My favorite song is either Camera Eye, Spirit of the Radio, or Distant Early Warning.

Album? Maybe Permanent Waves.

thunderzstruck 10-03-2005 07:46 PM

sorry I havn't posted here in a while. (internet is down, probably won't be back up until tomorrow at best)

Camera Eye is a really good song too

Huber 10-03-2005 08:02 PM

Favorites have to be 2112, Spirit of the Radio, and YYZ. I could list so many more though.

Album? Ouch. 2112 or Moving Pictures? I can't decide.

Maggot Dream 10-03-2005 09:26 PM

Favorites for me are 2112, La Villa Strangiato, and maybe YYZ.

Album is either Hemispheres or 2112.

Jacaranda 10-03-2005 09:28 PM

2112 all the way. Nothing in my opinion even comes close, although alot of their other stuff is great 2112 is a masterpiece.

BludgeonySteve 10-03-2005 09:50 PM

A Farewell To Kings. I mean cmon. (then again Moving Pictures and 2112 come close)

JESUS'S BASSMAN 10-03-2005 10:00 PM

FLY BY NIGHT
It was the first album with Peart on drums. You can see the transformation begin from a common rock band to the RUSH we all know and love. It was also the first Rush concert I went to. :thumb:

As for my favorite Rush song? How can you pick just one? Red Barchetta, Fly By Night, In the End, By-Tor and the Snow Dog. And I haven't even scratched the surface. Rush hasn't done a song I DON'T like. :D

ChrisD 10-03-2005 10:01 PM

Rush is brilliant.Definitely one of my favourite bands.
"Hemispheres" is a great album as is "Permanent Waves".
As for the Bill Bruford commemt, he is alot better than Neil at playing ,say Jazz, but aside from a few Crimson tunes Neil kills him at technicality hands down. This coming from studying both bands drum parts.Bruford does have better feel however.

It's a great album, but I don't like the music as much as some others of theirs.

I think Fly By Night was written in large part to amaze (drum-wise). Take for example, By-Tor and the Snow Dog. Great song, amazing drumming. One of Peart's best.

It was their first step to developing their niche. NOBODY does the style of songwriting that they do. Sort of Sci-Fi Rock if you will.

thunderzstruck 10-04-2005 01:34 PM

I can't decide.. between Hemispheres or 2112. It depends on what mood I'm in really. Since Hemispheres is VeRY proggy with the 10+ min songs and such while 2112 is more straightforward rock..

One of those two is my favorite.

EDIT: ok, I'm listening to Hemispheres right now.. this is my fav album I
m pretty sure.. yep it is!

Also, I never knew Exit.. Stage Left was a live album. When was it recorded? Any good?

Hep Kat 10-04-2005 02:40 PM

my favorite is freewill by far my favorite album is 2112

Ray Zero 10-04-2005 04:13 PM

Rush... Is my brother's favourite band. Definately one of my favourites, too. I'd say that Bravado is my favourite song ever. That's despite power metal being my favourite genre, mind you.

Other songs that I really like by Rush are Dreamline, Distant Early Warning, Marathon, and Sweet Miracle.

Son of the Bunt 10-04-2005 04:18 PM

I downloaded their version of Summertime Blues (originally by Eddie Cochran, but The Who covered it excellently), and I liked it. I like The Who's version better, but Rush's is cool too. I'm also a huge Who fan, and I got into them much earlier than I did Rush.

BludgeonySteve 10-04-2005 10:46 PM

I like Rush's twist on it. Every other version sounds messy and sloppy but the Rush one is very tight sounding.

Artemician 10-05-2005 10:40 AM

I've already said that my favorite Rush song is the live version of Natural Science. As for favorite album... well, keeping in mind that I only have 2112, Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures (not counting Rush in Rio) then I'd have to say Permanent Waves.

Xanadu 10-05-2005 08:06 PM

ive been listining to alot of "The Enemy Within"

I've never heard Permanent Waves, I'll have to give it a listen.

I don't think it's that fantastic of an album, but it has an awesome cover, plus it has Spirit of Radio and Natural Science. I have it on LP and it gets stuck in the middle of Jacob's Ladder :(

BludgeonySteve 10-06-2005 06:46 PM

It's a great album. Although it's more comerical and less 2112, Kings, Moving Pictures-ish.

Jude 10-06-2005 07:36 PM

Would anyone like to YSI/AIM trade some Rush albums? I only have Moving Pictures, Caress of Steel and Vapor Trails, and a collection of random DLed songs but I want albums.

Email is Mistergroovy1023@gmail.com. AIM is MisterGroovy1023. I have plenty of other great stuff to trade.

FlamingCouch 10-06-2005 07:46 PM

My favorite albums are Moving Pictures and Signals.

BludgeonySteve 10-07-2005 08:55 PM

I think most people's favorite is Moving Pictures. There's not a bad song on it.

rockinbass17 10-07-2005 09:27 PM

Ehh, I'm not too fond of Witch Hunt.
But the rest of that album is very good, though.

Maggot Dream 10-07-2005 11:43 PM
Ehh, I'm not too fond of Witch Hunt.

I agree, Witch Hunt is probably the weakest song on the album.

But then, Tom Sawyer and YYZ more than make up for it.

rockinbass17 10-08-2005 10:57 AM

Definetly. The whole rest of the album makes up for it. If it weren't for that one song I think it would be the perfect album.

Pretty much, yeah. Plus it's the end of Rush's epic songs, which is a shame.

Yeah, that's always been my favorite thing about Rush, at least song-wise. Band member-wise, you just can't beat Neil.
