 pawn shops, 2 secondhand book stores, 7 thrift stores, and very few garage sales that you can find out about. Also, chances of one of these places have a good vinyl copy of an album I want is miniscule. |

But it's just gonna be one of those things you stumble onto after looking for a couple months...and who know's what else you will find. I got all my Iron Maiden when I was looking for Hendrix |

Well, I'm looking to pick one up sometime next week, I haven't made up my mind on exactly what to get yet though. I've been through 3 acoustics, so my knowledge of electrics doesn't go very far. |

Not to rag on you or anything, but that phrase was pretty funny. (cause if you have to look hard, that means vinyls are hard to find) |
i have DSOTM, WYWH, and animals...
