Forward to Death is officially my favorite DK song now.
|
I got the FFFRV remaster/DVD for christmas and today I watched the DVD. It was ridiculously short and only talked about DK in there FFFRV times and I was expecting alot more. Other than that it was great. Really good live footage and good talks with Klaus and Ray even though Ray seems like an idiot.
Also, I was bummed they didn't talk to Jello. I hate that he pretty much stays out of any business that involves DK now. Really dissapointing. |

Yeah Jello's being a real asshole.
EDIT: OMGZZ new filter!! |
It's more that he is still pretty upset at the band for the suit and is just holding to his beliefs that he was right. A bit stubborn, but he has reasons for why he is avoding them.
And if it was just about FFFRV, then interviewing DH would be pointless, as he didn't join that band until PSD. |
Yeah I know what you mean but still....
|
Yeah Jello's being a real spatula.

NoMeansNo's cover is grand. The Frankenchrist LP ended up going for $21.50. I'll find out tomorrow if I win the IGWTI one. And the Klaus didn't sell. |
I had a dream and at one point I turned on the tv and a band that looked like Slipknot or some s'hit nu-matal band that wore masks was playing Too Drunk To F'uck, but oddly enough Jello was still singing it. Ghey.
And why was Pull My Strings never studio recorded? Its awesome. |
Good question, maybe because they totally ripped 'my sherola' in it? it was such a killer song, I wished they did it in the studio. The Geetar solo is cool.
|
I think it's better live because of the whole they start playing Uber Alles then Jello stops them, proclaims they for adults now, then jump into Pull my Strings, so it's better live.
In other news, I won the In God We Trust Inc vinyl for $9.50 on ebay. I'll be bidding on the Tumor Circus more then likely, and as long as the Skateboard Party doesn't go up too high, that too. |
Whats the deal with Jello being mad at DK? I've never heard the whole story.
|
He went to sleep in the van once in 1986 and Ray put his dick in his mouth, Klaus took a picture and DH had it blown up and projected onto the GOlden Gate Bridge. Jello was not happy.
True story. |
Whats the deal with Jello being mad at DK? I've never heard the whole story.
This is what I remember, you can find both sides online. deadkennedys.com has the band's point of view. When the band broke up, they went their seperate ways and such, but were still friends. But Ray and the rest of the band supposdly tried to sell Holliday in Cambodia to Levi's for a commercial, and Jello wouldn't allow it, and since it was on his label, he supposdly had more control over the songs. The band then accused Jello of hording royalities and they went to court over it. The trial lasted until last year when Jello just got fed up with it and ended the case, paying back whatever they said he owed them. During this time the rest of DK tried to set up reunion tours for different causes and tried to get Jello to come back, but of course he wouldn't. |
Are Dead Kennedys minus Jello touring, or anything? I can't imagine it would be the same without him, but i'd love to see them.
|
Yeah, they had a couple different singers I think. The one now is named Penalty I believe.

Somewhat. There is tourdates on deadkennedys.com and I think lynch_me saw them once. They tour with Jeff Penalty on vocals now. |
I listened to DK for the first time in a while today, even though it was only one song: Forest Fire. It came up on random on my mp3 player. It is such an amazing song.

DK video.
Ahaha Jello's crazy..There's also this one on Video Google where he's doing Cal. Uber Alles and the cord pops out of his mic and he's still singing. What's with the green glove that he has though?
Are Dead Kennedys minus Jello touring, or anything? Nick do you have or have you seen any of the DVDs? Are they worth buying?
Also, do you know what's up with Jello's gloves? I've seen him wear green, blue and purple but all the same kind of stretchy, rubbery kinda weird stuff. |

DMPOs on Broadway is a really fun live show, and I recommend it. In God We Trust Inc: The Lost Tapes is pretty interesting because you get to see the band record, but would've been better had you been able to hear what Ray and DH were saying (only Jello and Klaus had mics). I only saw half of the Early Years, so I can't say anything about that one. My favourite video of them is one not on DVD, but the Portland, Oregon show which was made famous by Night of the Living Rednecks. It's one of my favourite live shows of theirs, and of course Jello is fantastic. The gloves, I have no sure idea. Could be a parody of Michael Jackson. He is an acting student and he probably just enjoys them as props, because it makes his hands look weird and he can take them off and play with them and such. |

I've seen Klaus with gray hair, but he still looks silly with it. DH looked like a gangsta with his sleevless shirt and big muscle arms. And Ray was really really active on stage, which is odd because in all the old vids he barely is standing up while playing and I've even seen one vid where he just goes and sits in the back of the stage while he plays. Penalty was alright, really active on stage, but he's no Jello. Stage wise only, I won't judge his vocals, as no one can have the same vocals as Jello. |
guys, which issue if Guitar World MAgazine had the interview with East Bay Ray? He talks all about his gear but I can't find it that issue!
|
The gloves are just for fun i think,on broadway is great fun live dvd but the sound goes down during nazi punks, thats he only thing wrong with it.
|
is there a DK covers CD or a Tribute Cd? and do you rate it?
What was the Mr Bungle cover of Drug me released on? |
Yay for doing German homework and listening to FFRV and rocking in your bedroom

Hee hee One of the guys in the guitar forums scanned his issue of Guitar World (it was the January Issue and I missed it) of this article of East Bay Ray. It may not be interesting unless you play guitar and want his tone because, they just talk about their new disc . http://www3.telus.net/random/eatbayray.jpg Props to tomfoolery |
is there a DK covers CD or a Tribute Cd? and do you rate it?
What was the Mr Bungle cover of Drug me released on?
There was three actually. The Virus 100 tribute was a celebration of AT's 100th release, so they decided to tribute the band that created the label. This one has my favourite DK cover on it, NoMeansNo's cover of Forward to Death. It also has a really odd cover of Nazi Punks **** Off from Napalm Death and Sepultra's Drug Me The other is called What We're We Fighting For. I'm not sure who put it out, but it does have an Anal Cunt version of Religious Vomit which is funny. Other than that it's a bland tribute. The other is the strangest of all. It's called In Dub We Trust. It is a dub tribute to DK. But not the dub you associate with King Tubby, but a more electronica version. Some of the songs are really interesting and really well done. And in other news, I ended up not getting anymore vinyl. The Tumor Circus one had 1 bid and the guy's maximum must've been over my limit, which was $10 on that release. And it ended up selling for $20.50. |
The dub thing was ridiculously stupid.
